Okay, now I have to write yet *another* testimonial because Diane is *TOTALLY* my hero and deserves all the fine chocolate that can possibly come her way. Hooray for librarians!!!

Diane is a mean, evil bitch and you should believe *nothing* she says... especially when she's right, which is when she's most dangerous and wins the arguments and stuff (but humble nonetheless--I have to grant her that). I should know.

She's a mandolin addict, and it bodes ill... Pretty soon she'll be a skid-row bum, sitting on the streets of Germantown playing "Soldier's Joy" for pocket change to buy herself gloves so she can cut off the fingertips and continue to play even during the driving snow...

Diane is my homegirl, my partner in crime, my fellow Fool and my believing mirror. We share wisdom, experience, encouragement and jokes all day long, and I can honestly declare that without her my everyday life would be close to unbearable.
She is witty, clever, sensitive and profoundly humane, what makes her friendship an invaluable priviledge in a world full of plastic and novocaine people.

about me
I am a fiery spirit with a wicked temper, and a passion for living life to its fullest. I love Tribe. I think it is wonderful to get to know new people and read your blogs and look at the photos you post, chat it up in the tribes, and just generally have a good time. My motto: If it ain't fun, don't do it. (If it's fun and it doesn't hurt anyone, do it with GUSTO!) I am married to my children's father, a wonderful man I am happy to travel through this life with. And we sort of agree -- now that we've been told the true "meaning" of "marriage" by those who think they own the definition -- we'd prefer to not have done that, but instead just live as life partners, maybe with a civil union. Divorce is messy, though, so I guess we're stuck in this marriage. LOL. Therefore, I think every couple who wants a marriage ought to be given one. Capiche?

The pace of life is pretty darn challenging right now. Not a bad thing, for the most part. I have become much better at organization, that's for sure, but sleep is definitely an issue. Graduation is this weekend. Once the students are (mostly) gone for the summer, will things calm down any? At work, maybe, but the rest of my life is really the issue here. Who was it who said, "There are plenty of hours in the day, it's just that there aren't enough days in the week." Damn straight. Not enoug...

I picked up my running buddy, Bob, at 6a.m. sharp and we headed straight to the sports stadiums in South Philly where we could park and take the Broad Street subway to the starting line. With around 23k people registered for the Broad Street Run, this was by far the biggest race I’ve ever participated in. The 8k race last fall, which was associated with the marathon seemed smaller anyway. And it was also my first point-to-point race, which means you either park at the start and run away from ...

To the Editor: May is National Bike Month and the week of May 12th-16th is National Bike to Work Week. My husband and I have biked to work already a few times this spring because of the fine weather, and – of course – gasoline prices. I also find that I arrive to work in a better mood after biking in than I do after sitting in rush hour traffic. My son, a Paxon Hollow Middle School student in Marple Township, has caught the bug. As he watched both of his parents prepar... read more
Today I biked to work again. It took a little longer in rush hour, and it didn't help that my neighbor was pooping his dog as I was leaving and wanted to chat about it for awhile (the ride, not the poop!). So I started 6 minutes late. I almost got offed by two cars, each passing me *way* too close. I didn't realize a car passing so close actually sucks the bike toward the car. Now that I know that, I'm prepared for the sensation "next time." Very unnerving.

T.E. wrote in his blog yesterday about the lifestyle we choose to live and the values we live by. How some folks lead high-stress lives to work on their fortunes and leave a pile to their heirs and others define "success" differently, by their peace of mind and their level of happiness and their positive impact on other people. Amma linked to writer Rebecca Solnit, who wrote amazingly on the power of Very Important People (a.k.a "Arrogant Idiots")... read more

Exactly. But it's the books I want at the intermediate level. Interesting readers. Right now I have something that is pretty easy (tres novelas con vocab in the margins), and something that is not really intended for study, but an actual novel in ...

Re: cycling in the rain

I think you should *always* have eye protection when you ride. Riding without at least clear lenses (even in the rain) is risky.
