Ahh my little diva gypsy girl!!! Thank you for joining us at Entheon Village this year. I liked being your roomate, and yes, I am so on the "Kachina Katrina was my roomie at BM" t-shorts LOL. I think I have your camera- a small Nikon. You might have my shaman hat that Astarius gave me and the copy of Marti's book I left in the tent. We'll swap soon enough, I might be in SF in October. Love you much!! -Chiahuahua (aka Peppermint)

What a Beautiful and Phenominal Soul you have!!! You have so much energy and inspiration and your aways able to use it in much needed causes. You must have wings because I can't figure out how you can be in so many different places at once. I'm very thankful for our friendship over the years and estatic everytime I run into you at an event somewhere:) I can never thank you enough for your magical super powers of connecting amazing souls together with eachother. If it had not been for you calling my name on Burnside one night and convincing me to come to Hot Buttered Rum, I would have never met the Love of my life Holli. I can't wait to hang out with you again soon in the bay area now that were living close to eachother.
Much Love, Peace, and Light to you wherever you go and in whatever you do!!!

Kachina Katrina! She's a force of nature!
She came through L.A. and things haven't been
the same since she left. I believe the wake she
leaves is an entity of its own.
A super powered creature of light, she IS the
league of super heroes. I mean, the actual
place where the justice league meets!
She speaks of greening Burning Man
and voila! A village appears. Then, OMG
the THEME to BM is greening?
No one wields such manifestation magic
so innocently and with such mastery and
perfection. I am a fan.

...is an ecstatically magnetic vibration. As joy expresses itself from within, it fills our hearts and overflows into our friends, family, community, natural environment, and global collective consciousness through the very essence of our being it. When we are in a balanced state of joyful grace it comes through our own divine essence to influence others beyond language, time, and space.

KACHINA KATRINA:
KATRINA means purity, and KACHINA is from the Hopi Indians, a deity that comes down and shares wisdom and joy through story telling and dance, much like a jester, yet Kachina's come when it is necessary and there is something to share, like a prophecy.
This Fall Katrina will be starting grad school for a Masters in Psychology with a focus in Organizational Development at Sonoma State University. She wants to work more creating systemic and strategic change by working with the city government and community building. Katrina is well on her way as she is on the steering committee of the HOPE Collaborative in Oakland, CA a food and fitness initiative sponsored by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. A wide spectrum of organizations, institutions (Convened by Alameda Public Health and Food bank) and community residents formed HOPE to improve health and quality of life by transforming the food and fitness environments in neighborhoods suffering the most from health disparities. HOPE Collaborative stands for: Health for Oakland's People and the Environment. There are 4 action teams: 1. Built Environment, Kachina is co-chair along with Oakland city planner David Ralston 2. Food Systems 3, Family and Youth Services 4. Sustainable Economics you can learn more at: www.OaklandFoodandFitness.net
Kachina Katrina coordinates events and lead on connecting community based organizations together for the Urban Alliance for Sustainability (UAS) in San Francisco, CA. UAS seeks to integrate and inspire the sustainability movement in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond. She is currently mapping the ecology of the sustainable movement in the Bay Area, and with this information will be creating alliances for the work to be strengthened by people working together more on issues they care about, a solution from a fragmented system. This project is sponsored by the Craigs List Foundation and the Environmental Non-Profit Network of 650 organizations she is in touch with.
Katrina attended a workshop in Evolutionary Leadership in Sustainability with Syntony Quest and happy to share those skills in with the network weavers and community leaders abound!!
Kachina Katrina's newly developed community organizers tool kit is in evaluation process right now and will be available this fall for inspired people who want to do something about the problems in this world, and don't know where to start, this kit outlines specific practices and resources to get the job done!! Empowerment Works will be using some of the tools to add to their programs and partnerships, and there are plenty of placed-based programs ripe for this community organizers toolkit, Kachina is happy to share and have this be utilized.
Kachina has a focus on localization, utilizing the resources in a community of place, and connected to the Post Carbon institute and the Livability Project. She see's this as a solution to the world's problem with oil, to connect people beck to the land and resources for healthier living with less of a carbon footprint. Her community organizers toolkit has resources for the re-localization endeavors.
Kachina da greena has become an instigator in greening events such as Burning Man and is currently the volunteer coordinator for the green team at this large-scale festival in late Aug. This is a Leave No Trace Event, and seeks not only to minimize the impact in the desert but also to understand our impact beyond its boundaries. She created a camp to amplify this effort, called the Evolutionary Center merging with Entheon Village this year for the Green Man theme.
Katrina will be working with the Biomimicry Institute this summer to amplify the Nature’s 100 Best Technologies, along with the Zeri Institute Zero Emissions Research & Initiatives (ZERI) is a global network of creative minds seeking solutions to world challenges using nature's design principles as inspiration.
Kachina will be coordinating speakers for Earth Dance International in the Bay area this fall.
She is greening the hardware industry with Plan-it Hardware, a green products distributor for the home and garden that works with local hardware stores in California and connecting the dots in-between.
She is working with James Kalin, a green developer on turning a mobile home park into an eco village in Napa Valley, Katrina is the community organizer. They are using a high gross agricultural techniques called spin farming and will be transferring these practices to the East Bay in CA to bring healthier food to the people that need it.
Kachina Katrina believes in social justice and responsibility and does organizational development with a group in Oakland called Education Not Incarceration, which is rapidly expanding and recently joined forces with the National Education Association and building affiliate chapters across CA and the nation. She volunteers with the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights in Oakland, CA, and supports Village Focus International, a non-profit that creates sustainable solutions for villages in third world countries and combats issues such as trafficking. Their founder is a 2005 Nobel Peace Prize Finalist.
Kachina is looking at grad schools in organizational development with a focus on sustainability, appreciative inquiry, and policy for community endeavors. She sees this as an opportunity to support the movements to create a healthier world through her skills of organization and utilizing resources to be more effective in your practice.
Katrina is a sought after magician and happy to participate in experiences where she can be of the most service spreading her positive message of love and transformation.
There's a lot happening now that we're all connecting ;)
Love the life you live and live the life you love~ share it with others. Cheers to community!!

GREENING THE BURN
Greening the Burn is a grass roots movement coming straight out of
the community and is being supported by the Burning Man Project and its organizers. We hope to raise the awareness of others throughout BRC of the need to clean and green our collective Burning Man experience in order to create a brighter future. This action has been happening for a number of years, with staff greening the office, Earth Guardians and the Playa Restoration team really making this the largest Leave No Trace (LNT) event in the world, and this last year the greening efforts have gained momentum to have a Green Working Group (GWG).
UPDATE FOR 2007: The Burning Man organization is really doing their best to become more responsible and greening this event, as much as possible for being a temporary city out in the middle of desert with a history of burning things (da man!) and blowing sh*t up. However because of a bunch of concerned citizens we have formed ways for everyone to participate in recognizing the fun and importance of the environment. Thus this year we will Celebrate the GREEN MAN!!
AREA'S OF FOCUS:
Right now we are focused on these working committees:
Power
waste
materials
education/ outreach

MESSAGE TO THEME CAMPS:
GREEN THE BURN
***********************************
The following message is from a new collective of Burning Man brains interested in sustainability. There will be more information on the varied projects coming out shortly, however this message has been prepared specifically for you:
()()()()()()()()()()()()()()
-From the Greening the Burn movers and shakers:
We are here to encourage and help. We want to help Theme Camps and individuals alike, to take a few extra steps towards a cleaner and greener BRC. Everyone entering BRC for the 1st time or the 21st time should not only be aware of the Leave No Trace principles but also of the indirect trace that we leave when we don't think green while planning and participating in the Burning Man Project. As a collective of eco-conscious camps, we want to encourage you, as an organized theme camp, to give extra effort this year and consider the impact all of our actions will have before and after Burning Man 2006 and beyond.
()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()
Salvage - Take the extra effort after Burning Man to bring your extra wood and other camp building materials to re-use/salvage centers rather than burning or taking to a dump. The burn platforms are for public burning of art projects not left over wood you don't want anymore and especially not couches, carpet and PVC.
Burnerswithoutborders.org is planning to collect used building
materials and other unwanted camping supplies at the end of the
event. Look for them near 3 o'clock and the Esplanade.
Seek out recycling & salvage centers along your route home. Here are 2 links:

GREENING BM STICKERS!!
GREENING BURNING MAN is a grass roots, community
driven feel of this movement and I want to stay true to it.
That said, we are going to have 5000 stickers printed up, they will be 3.5"x3.5" square w/ rounded corners.
The Greening the Burn Project is a grass roots movement that truly began when Burning Man adopted the Leave No Trace ethics and began funding camps like Recycle Camp and the Earth Guardians. The movement picked up momentum in February 2006 when a group of concerned citizens of BRC met in the Burning Man Headquarters in San Francisco for a meeting of the minds. This is a movement that is coming straight out of the community and is being supported by the Burning Man Project and its organizers. We hope to raise awareness throughout BRC of the need to clean and green our collective Burning Man experience to create a brighter future for us all. If you would like to learn more about this movement or to join our discussion list, send an e mail to:
greeningman-list-subscribe@burningman.com
<mailto:greeningman-list-subscribe@burningman.com>
This sticker was made with love and care and will last for many years under normal conditions. Stick it where it counts and please recycle or burn this backing. Above all…
*Never let it hit the ground!

Come to the BM headquarters in SF every 1st & 3rd Monday at 6:30pm and we'll be discussing how to move this further and sharing resources, connecting groups, and really participating in this grass roots movement. I've been on this team for a year and love what is happening now- and love your your contribution.
cheers!
~The greening team!
Here is a great template created for the community in greening events orginally created for the regional decompression parties, starting with LA. This can easily be build upon for your region and decpression.
I love the theme for 2007, The Green Man, and acknowledging the importance in working in congruence with our environment. I try to live this philosophy everywhere I go and have been asked to green LA Decom. I consider this an honor and a excellent chance to work with all the regional groups in sharing notes, creating a template for some solutions to a cleaner planet and really carrying out the LNT mission everywhere we are. Below is my outline for this event, and we are open to suggestions and contributions. As many decoms are approaching quickly this year we may not be able to do a lot, however some simple ways to involve participation in the greening mission are:
∙ Signage
∙ Recycling
∙ Alt. energy where possible
∙ Educational material
∙ Off-setting emissions for a carbon neutral event
∙ Inviting Earth Guardians and green team participants to have a greater involvement this year and feedback on how we can bring information back home and spread it to our communities, like BRAF, Burners with out Boarders, etc.
- Have a green theme area and invite green camps to participate in or represent Evolutionary Center or AEZ with some collaborative efforts.
The more support we have for this greening program the greater success it will be on many levels. All while having fun creating a brighter and greener future.
Thanks and have a great day!

Initial OUTLINE:
Green Theme zone: Theme Camps, artists & mutant vehicles that have a focus on alternative energy & other green aspects. LNT tour camps - AEZ, Earth Guardians, Recycle Camp, Evolutionary Center as well as other camps that are going green. Regional artist collectives with experience in greener events like The DO Lab & Abundant Sugar, Earth Dance, and Green Business Networking Events. Green refreshments could be represented. Workshops on Permaculture, Solar energy (EE solar), sustainable living techniques in an urban environment, Bio-diesel and veggie oil, how to green an event. Projects for next year in tune with the environment (EarthLight, Thrive-ability tour etc.)
ALTERNATIVE ENERGY for the Green Theme Zone: A solar power station to power the PA system for the workshops, lighting in this area and whatever the theme camps & artists needs are in this area.
Bio-Diesel Generators & fuel for the entire event: Generator rentals from companies that Burning Man has worked with to provide diesel generators you can use Bio-Diesel in. Good companies to work with are Kohler and Caterpillar. More to be investigated in different regions. Pricing and availability of bio-diesel from commercial grade sources can be researched and provided as needed. Also resources and experts from the Burn Clean Project can be made available to help answer questions and do a walk through of the event. Mr. Blue, from the Burning Man Project’s DPW and BRC Electric, who oversaw the use of the generators and bio-diesel usage at Burning Man is also available. We will provide thorough directions and support on how to USE BIO-DIESEL CORRECTLY. This include pre-event, during the event, and post event to make sure the generator rental goes smoothly and that everyone learns the correct way to use bio-fuels and how to maintain the generators, from an experienced team. We will also be in touch with theme camp coordinators for power requirements and available for ideas and solutions as people learn new tricks to efficient power usage.
RESOURCES:
Burning Man Environmental Guru Blue, blue@burningman.com, and Burn Clean Project’s Ryan Wartena, ryanwartena@yahoo.com, will be your main contacts here.
Note: When you use bio-diesel it can remove built up carbon deposits inside the fuel system. Normally these will get caught in the pre-filter. Pre-event have the rental company drain out the diesel so you can truly be running bio-diesel. Post event- have the rental company do full servicing- including changing the oil and replacing all of the filters.
Recycling program. Resource (available in most cities): Check programs through the City, Special Events Program. In LA, they bring the containers, staff-paid through the City of LA (we still do the cleaning/ recycling), and they take away the recycling in the containers. We need to be clear with them the times for set-up and clean up- they leave the minute we say the event is finished- so let’s give our clean-up crew an hour and ½ time for after the event for recycling clean-up. I will check in with the City of LA to see if they have a curfew.
Plastic Bottle Recycling/ Re-use: www.TerraCycle.net - takes the recycled water bottles and turns them into plant food containers, giving a 5 cent refund for every bottle turned in!
Efficient lighting for the whole event- Resource: Angstrom Lighting for LED’s. I will do a pricing and comparison for lighting resources- as well as show the difference in energy consumption.
Resources: blue@burningman.com, www.colorkinetics.com, www.lightgod.com
Off setting and Carbon neutral zone- Offsetting any energy usage from petroleum based products through this event.
Resources: Coolingman.net, or CleanandGreen.us
Determine what the region’s Decom’s foot print and true energy usage is and what our commitment will be to neutralize our energy consumption such as planting trees, using wind/ solar power plants that feed carbon-neutral energy into he grid, commitments to energy conservation like less driving/ fossil fuels, use more renewable energy & companies, giving monetary contributions to organizations like Tree People (www.treepeople.org), and show support for the greening the burn movement.
Contact food vendors – first, education about what they bring creates the most waste at the festivals, including the plastic cups from the beer garden. If we have a LNT Practice and principal, then we need to follow through with it. Connect vendors (including beer garden) to Biodegradable/ Compostable products and education. (Show case in Green theme area, and support a local sustainable business as well J). Resource: Allan from Cater Green or Greenhome.com
Compost program- Located in Food Vendor area. Resource: City Programs. Most likely you will have to bring the compost to their site. This is a great way to work with Environmental Schools and teachers, for programs and experiments such as composting the event’s material in their school’s garden, the students will learn how to manage a program like this and solicit volunteers.
Signage: make sure there is appropriate signage for people to recognize the different areas and greening principals, so they know where to recycle, compost (what composting is) and trash. First, retrieve LNT signs from last year, make new ones if necessary. Need to know what materials are available and wanted (for aesthetics and continuity of signage display). No Fliers Zone sign? The largest amount of traces from the community in both LA and SF have been the stacks of fliers left and scattered on the ground. We don’t want to be cleaning that up again. Asking promoters to be more careful in flier distribution and not allow stacks to be laid down as much as possible, this mean managing the open table areas and the door.
Water Drums/ Dispensers and Drinking Containers- 55-gallon steel drum containers that will house water for the staff. This is prevention for the large amount of waste caused by plastic water bottles that use quite a bit of petroleum products to be made – especially the smaller in size. Resource through Benjamin from Divine Nourishment. Jars or plastic mugs for re-usable drinking containers for the staff. Biota – biodegradable water bottles: www.biotaspringwater.com 970-728-6132
Check in with other festivals like Earth Dance, Oregon Country Fair, etc for usage of their water drums/dispensers, and resources for where they got them.
Education & Resources- Share this template plus other resources with the Regional Reps. Resources:
