Standard post-debate caveats: "Winning" a primary debate is a tricky question and it's not a zero-sum game like a general election debate - more than one person can "win" in the sense of doing what they need to do to help their campaign gain some traction.

But taking into account home runs hit, errors, and general meh, who do you think comes out of this debate most ahead of where they went in?  Is it the person you supported going in?  Did you actually change your candidate preference due to this debate, do you think your candidate won, or are you sticking with your candidate while thinking someone else did better?  A poll can't capture all of that, so just let us know who you thought won, but talk about the other stuff (and whatever else you want) in the comments.

Character questions. Hillary, are you too secretive?

Surprisingly, Hillary does not feel she is too secretive. Has learned lessons from problems with that in the past, and will be open compared to Bush.

Question to Biden about race gaffes.

Biden says has whole career to lean on, overwhelming vote of minorities in home state. Phrased things wrong. Indian immigrants building families. Point about inner-city Washington is something Barack said. Barack said it too, I was just too blunt. No one who knows me or has worked with me has ever wondered about my commitment to civil rights.

Everyone on stage claps for the answer, and Obama says has no doubt and will provide testimony that Biden is on right side on the issues.

Question to Edwards about whether he can accomplish anything after calling powerful people corrupt.

Answers that we need to take on the powerful to get anything done. Fought them in courtrooms and then in public life, and have been winning.

Question to Dodd about his father's censure in the Senate and is he motivated by it.

Motivated by family's commitment to public service. His father would have gone into public service again in a minute. Well-intentioned public servant can make difference in lives of millions.

Question to Richardson about lax security under him as Energy Secretary.

Have made lots of mistakes in decades in public service. Glad you didn't raise all my gaffes. Things to regret, but stand behind record.

Question to Obama. Have some Bill Clinton foreign policy advisors on campaign, so how deliver change you promise?

Hillary laughs and says she wants to hear answer. Obama says he's looking forward to Hillary advising him as well.  Wants to gather talent from everywhere. Bush fed us fear and distorted foreign policy. Lots of policy-makers from past administrations who have something to add. Need respect restored in world and those Clinton advisors agree.

First one getting crowded.

Will good energy policy be too expensive?

Basically, first couple answers argue for importance of good energy policy and don't so much bite on the bait of it being a sacrifice, then Clinton talks more directly about cushioning costs and the need to enlist American people to contribute to an effort. This effort can lift us up as a country. Obama sees it as a moral imperative, and yes, there may be some initial increases in prices, but then innovation will take hold. Repeats how you can't just say it to the Sierra Club, and has he mentioned how he said it to the automakers in Detroit? And they didn't clap? Edwards: entrenched interests stand in the way of progress, need a president who asks us to be patriotic about something other than war. We have a responsibility to future generations.

Clinton asks if moderator wants them to raise their hands on global warming as she did Republicans. Makes point that all the Democrats believe in global warming.

The lighting on Obama is terrible. I don't know what they're doing to him.

First question: Budget and deficit?

Obama says we will not be able to dig our way out of the budget deficit immediately, but not spending $10-12 million a month on Iraq would help, among other things. Richardson would balance the budget and wants a line-item veto. Biden says it's a false choice, that a good sense of priorities would enable to cut bloated spending and still do good things. Dodd lets Richardson know the federal budget is different from a state budget. But growth and getting out of Iraq would do a lot. According to Edwards, getting corporations out of the government and reducing inequality would do it.  Finally, Clinton reminds us that under Bill Clinton, things were ok in this area and would be with her.

What about tax increases? When are they appropriate?

Richardson, amazingly, does not start off with his "I'm a Democrat who has cut taxes" line, and focuses on middle class, then the money being spent on Iraq.  Use the tax structure to incentivize the economy. Edwards again hits the populist angle, pointing to rising corporate profits and struggling middle-class people. Clinton thinks it's important to recognize how people are having trouble, and that we can get back to how it was in the 1990s.

As in previous Democratic debates, I have in mind some questions that probably nobody will ask. Here are three of them. Some of the candidates have already answered one or more of these questions:

Will you seek to repeal the Patriot Act or any of its provisions? Which provisions?

Will you shut down any of the more than 725 military bases the United States has operating in 35 countries around the world?

Will you reopen the investigation of 9/11 to look at issues that the previous investigations have glossed or slopped over?
