STOP AERIAL PESTICIDE SPRAYING IN MARIN

The California Department of Food and Agriculture
(CDFA) in an effort to eradicate the Light Brown Apple
Moth (LBAM), will start aerial spraying of a
carcinogenic pesticide over Marin County on August 1, 2008,
-- this is not just one time -- it will continue for several years.
There have been no independent studies to determine
either the short or long term health or environmental
effects of the pesticide, CheckMate, (made of course by our
good friends at Monsanto) on any species.
Last fall citizens of the Monterey Bay communities
were assured there would be no adverse health impacts
and yet at least 643 people in Santa Cruz and Monterey
reported illnesses. Hundreds of shore birds were found
dead.
GOAL: STOP THE SPRAY until the CDFA publishes a full
list of all ingredients and conducts independent
safety tests on human health and the necessary
environmental impact studies and publishes the
results. The public needs to be categorically assured
there will be no harm to people or the environment and
that the spraying is necessary.
ACTION: Call Governor Schwarzenegger and ask for an
Executive Order to stop the spraying!
Call our legislators and request support to withhold
funding for LBAM aerial spraying.
