When will it stop? I don't think it ever will.
BUT, I think it slows down when more pros out there talk about and support (with actions and choices) professional standards. *sigh* |

We American Sign Language Interpreters have the same problem. No one wants to pay for equal access even though the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) requires any business, education, medical, etc. setting to provide ASL interpreters. We are, apparently, all pro bono and waiting for our paychecks in the afterlife. I know it's different from being expected to BD for free, but, I get your frustration.

Makes me wonder if I can get people to pay me for not going to parties...

I get up on my soapbox about this one all the time.
But I think if we don't, as a group, raise our professional standards, we will always suffer for this. |

I like "Well then can one of your students dance for free?"
The truth is that there are too many "belly dancers" that will perform for free and if they keep calling around they will find someone who says yes. |
