Seven years ago today, I tattooed my intentions and commitments into my flesh for the first time. In front of family and friends, in a ceremony that we did not yet recognize as a pagan rite, we sealed our vows with words and wine and kisses and ink and blood. And we have done so on the anniversary each year - in sacred spaces, in our home, in ancient celtic ruins, in front of Elvis on the streets of Vegas.

Some words of advice the next time you're in New Orleans:
1. Just because it's 10am doesn't mean that you can avoid drunk college boys on Bourbon Street. They're still there, drinking since 10am the day before.
2. Wear jeans that you don't mind getting dirty. Sit on curbs, steps, and stoops all over the French Quarter and listen to a different live musician every couple of blocks. Flirt with a clown and receive a balloon flower. Give it to the next drunk that hits on you... in front...
