My Blog

For those of you not on facebook:

Thursday night, I got an email late in the day from my dad, asking me to call him right away. He had a mini laptop at the hospital. I called the hospital and they told me there was no Ray Farley at the hospital! They rang me up to his floor, but the nurse said he wasn't there and she didn't know where he was! They suggested I call his house and sure enough, he was home! They had told me at some point that I would be notified before he was released with en... read more

For those of you not following my updates on Facebook, my dad went in for valve replacement on August 5th. He was supposed to only be in the hospital 3-5 days, but then, they had to put in a permanent pacemaker, and now he's having a reaction to a drug they gave him that's caused his platelet count to fall. They've changed the med and now have to get his platelet count up before he comes home. I'm changing and re-changing plans, so I can take him home from the hospital and stay with him at le... read more

I'm 49 today. That's just fine with me. I've never been one much to care about my age. Maybe because I never really had a "glorious youth" to idolize. Maybe.

This next year, I have to decide what direction to take my career. It seems I'm going in several directions. I'm finishing up my master's in Educational Technology. I'm starting my 8th year teaching reading and a friend of mine wants me to consider becoming an art teacher. Reading is a very important skill to teach, even or especiall... read more

This is the time of year that, as a teacher, you both look forward to and dread. It's the time of year that really shows how well you've set up your classes and how well you've reinforced your routines and procedures. It's also the time of year where every little chink shows and every little crack threatens to blow everything apart. I was thinking of some good metaphors, some of them having to do with a room full of cats, others having to do with a spaceship hitting warp speed. This last few ... read more

My Testimonials

I'm surprised I haven't already written a testimonial for Kathleen. (note to self: you've got a terrible memory, remember that).
Kathleen is beautiful, she has the smile and the hair I was supposed to have. She is also kind, generous and talented. It is very easy to be peaceful in Kathleen's company or laugh with outrageous joy. I've yet to find a task that Kathleen cannot handle with finesse, a problem she can't think through logically and dispense with calm. Her sense of fun and the absurd are wonderful.
I consider myself fortunate to know Kathleen and hope to know her for many years to come.

Kathleen is what I like to call my partner in crime. Sadly I think it might be a good thing we live so far away. We have so much fun on tribe, I can't imagine the trouble we would get into if we were in one place!

Kindhearted, genuine and bright, I am honored to call Kathleen friend. The mayhem she creates with her photoshop creativity is the definition of Evil Monkey Genius!

A true friend who can always make me laugh. Who could ask for more?

My Friend, Kathleen , is so special . She has been here to share her beautiful creations with me , time and time again. She even is sweet enough, to give me specific instructions , when I 've asked. Technical problems, with other things, she has been ' my life saver '. I valued her wonderful Friendship and her knowledge . She is so eager to help me , when I know that it takes her 'valuable time , to instruct me on solving the situation . I feel very guilty for asking her .
Kathleen, please know that I would do the same for you, anytime and any place. I wish we were closer to each other, 'cause I owe you a few dinners or lunches. But for now, this will have to do.........XOXOXOX......hugs and kisses, just for YOU. Thanks for everything !

I took this this morning around 7 while waiting for my car windows to defrost! I'm always fascinated with dark tree limbs against a beautiful sky.

My Recent Activity

Re: Crucifixes: Just Say "No" (in Atheists) I say the pledge with me students, though I don't make them say it and I leave out the 'under god.' No one has noticed it, or, if they have, they haven't mentioned it. One of my students is a Jehovah's Witness. They have to officially inform you, ... read more

Though to date, I've never seen a mime in Reno. It's actually not even filmed in Reno.

Re: S19 - Samoa - EPISODE 8 (spoiler warning) (in Survivor Or Bust) Yeah, I have to admit, I've enjoyed watching him play this past few weeks. He's apologetically snarky, but very clever. I'm interested in seeing how he can do damage control. It reminds me of the game Hatch played: very astute in gauging the relet... read more
