I lived in the same city for 24 years (Memphis) and once my goals were completed there I was gone! Off to CA, a place I had visited only a few times and I knew about 2 people that lived in all of Humboldt County. It was one of those things that I really didn't know what it would be like or if I would really like it but hey, you only live once and I try hard to live by that mantra. I had the opportunity and had just graduated with my b.s. in biology so when would there be a better time? Since then I have learned more about myself and the world around me than I learned in all my 24 years in the south. I have also learned that I am a wanderer by nature, except for the fact that I like some stability in my life, therefore I travel as much as possible. I can see myself moving throughout my life, maybe one day I will find a place that seems like "home" or maybe it will always be changing. I just know I am happy where I am now. I desperately want to go to a vet school, Davis is my preferred school, but have that total doubt in myself that I will get in. I even had good grades and wonderful references, but getting in is so competitive and I also think that sometimes it's easier to think you can't do it than try and see. So in the meantime I work at a vet's office, which is by far my favorite job I've had. I always knew I would like to work with animals in some capacity, and I got very lucky that I work for vets that I not only like professionally but also personally. And even better, we are the only vet in my county that treats the full range of avian and exotics as well as cats and dogs. So in one day I may see 10 or more different species of animals, all up close and personal. I can't imagine a job that is better suited for me (good thing eh?).
