The Phoenix Police Department will now be making adjustments to the existing Photo Red Light Program to include illegal right and left turns on red. As it currently stands the twelve intersections with the installed photo red light systems do not capture those motorists who make an illegal left turn on red or who do not stop at the red traffic light prior to making a right hand turn.



As is outlined in Arizona Revise Statue (Traffic Code) 28-645.A.3.B a motorist is required is to first stop for a red traffic signal, yield to traffic then may make a right turn on red when it is safe to do so. After the adjustments are made to the existing system those motorist who approach a red traffic light at the listed intersections, and fail to stop prior to making a right turn will be captured with the use of photo technology and will be issued a citation.



The implementation of photo red light technology has reduced the number of serious collisions and has made the roadways safer.



The intersections equipped with photo red light technology are:



67th Ave/McDowell

35th Ave./Dunlap

35th Ave./McDowell

27th Ave./Glendale

19th Ave./Thunderbird

19th Ave./Northern

7th Ave/Glendale

Cave Creek/Greenway Parkway

7th St./Bell

7th St./Northern

32nd St./McDowell

40th St./Pecos
