about me
I am currently living in Oman, but am Australian with an Italian heritage. it confuses the Omani and other Arab people I meet, especially when I'm in my bellydancing costume!
I have performed and taught Danse Orientale and other styles of bellydance for 14 years. Recently I have also achieved a gold medal in Latin American Dance, under the instruction of Rami Kaleef, Vogue Dance Studio, Melbourne. In 2004, I was invited to be a member of the Belyssa Academy of Danse Orientale accreditation panel to judge accreditiations of Melbourne teachers. As well as performing at various venues and functions, I have directed many shows and theatre productions both in collaboration with world music band AL JADIDA, and as Director of the dance group FIERY ANGELS. Credits include film and television: Sale of the Century (GTV 9), Red Light in Full Flight (SBS), Denise Show (7 network) and Ocean Girl (Jonathon Shift Productions), Jimmy Christo music video, and Rove Live (GTV 9); and festivals and shows: the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival, Moomba, Melbourne Fringe, Melbourne Arts Festival, the Lebanese Festival, Melbourne Middle Eastern Dance Festival, Apollo Bay Music Festival and Port Fairy Folk Music Festival.

Last week I attended the wedding of my colleague’s sister, Halouma (I have a day job). My colleague has been fantastic in acculturating my husband and I into Omani life, always happy to answer my questions about custom and culture, and always looking for the next wedding or cultural celebration she can invite me to.

Of course I am so new here that I am, I’m sure, blind to the nuances that would give me a better insight into how the gender relations are actually being conducted. It would be the ...
