This is my friend Emil's daughter. She is coming into the hoop right now and is totally adorable!

On World Hoop Day, she wore a beautiful bright cobalt blue, shiny, fringed outfit. When Emil told her they were going to celebrate hooping, she said "We can celebrate hooping!?" When he said yes, and was getting her ready, she explained that the outfit he had picked out was NOT a hooper outfit. She had to dress up to celebrate hooping!

It is so fascinating to watch the community evolve and for kids to grow up considering these rituals of dance, music and fun important holy days. What a revolution!

Scott &amp; I performed for the intermission at Roller Derby last night (6/7/08). This was my favorite of the three times I've hooped at Derby, despite the sauna temperatures. Having Scott there providing live rhythms helped ground and comfort me so much. In past shows, the music has felt so far away and bouncing all over the strangely shaped arena. I loved feeling the bass through my core in such a big venue.

I gotta give props to my girls on the Carolina Rollergirls team, specifically the Debutante Brawlers who kicked butt last night. I knew they were badass before, but last night they were skating hard in the 100 degree temps. I had planned to wear boots, but quickly nixed that and shifted to barefoot style when I realized there was no AC. Scott &amp; I were dripping with sweat even before we started.

Here's a link to video from last nights performance/jam. My girl, Holly Wanna Crackya, who has been my contact on the team and good friend for several years came out and jammed with me on her skates for the last bit. She has been hooping since the first Saxapahaw Hoop Crafting party and Jam 3 summers ago. This is the first time I've seen her rock the hoop on skates. Maybe by the end of the season, we'll have a troupe of girls out there rockin' hoops on skates! I haven't gotten to hoop on roller skates since the Saxapahaw disco basement parties:-)

This is from a show in Maryville, TN at "The Shed." A beautiful belly dancing friend, Jaia, invited me there to teach workshops and hooked us up with performances in the evenings. I was surprised to find "The Shed" was a venue attached to a Harley Davidson Shop. After I adjusted to the shift of my pre-conceived notions and concern over my pink sparkly outfit (wonderin' if leather would have been more appropriate?:-), I found the bikers to be one of the most hospitable and helpful group of folks I've ever worked with. They had an incredible indoor/outdoor venue for hosting live music events.

Scott played the balaphone, his most recent percussive love, for this performance. He also offered rhythmic accompaniment (Cajon, Djembe, Balaphone, Shakers, Whale, etc.) to Saturday's hoop workshop which brought a magically meditative tone to the experience. We're thrilled and grateful to be collaborating and nurturing our relationship in this way.

<div>I was looking through old photos and noticed this old one. I think I resonated with it today because it exemplifies the scope of my current project, Hoop Convergence, in its magnitude and a feeling of the delightful satisfaction that accompanies a difficult project. Although you can't see it, I have raked the front yard already (with Scott's help:-) I remember the excitement about taking on the huge side yard of our home, knowing that my arms and hands were going to be hella sore when I finished, but that it would be awesome anyways.

I am very thankful to all the assistance and support with Hoop Convergence ~ from Caroleeena, Ali, Revolva, Spiral, Greg (see the badass logo!) The culmination of this event is going to be SO MUCH cooler than a leafless yard!
