So after much hatred of the whole shaving thing. I gave up on the mass produced 1/4 of a million blades per head vibrating motorized new greatest thing in shaving.

I bought an old style Merkur DE type razor. These are the type you used to see on your father or grandfathers sink. A single blade in a metal holder.

The shaver itself ran me about 50 bucks, by the time you add in a couple packs of blade and a blade safe <for the safe disposal of the used ones> it came up to somewhere around 60.

The first time I tried it I fully fucked myself up... blood everywhere. I found out the hard way to use one properly takes information and the right stuff.. So back to researching. It was well worth it. This morning after only about the 5th try not a speck of blood, no razor burn, not painful scraping of my rather thick beard. On balance not bad at all.

Huge advantages. After the initial outlay rather than 20.00 for 5 cartridges it is 6.00 for 10 double sides blades in essence 20 sides. I don't feel like my face has been scraped with a kitchen knife. I have to slow down and think about what I am doing <almost a zen component.> Finally I am not tied to the latest gimmicky piece of shit they want to sell me.
