Once I heard a story of the divine family at supper. Under the supper table Ganesha's loyal courrier, the mouse, found some crumbs. His brother Skandha's animal, a peacock, spies the crumbs as well and begins to fight the rat for dominion of the crumbs. Parvati's royal animal is a tiger who jumps into the fray of squawking and squeaking determined to devour someone in the process. And Lord Shiva's great Bull, Nandi, becomes frightened and runs away!
I do not know what this story means, but I am happy to see that the elephant headed boy who is also the source of all worldly wisdom that is written in books, or scrolled to by our "mice" is riding his faithful mouse into the future, or back into the past of most distant recollection...
