Primordial Soup v2 (blog entry) The next phase was to add more layers of colour using semitransparent washes of acrylic. I used a drybrush technique to create more texture. The seaweed was coated with titantium white and buff to make it stand out more.

Primordial Soup - Phase 1 (blog entry) This will be a very textural painting with natural elements and possibly a monochromatic colour scheme - although you never know how it may turn out!

From my recent trip to Vancouver Island (between storms thankfully!) I gathered seaweed and my... read more

Now it's starting to come together. I've added two image transfer overlays for visual interest. Image transfers are created by photocoping something or using newspaper articles/photos and then burnishing clear shelf liner over the image/text. It is then soaked in water and the paper can be rubbed off leaving the image transfered onto a clear film. By using this method, you can overlay images allowing the background to be seen under it.

This is the first entry of my art blog. Creating art has always been an integral part of my life, my identity. This is what I was born to do, creating art is part of my earliest memories. What I would like to do with this blog, is to invite you into the world of the art process. I have two new paintings underway, and I will record my progress with each one with photos showing each stage, and writing about the process, the challenges and the 'happy accidents' that make up part of the creative ... read more
