My Blog
tag you're it!
If you've been tagged, you must write a blog entry with 8 somewhat unknown factoids/interesting things/habits about yourself and STATE who tagged you!****Karl tagged me!
Then choose 6 new people to be tagged and list their names. No tag backs.
1. I've had a full-time job since I was 12 years old. First job was a pre-school teachers aid at a Christian day care.
2. I have all but 1 flights to get my hang1 liscense...meaning I've flown solo in a hang-glider 19 times..
3. I have brown eyes, but 1/4 of my right eye is blue.
4. I was in a Miss Teen NJ pagent when I was 15.
5. I broke a rib one day while riding on my boyfriends mountain bike...he was driving, I was on the handle-bars....and he went down a "hill" that was really a cliff...I landed on a huge rock 20ft down, the bike landed on me, then he landed on the bike...ouch! We had to mountain bike out of the park like that....lesson learned, never mountain bike on the handle-bars of your boyfriends bike.
6. I am currently in training to be a yoga teach in my free time. Baron Baptist style.
7. Mushrooms horrify me.
8. My first car was a 79 AMC Spirit that had curodroy pasley interior...I freakin loved that car.
I will tag Kari, JZ, Danny, Mike, Sean, Gabor.
my baby sis...
called me because she was upset...she's 13 keep in mind...a girl at her school that is somewhat of a friend got pissed today because of the way Kelly LOOKED at her....so I just let her talk and vent...she was mostly upset because she didn't even think she looked at the girl funny and could not get the girl to understand that she wasn't looking at her funny....so she says to me at the end of the conversation...
"you know Laura, you can't tell the intention of a look, no more then you can tell the tone of an email"
now...here I am blown away, because 1) she's my sis and that is my job 2) I just taught her last week what the word intention was and how powerful it can be and 3) because she totally is right...the way someone looks at you is just like the way someone types to you, you never know the true intension or emotion behind the look or typed words...
and if your a 13-year-old, it can lead to a girl-fight in the hallway and a detention...
the most beautiful song lyrics ever written :)
"Utopia"we'd gather around all in a room
fasten our belts engage in dialogue
we'd all slow down
rest without guilt
not lie without fear
disagree sans judgement
we would stay and respond and expand and include and allow and forgive and enjoy and evolve and discern and inquire and accept and admit and divulge and
open and reach out and speak up
This is utopia this is my utopia
This is my ideal my end in sight
Utopia this is my utopia
This is my nirvana
My ultimate
we'd open our arms we'd all jump in we'd all coast down into safety nets
we would share and listen and support and welcome
be propelled by passion not invest in outcomes
we would breathe and be charmed and amused by difference be gentle and make room for every emotion
we'd provide forums we'd all speak out we'd all be heard we'd all feel seen
we'd rise post-obstacle more defined more grateful
we would heal be humbled and be unstoppable
we'd hold close and let go and know when to do which we'd release and disarm and stand up and feel safe
This is utopia this is my utopia
This is my ideal my end in sight
Utopia this is my utopia
This is my nirvana
My ultimate
thank you ALANIS MORISSETTE....your song is perfection
Holiday Dieting Tips:
1. Avoid carrot sticks. Anyone who puts carrots on a holiday buffettable knows nothing of the Christmas spirit. In fact, if you see carrots,
leave immediately. Go next door, where they're serving rum balls.
2. Drink as much eggnog as you can. And quickly. Like fine single-malt
scotch, it's rare. In fact, it's even rarer than single-malt scotch.
You can't find it any other time of year but now. So drink up! Who cares
that it has 10,000 calories in every sip? It's not as if you're going
to turn into an eggnog-aholic or something. It's a treat. Enjoy it.
Have one for me. Have two. It's later than you think. It's Christmas!
3. If something comes with gravy, use it. That's the whole point of
gravy. Gravy does not stand alone. Pour it on. Make a volcano out of
your mashed potatoe! s. Fill it with gravy. Eat the volcano. Repeat.
4. As for mashed potatoes, always ask if they're made with skim milk or
whole milk. If it's skim, pass. Why bother? It's like buying a
sports car with an automatic transmission.
5. Do not have a snack before going to a party in an effort to control
your eating. The whole point of going to a Christmas party is to eat
other people's food for free. Lots of it. Hello?
6. Under no circumstances should you exercise between now and New
Year's. You can do that in January when you have nothing else to
do. This is the time for long naps, which you'll need after circling
the buffet table while carrying a 10-pound plate of food and that vat of
eggnog.
7. If you come across something really good at a buffet table, like
frosted Christmas cookies in the shape and size of Santa, position
yourself near them and don't budge. Have as many as you can before becoming the
center of attention. They're like a beautiful pair of shoes. If you
leave them behind, you're never going to see them again.
8. Same for pies. Apple. Pumpkin. Mincemeat. Have a slice of
each. Or, if you don't like mincemeat, have two apples and one
pumpkin. Always have three. When else do you get to have more than
one dessert? Labor Day?
9. Did someone mention fruitcake? Granted, it's loaded with the
mandatory celebratory calories, but avoid it at all cost. I mean, have some
standards.
10. One final tip: If you don't feel terrible when you leave the party
or get up from the table, you haven't been paying attention. Reread
tips; start over, but hurry. January is just around the corner.
If you can...
start the day without caffeine, resist complaining and boring people with your troubles,
eat the same food every day and be grateful for it,
understand when your loved ones are too busy to give you and time,
overlook it when something goes wrong though no fault of yours and those you love take it out on you,
take criticism and blame without resentment,
ignore a friend's limited education and never correct him,
resist treating a rich friend better then a poor friend,
face the world without lies and deceit,
conquer tension without medical help,
relax without liquor,
sleep without the aid of drugs,
say honestly that deep in your heart you have no prejudice against creed, color, religion or politics,
Then, my friends, you are almost as good as your dog :)
After A While...
After a while, you learn the subtle differenceBetween holding a hand and chaining a soul,
And you learn that love doesn't mean learning
And company doesn't mean security,
And you begin to learn that kisses aren't contracts
And presents aren't promises,
And you begin to accept your defeats
With your head up and your eyes open
With the grace of a woman, not the grief of a child,
And you learn to build all your roads on today
Because tomorrow's ground is too uncertain for plans
And futures have a way of falling down in mid-flight,
After a while, you learn...
That even the sunshine burns if you get too much
So you plant your own garden and decorate your own soul,
Instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers,
And you learn that you really can endure...
That you really are strong,
And you really do have worth.
And you learn and you learn...
With every goodbye you learn.
Veronica A Shoffstall-she wrote this, and I've had it up at my desk at work for over 8 years now! I still feel strong when I read it.

Vegas...
Every time I go there, thanks to my wonderful, amazing, beautiful friends...I come back in awe of what just happened...for example, Friday...I woke up next to a good friend ;) went to breakfast, soaked up the sun and played in the pool for about 4 hours...then this wonderful person surprised me with The Killers tickets at the Hard Rock that night...get dressed! (Will post pics of this night, for sure!)
We get to the Hard Rock, meet up with some more cool peeps that run a salon in the hotel (and their cute 6 month old daughter Berlin) and all of us head out to the concert (baby’s first concert!...don't worry, ear plugs were in, she slept the entire time in a papoose)....another surprise, these peeps know the band, I'm gona get to meet them after the show!
We rock out, party, drink, and end up at Simons (these people know the owner Kari or however you spell his name) and so we're in...He’s a great guy, but busy b/c Paris Hilton just happened to be hanging out, ran into her...and I don't care how many of you hate that girl, she's not bad...didn't give me any problems at all, kinda just bounced around the club and was having fun like the rest of us...
Ran into some other chick name Sonya (who claims to be Vegas's Carrie Bradshaw) and well, I can't really give too many detail...wish I could, its a freakin blur...I've never been caught up in so much so fast....
Next thing I know, we're outside, some more of my friends are meeting up with us, we go to a house party, its so cool to see all my friends...I'm lovin life!
Then, the same friend I woke up with, takes me back to the house, and we're up till noon Saturday partying way to hard, being oh so bad until we have to crash...slept so long, I missed my plane back home, and had to rebook my flight out for Sunday 6pm...Didn’t get home till 2am today...
Its ok though, Sunday we took the Harley out, watched football at the Harley bar on the strip, got tipsy, had a bit more fun b/f I got on my plane ;) and then, here I am today...somehow, wondering how time flys so fast when you are around great people, and great times....and why today is dragging....and I just want to go to sleep...
Jet lag sucks!
meditation
I am fully present in the place of mystery, where destiny and desire become one.I call upon this cleansing of pure energy for acceptance of what is constant, the rise and fall of all things.
I embrace reservation to limitation, recalling that it is heaven and earth manifesting...
and so it is.
Some fellow triber asked me today, why Biochem...
They titled their email as "Questioning my degree..."I just wanted to share the answer, b/c I get it all the time...its a good way to understand who I am, and what I really dig...
To understand life, its good to know why life works the way it does...random things don't happen to our bodies and our world...biology is the study of life down to the basic element of our cells, and the tiny parts that make up our cells...chemistry is the study of everything you see around us...down to the basic element of an atom and the parts of the atom.
Its like outer space inside the body, or inside the atoms that make up the keyboard I'm typing with...
I guess I do this to feel small/humble...life is so much more intricate then you can ever imagine when you understand the science behind it...something as simple and small as an amino acid (what your DNA codes for) can cause someone to get a sickness or genetic inferiority that sets them apart from another person...something as simple as an electron in an atom that is misplaced can result in a violent reaction in our world...
For me, knowing this stuff, puts everything into a different light...
Disease, chemical dependency/addiction, the way the body moves, nuclear weapons, pollution, even something as basic as what makes a man a man, and a woman a woman...fuck, EVERYTHING all comes down to a microscopic, subatomic world that most people don't realize exists...when you know it exists and understand its place in the world...somehow, for me anyway, it puts me in check and makes me thankful for what I have...It gives me peace of mind...and its amazing what you lose when you have peace of mind...
