flu prevention/mitigation tips

<a href="http://people.tribe.net/kaimalino/blog/6b569064-e116-44a0-9b38-2f90bc2947d1"> <img class=" picThumb" src="http://images.tribe.net/tribe/upload/photo/4a8/ef8/4a8ef8ea-bd50-4f83-b514-2c8afa7c89b4.thumb" width="65" height="53" alt="" />
    </a>
										<div>Aloha everyone,

received this advice from friends and want to pass it on - sounds like common sense but it will not hurt to be reminded. and as always, if you suspect the advice then cross-check it on the net for yourself.

Dr. Vinay Goyal is an MBBS,DRM,DNB (Intensivist and Thyroid specialist) having clinical experience of over 20 years. He has worked in institutions like Hinduja Hospital ,Bombay Hospital , Saifee Hospital , Tata Memorial etc.. Presently, he is heading our Nuclear Medicine Department and Thyroid clinic
at Riddhivinayak Cardiac and Critical Centre, Malad (W).

The following message given by him makes a lot of sense and is important for all to know:

The only portals of entry are the nostrils and mouth/throat. In a global epidemic of this nature, it's almost impossible to avoid coming into contact with H1N1 (or any influenza for that matter) in spite of all precautions. Contact with H1N1 is not so much of a problem as proliferation is.

While you are still healthy and not showing any symptoms of H1N1 (or any influenza) infection, in order to prevent proliferation, aggravation of symptoms and development of secondary infections, some very simple steps, not fully highlighted in most official communications, can be practiced (instead of focusing on how to stock N95 or Tamiflu or subject yourself to the vaccines):

1. "Frequent hand-washing". (well highlighted in all official communications) .

2. "Hands-off-the-face approach". Resist all temptations to touch any part of face (except to eat or bathe).

3. "Gargle twice a day with warm salt water (use Listerine if you don't trust salt)". H1N1 (or any influenza) usually takes 2-3 days after initial infection in the throat/nasal cavity to proliferate and show characteristic symptoms. gargling prevents proliferation. In a way, gargling with salt water has the same effect on a healthy individual that Tamiflu has on an infected one. Don't underestimate this simple, inexpensive and powerful preventative method.

4. Similar to 3 above, "clean your nostrils at least once every day with warm salt water." Not everybody may be good at using a Neti pot to clean nasal cavities, so blowing the nose hard at least once a day and swabbing both nostrils with cotton buds dipped in warm salt water at least once a day is very effective in bringing down viral population.

5. "Boost your natural immunity with foods that are rich in Vitamin C (Amla and other citrus fruits)". If you have to supplement with Vitamin C tablets, make sure that it also has Zinc to boost absorption.

6. "Drink as much of warm liquids (tea, coffee, etc) as you can". Drinking warm liquids has the same effect as gargling, but in the reverse direction. They wash off proliferating viruses from the throat into the stomach where they cannot survive, proliferate, or do any harm.

~~

and my own personal addition: i have found that boiron's oscillococinum (naturopathic) is really good at reducing the severity of flu symptoms if you take it immediately when suspecting that you are developing symptoms, and that a hot veggie/chicken broth steeped with garlic and jalapeno's helps me too if experiencing symptoms.

wishing everyone an influenza free winter!

blissfilled blessings and much love

    </a>
<div>On a day when the wind is perfect
the sail just needs to open
and the world is full of beauty.
Today is such a day.

My eyes are like the sun that makes promises;
the promise of life that it always keeps
each morning.

The living heart gives to us as does that
luminous sphere,
both caress the earth with great tenderness.
This is the breeze that can enter the soul.

This love I know plays a drum.
Arms move around me;
who can contain their self before my beauty?

Peace is wonderful but ecstatic dance is
more fun, and less narcissistic:
gregarious He makes our lips.

On a day when the wind perfect
the sail just needs to open
and the love starts.
Today is such a day.

    </a>
<div>HUNA - The Seven Huna Principles

The Seven Huna Principles
From URBAN SHAMAN by Serge Kahili King, © 1990

1. IKE (ee-kay) - The world is what you think it is.
2. KALA - There are no limits.
3. MAKIA (mah-kee-ah) - Energy flows where attention goes.
4. MANAWA (man-ah-wah) - Now is the moment of power.
5. ALOHA - To love is to be happy with (someone or something).
6. MANA - All power comes from within.
7. PONO - Effectiveness is the measure of truth.

The Seven Huna Principles

1. IKE (ee-kay) - The world is what you think it is.

Positive thoughts attract positive people and events, and negative thoughts attract negative people and events.

Corollary: Everything is a dream.
Dreams are real and reality is a dream. The only test we use for a reality check is whether or not someone else experiences it. Hallucination means "your dream doesn't match my dream." "Reality" to a shaman is a mass hallucination, or a shared dream. If this life is a dream and if we can wake up fully within it, then we can change the dream by changing our dreaming.
Corollary: All systems are arbitrary.
All meanings are made up and the Absolute Truth is whatever you decide it is. What matters is how well the system works for you, not how true it is (which is an arbitrary concept).

2. KALA - There are no limits.

We experience two kinds of limitations: creative and filtered.
Creative limitation assumes the purposeful establishment of limits within an infinite universe in order to create particular experiences, made by God or our own Higher Selves. These enable us to experience life as humans on Earth (to play by that particular set of rules - breaking the rules changes to another game). Filtered limitations are imposed by ideas and beliefs that inhibit creativity rather than enhance it, like beliefs that engender hopelessness, helplessness, revenge and cruelty. They generate focus without the potential for positive action.

Corollary: Everything is connected.
The usual metaphor is a web of interdependence.
Corollary: Anything is possible.
All you have to do is believe. However, because you are not alone in the Universe, the degree to which something can be shared depends on the beliefs of others around you.
Corollary: Separation is a useful illusion.
Pure empathy makes you as helpless as the one suffering. Fear makes you lose sight of your role as dream weaver.

3. MAKIA (mah-kee-ah) - Energy flows where attention goes.

Meditation and hypnosis are simply different techniques for doing the same thing - refocusing your attention toward more positive beliefs and expectations. As stated, both are identical conditions of sustained focused attention. Those aspects of your present experience which seem enduring are the effect of habitual sustained focused attention carried on by your subconscious.

Corollary: Attention goes where energy flows.
Attention is attracted to all kinds of high energy intensity.
Corollary: Everything is energy.
Thought is energy and one kind of energy can be converted into another kind of energy.

4. MANAWA (man-ah-wah) - Now is the moment of power.

Karma exists and operates only in the present moment. It is your beliefs, decisions, and actions today about yourself and the world around you that give you what you have and make you what you are.
Thanks to memory we may carry over habits of body and mind from day to day, but each day is a new creation and any habit can be changed at any present moment - even if it isn't easy.
You select out of the immense resources of your gene pool those characteristics that best reflect your present beliefs and intentions. Your parents/social background have nothing to do with your present, but what you believe about them now and how you react to those beliefs does.

Corollary: Everything is relative.
You define "now" based on your focus (second, hour, year, lifetime).
Corollary: Power increases with sensory attention.
Many people living today aren't even here - most of their attention is focused on the past or the future. To the degree they diminish their awareness of the present moment, their power and effectiveness in the present also decreases.

5. ALOHA - To love is to be happy with (someone or something).

Love exists to the degree that you are happy with the object of your love. The unhappy part comes from fear, anger and doubt. To be deeply in love means to be deeply connected, and the depth and clarity of the connection increases as fear, anger and doubt are removed.

Corollary: Love increases as judgment decreases.
Criticism kills relationships; praise builds and rebuilds them. When you give praise you reinforce the good and it grows. When you criticize you reinforce the bad and it grows.
Corollary: Everything is alive, aware and responsive.
Your subconscious takes any praise or criticisms it hears to heart, even if its directed elsewhere, even if you're saying it. Each criticism separates you from and decreases your awareness of what you criticize, until you end up responding to a secondary creation of your own that may no longer resemble the original. When someone criticizes you, praise yourself to counteract it.

6. MANA - All power comes from within.

For every event that you experience you creatively attract it through your beliefs, desires, fears and expectations, and then react to it habitually or respond to it consciously. This does not mean that you are to blame for your abuse or injury, because you were probably not conscious of your negative beliefs, attitudes and expectations. It also does not mean the other person is innocent.

Corollary: Everything has power.
You do not have ALL the power in the world - everyone has the same power. The good news - you can work with these powers.
Corollary: Power comes from authority. Confident authority is the key to conscious creation.

7. PONO - Effectiveness is the measure of truth.

The means determines the end, not the ends justify the means. What is really important is what works.

Corollary: There is always another way to do anything.
Every problem has more than one solution. If the goal is important, you should never give up, just change your approach.</div>

    </a>
<div>the fire of life burns throughout the coconut
transforming(cooking) thus:

truly young coconuts have no flesh on the fragile inner wall
their life giving water is true ambrosia

the next stage has delicious slimy white thin meat easily scraped off the less fragile thicker inner wall
resembling in texture the divine emissions of the jade stalk eagerly awaiting to travel the silk road
the nectar inside is heavenly

from there the coconut meat thickens and firms
the shell becomes thicker and stronger
the outer husk continues to change
and the waters condense
all in preparation for the next chapter

ignition!
and the fire of life springs forth
in the form of a sprout of pure love
facing and absorbing the fires of life
that mother sun lovingly gives to us
through the firey changes within her body

many of these beautiful sprouts
lovingly give themselves to us
as nourishment
the sprouted spongy core
a delicious taste treat
reverent consumption

lightly roasted firm coconut meat
is a divine food of nourishment
as are other foods
properly loved by fire

when you step outside into the full light of our mother sun
you step into her fires which your body lovingly drinks
yet she cannot control the depth of her fire
as she has an entire family to feed
so it is up to us to know when we have fed enough
and protect ourselves accordingly

as long as the body lives
there is fire burning within all of us
the core divine fire of the mitochondrial engines in each cell
the fire of myriads of chemical reactions endlessly dancing within our bodies
the fire of electricity racing along our neurons
constant change

fire changes all that it touches
transforms

remember
you are love and you are loved
you are beautiful beyond measure

i love you</div>

    </a>
<div>there is a strong emotional charge with this blog so please protect yourself accordingly before proceeding...

well i have recently returned from my weekend journey to the kona side of the big island and it has been an interesting and lovely weekend. my purpose in being in kona was ultimately to be a singing part of a reenactment of an ancient palestrina mass as the afternoon service at an episcopalian church. while over for the weekend i also assisted a good friend i stayed with for the weekend with a garage sale he had been trying to do for awhile being unable to because he works nights. so that worked out well and we got much of his stuff into others care. in addition i was able to visit good friends and family whom i hadn't seen in 3-4 years sharing wonderful time of catchup over a beautiful barbecue. throughout all of this i experienced the intensity of the vog situation over there that all people in the kona area deal with on a day to day basis right now. we in hilo/puna are blessed in so many ways.

returning to the ancient mass on sunday... that was quite an experience. i love singing in latin and these ancient masses are beautiful in their composition. what was interesting as well was witnessing the sermon parts. keeping myself in a state of non-judgement as i listened to the sermon basically telling us we are miserable sinners only here under the grace of god, that god's wrath will smite the unworthy, etc... programming that i have not heard since i was a child and escaped that which i knew was not my truth and reality. during these parts of the service i stretched myself over to puna red road where most of my immediate 'ohana would be gathered sharing love in uplifting supportive ways and channeled it through me into that mass to in some small ways counteract the programming being delivered to the people there who were in lockstep with the sermon. bless their hearts for choosing to walk the paths they do... as we all choose to walk our paths. now tho i will have to really examine what the latin means in something i am asked to sing in and decide if it is something i would really choose to sing knowing what it really means... i may find i'm in for a shock.

now here i am back in hilo, still processing the fact that i got angry enough to become vocal about it in a public situation. this is a first for me as i have always in the past stuffed those feelings and then had to deal with them later. what prompted this? basically witnessing so many separated closed cold hearts. here is what happened (i am writing this to help with my own processing): when i travel between puna, hilo, waimea, kona i typically travel by bus and was returning on the bus. when there is room i spread out into the seat next to me, which many on the bus will do. as we got closer to hilo the bus filled up (which is typical as hawai'i county bus service is free to use) and so will clear the seat next to me to allow someone to sit down. of course not all will do that and resist and many will not speak up and ask for the seat ending up standing. at that point i was becoming angry with those who wouldn't open their hearts and have compassion for those standing as well those standing choosing not to ask for a seat. fine, ok, that is how it is and my anger with that has to do with my own ideas of correct action. we arrive at the bus depot in downtown hilo where most will disembark and continue on their journeys. as we pull up to the loading/unloading zone it is apparent this will be a different day as there are at least 20-30 children (keiki) waiting to get on the bus... enough na keiki to fill the bus up and use every vacant seat. i chose at that point, before na keiki got on, to vacate my seat and go stand in the standing area near the front of the bus. well on file na keiki and before i know it the entire aisle is filled with na keiki trying to find seats. people were not removing their items from seats for them to sit or were sitting in the aisle seats blocking the window seats. what is up people? are we so closed and cold hearted? apparently so. at that point the anger within me at this welled up and burst forth and i found myself loudly chastising bus riders to please let the children sit. this surprised many riders as most remain silent. i did not and repeated it, watching most people respond and allowing na keiki to sit... except for this one elderly fellow right behind me who was sitting on the aisle seat with his day planner in the window seat. i engaged him telling him to please let someone sit. finally i got him to move his day planner yet he was adamant about not moving to the inside seat and they could climb over him if they wanted, but he was not moving for anyone. near the end of my admonishing him to please let a keiki sit whether inside or out a fellow directly across from me yelled at me to shut the $%!# up... what i said next burst forth and was shocking i suppose... i looked him directly in the eye and said i will not shut up until na keiki are safely seated and if you consider that wrong then end my life now as i will not stop doing what i feel is correct in this moment. he did not know how to respond to that, it flabbergasted him, and he did not speak another word. finally na keiki are seated, and onward we go. at this point i have stepped back from myself examining my own actions somewhat amazed that i did this. and amazed at how closed our hearts can be which i allowed to give me pain... we are interconnected yet we forget this and act accordingly. i am still processing this, feeling that my actions were neither right or wrong they just were how i responded to that situation. was i extreme? possibly so from an outside perspective yet it was required at that time. i suspect i will be processing this one for awhile.

i hope for those who have read this that the emotional charge has not affected you adversely. my apologies if it has.

    </a>
<div>seven years ago the drawing associated with this blog was created. i had become aware of a lady here on the big island that could draw your true/inner self~lessons being worked on and so i asked her if she would for me. she did, she gave it to me, and she refused to do an explanation/interpretation reading which she normally would do when she presented a drawing to a client. for some reason it disturbed her greatly. regardless i have kept it to this day because it struck me to my core when i first saw it. being self-blinded i could not see what it meant and maybe have refused to understand it until now.

fast forward to last weekend. nothing is coincidence i believe. i met a man who saw the drawing as i was showing pictures on my laptop to friends. he immediately began interpreting that drawing and i became aware of it's meaning.

this is what i remember of what i was told:

the central figure is the goddess yemanja, specifically from the umbanda religious sect in brazil. she is a goddess of the ocean and patron deity of the survivors of shipwrecks. in front of her is a winged sacred heart representative of unconditional love. to her right is an angelic assistant and surrounding her are angels or orishas. the city is atlantis. everything is on the astral plane. the last item is the 'demonic' mask moved to the side to show that which it hides, yemanja. the tasks are to remember that i am unconditional love, that everything is that, and to remove the mask. the mask is made up of two lessons, one of darkness and one of light. i have to learn both lessons and once that has been successfully done the energies of yemanja will shine forth through me and i will be free of the mask.

i find it interesting what he said as i have remembered that i am unconditional love and that everything is that. and still i have felt that something more needed to be done, slowly realizing that throughout much of this incarnation i have been walking through darkness and shadow searching for the light. it is what brought me here to hawai'i nei. in the last couple years i have been steadily moving into the light, yet also keeping one foot in the darkness (the home i currently live in has begun strongly manifesting that darkness), becoming greatly 'stretched' if you will. and now, this year, i have no choice... i either move completely into the light or be sucked back into the darkness for the remainder of this incarnation.</div>

    </a>
										<div>lost at last
lost in love
love is here
there
everywhere
inescapable
yet
forgettable

a life spent in prayer
is a life of doing

love is being done
do be do be do
love
forgive
unconditionally
the rest will follow

are we
fortunes of dust?
beggars in disguise?
polished gems for the rough?

we are what we choose to be

does the statement:
"i am better than anyone else"
come from our heart/soul?
come from our mind/ego?
are we putting ourselves on pedestals that we can fall off of?
to what purpose do we measure our value against another?
does our mind/ego do these things?
does our heart/soul do these things?

if i am just another person to you
changes nothing
i love you
nothing can be done to change that
this is not a challenge
only a statement of simple fact

will you test love?
do you have expectations of how love should manifest?
beyond right and wrong
be aware
we set ourselves up for disappointment
when we have expectations

you have stood on the cliff
and jumped into nothing
you have touched source
and chose to remember

so

what is there to fear about love?
we are courageous
be fearless with love
for everything is love
everywhere
inescapable
and
rememberable

i remember

    </a>
										<div>aloha >:D&amp;lt;

another beloved and i were sharing our perspective/truth of the following statements and afterwards i thought to share mine here so you know more about me. you may have seen these before in the guise of a source deceptive chain-letter and...

what sprouts in the sterile dirt of a source deceptive chain letter we can replant in the fertile soil of ourselves as we choose

~~

1. Take into account that great love and great achievements involve great risk.
from personal experience they can rather than they do.

2. When you lose, don’t lose the lesson.
i see other than from a win/lose perspective. i go through lessons and if i've learned what it has to teach i move on, otherwise i rinse and repeat until learned.

3. Follow the three R’s: Respect for self, Respect for others and Responsibility for all your actions.
this is a life long learning process for me and i can say that i follow them more closely now than ever before and onward. love

4. Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of luck.
from personal experience i agree.

5. Learn the rules so you know how to break them properly.
imho 'rules' are guidelines that must be flexible in order to correctly work. i will take rigid and/or flimsy rules and modify them as necessary to follow my truth.

6. Don’t let a little dispute injure a great relationship.
i agree. i believe this is a matter of what is guiding the relationship... if heart then no problem. if ego then problem.

7. When you realize you’ve made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it.
i've been learning this all my life. i know i can be stubborn and stick to my guns regardless, yet if i am brought to see that i am truly incorrect about something, have truly made a mistake about something, i will admit it upon that seeing/realization, and correct how i can. nowadays this can happen quickly.

8. Spend some time alone every day.
definitely a must.

9. Open your arms to change, but don’t let go of your values.
yes and i will change a value if i see value in that change.

10. Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.
:)

11. Live a good, honorable life. Then when you get older and think back, you’ll be able to enjoy it a second time.
good and honorable are personal and societal measures. i change the beginning of this to 'live a good and honorable life according to your truth' which is something i do.

12. A loving atmosphere in your home is the foundation for your life.
my heart is my home and it is unconditional love... that is the foundation/structure/atmosphere of my life. the lesson has been and is for my ego to learn it is not master but friend/student/companion and allow the heart to guide and shine forth.

13. In disagreements with loved ones, deal only with the current situation. Don’t bring up the past.
yes. as i love all, this applies to all... lovers, family, friends, strangers.

14. Share your knowledge. It is a way to achieve immortality.
yes, regardless of immortality, share.

15. Be gentle with the earth.
gentle is a matter of perspective and from my perspective i am as gentle with our mother as i can be taking into account that i live in a society that is anything but gentle with our mother.

16. Once a year, go someplace you’ve never been before.
i have done this all my life and do this now... i go 'places' i've never been and 'place' for me means a physical, spiritual, mental, and/or emotional place.

17. Remember that the best relationship is one in which your love for each other exceeds your need for each other.
yes. for me when love exceeds need then the heart is guide with ego as friend/student/companion... ego is in alignment with the soul's purpose.

18. Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to get it.
success? what is that? i follow my truth as best i can and if it is a measure of 'success' then i give up myself as best i can for that.

19. Approach love and cooking with reckless abandon.
hehe one could think this would be a hard one for a taurus to embrace... for me i have definitely been reckless in my approaches and it is the abandonment part that i have come to embrace.

i love you
