About Me . . .

Location
about me
I found the SCA in 2004 by way of a Ren Faire experience. My interest in fencing led me to develop a late period Spanish persona. However, after going to a few camping events and joining in the bardic circles, I began to develop an alter ego. Spanish swordsman by day, Middle Eastern musician by night.

I am currently a complete beginner who can mimic basic rhythms and serve as a good "heartbeat" drummer alongside a more experienced lead drummer. My current drumming goal is to memorize what those basic rhythms actually are (baladi, etc.) and how to play them correctly. I also want to learn how to properly "fill" rhythms, improvise, and solo. I want to become proficient enough that I can someday serve as the lead drummer to a new crop of beginners. I believe the beautiful and talented dancers around our campfires deserve so much more than just one long and nauseatingly unchanging drone of imprecise "drunken drumming", which is what they all too often get.

I'm about 1/2 done with each of those and am learning a lot in the process. I'm starting to favor the duct tape method for a ... read more

I haven't been on "Tribe" in a long time. Life happens. My most recent thing is working on a new degree for a new future job (echocardiography). I'm hoping that will eventually give me the money and stability to eventually enjoy my hobbies in a more meaningful way. That basically means all the stuff I want to do in the SCA but have had to put on a back burner. Like: becoming a better drummer, learning a new melody instrument (violin maybe?), getting better at spanish classical guitar, g... read more
