PLEASE READ: Walking the Boston Marathon course on Monday for FC Fundraiser
(events » other)
Monday, April 21, 2008 - 4:00 AM
Hi folks!
Julie Woods here. It's the day of the Boston Marathon. I'm posting to let you know that a) I'm doing the crazy thing again and walking it (yup, all 26.2 miles!) and 2) I'm walking it to raise money for the hunger relief organization I founded, Fans With Cans Food Abundance Network.
We've donated over 50,000 meals, we're now operating out of 4 states, and we're GROWING! The bottom line is that we need to raise money for the administrative costs involved in smoothly transitioning from being a proven grassroots movement to being a successful official non-profit organization. And that's why I'm choosing to take my 200+ lb., 48 year old, NON-athletic self ;-))) out onto the marathon course at 4:00 am and walk the whole thing over the course of 10 hours... ;-)))
My feet and back are already not speaking to me... and it's worth it to be able to more fully help those in need. ;-)))
We've created a mini-website to facilitate raising this administrative money while letting the world know some of the... well... FANSWITHCANSTASTIC (it was there to be said!) things we're doing. You'll be able to donate through PayPal right on the site!

Look, I know this is the day of my walk (I'll be doing it by the time you read this) AND it would sure encourage me -- during my walk -- to hear that the fund, which is helping us to help more people, is growing. (I'll be checking in with the FWC "ground crew" at points along the way.) What's also cool about the site is that you can send friends there to donate as well even after the marathon!
Please check out our FUNdraising (emphasis on the "fun") campaign at tiny.cc/HappyFeet. As always, we're doing our best to have doing good feel GREAT for everyone!
Please hold me in your prayers -- I'm scared and excited and REALLY clear that NOW is the time to take our work to the next level. Thanks for all the love and support in the past. Thanks for your listening/reading now. And thanks, in advance, for your donations and support in the future as we move forward into this next adventure of helping those in need.
Here's to food abundance for ALL!
In Spirit's Service with GREAT gladitude,
Julie Woods
