JASON KNIGHT - DJ / PRODUCER
RELEASE NAME:
Thermal EP
LISTEN and DOWNLOAD:
www.djjasonknight.com/thermal
THERMAL OVERVIEW:
Thermal, Jason Knight’s second release on Keyframe Records, embarks on a new sound for this seasoned producer. With his production firmly grounded in trance, Jason takes his love for techno and electro and unites the sounds together to bring what DJ’s and producers are defining as the new sound of tech trance. Hard, tight bass lines fill the lower spectrum of audio, while Jason’s signature contemporary techno stabs fill out the rest of the sound.
What defines the music found on Thermal is Jason’s attention to composition. Thermal captures his ability to effectively compose tracks from beginning to end, creating a story that tempts the listener into a state of dance and exploration, rather than looping samples in hopes of grabbing them.

The Welfare of Others
Metta usually translated as 'loving kindness' is a quality highly esteemed in Buddhism. Sometimes it is translated as 'good will' but 'loving kindness' seems to capture the spirit of the word more comprehensively - it's about giving oneself selflessly to others, without enmity, without cruelty. Metta is about developing an attitude of mind in which one desires the welfare of all others. But it is also about expressing this in active ways. This doesn't mean that we get up one morning and set about changing the world in some sort of highly dramatic fashion (though of course, there's room for that!), it's more about bringing this selfless attitude into one's daily affairs - the way one interacts with colleagues at work, or with one's family, or even with people we meet on a casual basis. It's trying to get this attitude of mind to permeate everything we do.
Boundless Heart
Loving kindness is a virtue that is emphasized in all traditions of Buddhism. Of course, it stems from the word of the Buddha himself and is found in the Pali Canon. The Metta Sutta itself reads very much like a traditional prayer. First it states that he who wishes to attain nibbana should develop certain moral qualities such as being content with living modestly and being 'perfectly upright, noble of speech, gentle and humble'. The sutta then breaks into a desire for all beings to be happy - without exception!
(This 'without exception' can be a difficult one. I recently went into a junior school to discuss metta with a group of ten and eleven year olds. They had no problem extending their feelings of loving kindness to friends, family and even their teacher! but great difficulty feeling comfortable with extending it to people they disliked.)
The Metta Sutta provides us with a very striking image of what form this love should take: 'Just as a mother would protect her only child at the risk of her own life, even so, let him cultivate a boundless heart towards all beings'. This maternal image has particular resonance within the Tibetan tradition where it is said that in our previous lives we have all been another person's mother at some point. This makes the bond between ourselves and all other beings a very close one, despite what might seem like our current emotional distance.
Plasmon
In physics, the plasmon is the quasiparticle resulting from the quantization of plasma oscillations. They are a hybrid of the electron plasma (in a metal or semiconductor) and the photon. Thus, plasmons are collective oscillations of the free electron gas at optical frequencies.
A plasmon is basically just an oscillation of the conduction electrons in a metal.
This definition suggests that plasmons are strictly quantum mechanical entities, but many of their important properties can be derived directly from Maxwell's Equations.
It is the classical electrodynamical picture that is implied in most of the modern literature on plasmons. And for simulations of plasmons in complex geometry no free electrons are simulated, but simply the dielectric constant for a given frequency is used (or the local impulse response if you use time instead of frequency). No nonlocal interaction (like the one which is needed for high-precision UV lithography lens simulation) is needed.

PREFACE: In a distant Galaxy a counsel is assembled to determine the fate of planet Earth.
Some fear that nuclear war looms close which would threaten the stability of the solar system. Most view us as infants or animals, but some are aware of our potential. Others fear our evolution.
You are an ancient soul that has studied the earth for eons. The counsel has requested your attendance to give testimony regarding the humans. The Counsel has determined that they will eradicate humanity in the Earth year 2012 if there is no hope of demilitarization. They ask for your perspective on the matter.
THE QUESTION IS:
How can the humans design a way to co-exist peacefully given the present situation, their history, and the politics involved? What must the humans understand (or what must occur) to become united? How can the humans reach their full potential and transcend?

LONDON, England (Reuters) -- Beaming people in "Star Trek" fashion is still in the realms of science fiction, but physicists in Denmark have teleported information from light to matter bringing quantum communication and computing closer to reality.
Until now scientists have teleported similar objects such as light or single atoms over short distances from one spot to another in a split second.
But Professor Eugene Polzik and his team at the Niels Bohr Institute at Copenhagen University in Denmark have made a breakthrough by using both light and matter.
"It is one step further because for the first time it involves teleportation between light and matter, two different objects. One is the carrier of information and the other one is the storage medium," Polzik explained in an interview on Wednesday.
The experiment involved for the first time a macroscopic atomic object containing thousands of billions of atoms. They also teleported the information a distance of half a meter but believe it can be extended further.
"Teleportation between two single atoms had been done two years ago by two teams, but this was done at a distance of a fraction of a millimeter," Polzik, of the Danish National Research Foundation Center for Quantum Optics, explained.
"Our method allows teleportation to be taken over longer distances because it involves light as the carrier of entanglement," he added.
Quantum entanglement involves entwining two or more particles without physical contact.
Although teleportation is associated with the science-fiction series "Star Trek," no one is likely to be beamed anywhere soon.
But the achievement of Polzik's team, in collaboration with the theorist Ignacio Cirac of the Max Planck Institute for Quantum Optics in Garching, Germany, marks an advancement in the field of quantum information and computers, which could transmit and process information in a way that was impossible before.
"It is really about teleporting information from one site to another site. Quantum information is different from classical information in the sense that it cannot be measured. It has much higher information capacity and it cannot be eavesdropped on. The transmission of quantum information can be made unconditionally secure," said Polzik whose research is reported in the journal Nature.
Quantum computing requires manipulation of information contained in the quantum states, which include physical properties such as energy, motion and magnetic field, of the atoms.
"Creating entanglement is a very important step, but there are two more steps at least to perform teleportation. We have succeeded in making all three steps -- that is entanglement, quantum measurement and quantum feedback," he added.

Keyframe:
In computer animation, the animator creates only the first and last frames of a simple sequence; the computer fills in the gap. This is called tweening. A Keyframe contains the peak point of action in movement.
~~~
Keyframe is a moniker I adopted years ago, primarily because I work in 3D animaton and because I find a deep philosophical connection to the term. I hope to be a Keyframe in everyone's life. Whether I am sharing space with a stranger, a life-long friend or a family member... my purpose is to be a Keyframe in that person's existence.
A conduit of growth, transcendence, and fun.
I try to guide, connect, help, teach, enjoy, interact with all in a very unique way. I feel that I am a mirror and my essence is to adapt and reflect energy... I always find myself sharing with others specific parts of my persona depending on the individual... usually it is the type of energy that they share with me that is reciprocated.
A catapult of exploration and insight.
I also welcome other people's Energy, Counsel, Teachings and Love as Keyframes in my life. The concept is a natural cycle that is meant to enhance the living experience.
The 3 A’s of living enlightenment
Awareness
To live with active awareness will enable us to see things as they are, enable ourselves to perceive the truth. Important here is to not only be aware of our own needs and wants, experiences, thoughts and feelings, but it is rather important to look beyond the Self and to recognize that which is going on around us, recognize the world outside realistically and objectively. To extend our sense of awareness well beyond the Self, beyond the Ego will allow us to get in touch with a wonderful new world of new ideas, concepts, values and beliefs. Once we are able to open ourselves up more to that which is real and true beyond 'what-we-know' are we able to get in touch with the unique human essence which lies within each and every human being. Practicing awareness will allow us to see ourselves more fully, enable us to recognize our true feelings, thoughts and behaviors more clearly, while at the same time learning to become more aware of others and who they really are. It is this kind of awareness which can allow us to live in accordance to that which is real and true within ourselves as well as in the world surrounding us.
Acceptance
Only if we develop to a point where we unconditionally accept that which ultimately cannot be changed, regardless if we agree with it, like it or approve of can we begin to see and understand that which is true and real beyond our own subjective level of awareness. In terms of our relationships with others, active acceptance will enable us to see another person for who they really are. By practicing active acceptance we overcome our need to manipulate, change or control the other people and fully allow them to be who they choose to be. This is not about our approval of them, which is based on the ego since we compare the other person to ourselves and how we want them or need them to be, but rather it is about relating ourselves to them on the basis of who they really are. Once we practice active inner acceptance we come to find that the impression, projections, expectation, judgments and evaluations of other people are less about us, and more about them. Once we have gained this realization on a conscious level we can learn to take the actions, behaviors and comments of other people less personal, and it is then possible for us to get passed any negative feelings which only undermine our ability to have positive relationships with others.
Appreciation
Simple appreciation is such a rare quality that I think it is time to realize for ourselves how important it is to give thanks. As most of us are complaining about this or that, the boss or spouse yelling at them, or the guy who cut them off on the highway we have forgotten that there is no way to happiness, but that only genuine and active inner happiness is the way. Only by practicing unconditional appreciation will we be able to fully embrace ourselves, others and life in general more fully. Just like awareness and acceptance, appreciation is unconditional since it springs from our active personality orientation and attitude towards ourselves, others and the world in general.
The concept of the "thinking machine" appears throughout history, from Pygmalion, to HAL 9000, to Steven Spielberg's film, "A.I." The desire to breathe life into sculpted clay - or today, into silicon - has been with us for thousands of years.
When the computer first appeared in the 1950s, we seemed closer than ever to creating an "electronic brain." Yet, the major goal of artificial intelligence research - to create a machine that can communicate like a person - has yet to be achieved. Artificial intelligence has given us everything from PARRY, the paranoid chatbot, to Japanese fuzzy logic rice cookers, but it hasn't yet produced a computer that can carry on a conversation.
Today, the field of artificial intelligence can be described as a global primordial soup of cognitive and computer science, psychology, linguistics, and mathematics, waiting for that flash of lightning - an interdisciplinary effort bringing together researchers and resources, developing new approaches, utilizing the world's storehouse of knowledge, to generate the spark that will create a new form of life.
The San Francisco LoveFest is an volunteer non-profit organization. Any profits made from the event go back into next year's event and to participating non-profit organizations. This year's event is a new event that takes into account our alignment with the original vision of the Loveparade events, our experience throwing them the last 2 years, and makes it our own. That vision of a free parade that celebrates music, love, diversity, tolerance, dance, and community is something we believe in strongly, and believe America needs now more than ever. Dance music has always had a special ability to bring people together in the shared beauty of a universal vibe. Our community by and large remains 'underground' in U.S. pop culture due to very little support from radio and MTV, etc. We know that in a culture awash in conflict, materialism, superficial concerns, and greed, an event of this kind can lift the spirits and the hopes of those who to surrender to it's power. The power of dance. The power of music. The power of community. We're taking it to the streets letting the vibe and the cooperation and respect of the people taking part in it be a message of hope in dark times. We intend to make the event a platform for dance music to reach more ears in America and beyond, to carry a message of love and hope, to be a vehicle for helping organizations doing good in the world, and for dancing our asses off surrounded by friendly freaks. See you in the streets.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trance_music
Trance is a style of electronic dance music that developed in the 1990s. Trance music is generally characterized by a tempo of between 130 and 160 bpm, featuring repeating melodic synthesizer phrases, and a musical form that builds up and down throughout a track, often crescendoing or featuring a breakdown. Sometimes vocals are also utilised.
The style is arguably derived from a combination of largely techno and house as well as being heavily influenced by Goa trance. 'Trance' received its name from the repetitious morphing beats, and the throbbing melodies which would presumably put the listener into a trance-like state. As this music is almost always played in nightclubs at popular vacation spots and in inner cities, trance can be understood as a form of club or house music.
GOA TRANCE:
Goa is essentially "dance-trance" music (it was referred to as "Trance Dance" in its formative years), and as such has an energetic beat, often in 4/4 and often going into 16th or 32nd notes, especially for the pumping basslines. It is also noted for switching to a 12/8 beat with the same tempo during some parts of the song. A typical track will generally build up to a much more energetic movement in the second half then taper off fairly quickly toward the end. The BPM typically lies in the 130 - 150 range, making goa trance faster than more mainstream trance, although some tracks may have BPMs as low as 110 or as high as 170. Generally 8-12 minutes long, Goa tracks usually have a noticeably stronger bassline than other trance music and incorporate more organic "squelchy" sounds (sounds put through a resonance filter, thought to sound especially good on psychedelic drugs), with equipment used including popular analogue synthesizers such as the Roland TB-303, Roland Juno-60/106, Novation Bass-Station, Korg MS-10, and notably the Roland SH-101, used by one of the most prolific artists of the genre Simon Posford (Hallucinogen, Shpongle, The Infinity Project, Younger Brother). Hardware samplers manufactured by Akai, Yamaha and Ensoniq were also popular for sample storage and manipulation.
A popular element of both Goa trance and the closely related psytrance is the incorporation of strange samples into the tracks, mostly from sci-fi movies. Those samples mostly relates to drugs, parapsychology, Extraterrestrials, existentialism, OBE's, dreams, various fields of science and other things that could be deemed as "mysterious" and "unconventional".
