Fri, March 21, 2008 - 9:09 AMSo if this happens I'll be leaving in about 2-3 weeks. I'll go down by myself and rent a room somewhere until the end of our lease here in Seattle (I believe the end of May) when Xander would load up a moving van and join me.
Last year I was literally torn apart by the thought of having to leave my friends to move to Phoenix. Now, in the face of what some are insisting is going to be the next Great Depression, I'm relieved to have some stability (almost, anyway.) My career has been my single biggest stressor for a number of years now and that may very well be negated soon. I'm really excited.
I've not heard the greatest things about Sacramento, honestly. It seems to be a land of strip malls and the Govenator. Neither of which I particularly fancy. But there is a thriving Burner community there, Techshop is opening a location there, it's only a two hour drive from San Francisco, and there seem to be some fairly good deals on housing. I think with the right set up we could be happy there, for the next couple of years at least, until we move back home.
So if anyone knows anything at all about Sacramento or can hook us up with the local crowd please drop me a line!

Hello from another PacNW-to-Sacramento transplant! I saw your post on the Horsecow tribe and though I'd come get to know you.
I moved to Sac in 2002. I grew up in the San Juan islands, and the "small town, but big city" feel of the midtown Sacramento area really appeals to me. Yes, Arden and other outlying areas are strip malls. But downtown is filled with trees, very walkable, and there's a lot of neat stuff to discover. So don't fret! We'll take good care of ya'. Drop a line if you like. I'm happy to be the coffee welcome wagon. |
