Help recycle lumber on the playa with Burners with out Boarders
Mon, August 6, 2007 - 1:43 PMlumber on the playa!
This year in the desert, BWB is organizing the largest recycling
project in the history of the event. We'll have 3 stations set up to
acccept wood and other usable building materials that will then be
donated to Habitat For Humanity in Reno. Last year's recycling efforts
were a great success--we collected six semi trucks worth, the largest
donation in Nevada HFH's history-- and we hope to surpass them this
year.
What happened with that wood is pretty cool, too: on Super Bowl
Sunday, burners from as far away as New York, showed
up to help build homes for low-income families out of last years load
of donated lumber. It warms the cockles to know that
somewhere in Reno a very nice family is living in a house built out of
the remnants of old theme camps.
You can check out photos of last year's recycled wood being put to
good use and read about other great projects here:

If we're going to be successful this year, we're going to need your
help. We need
dozens of people to help direct participants on where to drop their
lumber and building supplies. We'll need help sorting and banding.
Collection sites will be open at the end of the event: Sunday, Monday,
and Tuesday from 8am-8pm. We'll also need help with set-up and
clean-up.
You'll get lots of satisfaction from your efforts, help save a whole
lotta lumber, and maybe even end up with a dab of green zinc
sunscreen for your nose! We've built three very comfy lifeguard
chairs for our lumber lifeguards, now all we need is....you!!
If you'd like to get involved please send us an email and we'll fill
you in on the details:

Thanks for reading and we look forward to seeing you all in the desert!
