Sun 29th 2pm EST - Somnia Records Showcase Mixed by KiloWatts

Somnia
'Music For The Spaces Inbetween

Somnia is an independent music label releasing ambient, electronic, minimalist, modern classical, electro acoustic, and "other" recordings. The goal of somnia is to create music that values art above marketing, passion above product, aesthetics above excel documents, and a focus on individual expression over playing it safe and fitting things into nice little genre boxes. Sometimes art needs to exist for a short period of time, and fade away in order to have meaning. in an age of mass proliferation of data, where any bit of information is accessible from anywhere at any point in time, we are interested in providing a forum for something "hand made", that cant be duplicated en masse. Every somnia release is special. special music, and special packaging, special love, special ideas, and special intention put into every single piece of art/music we construct.

Background context on The IMMERSE Tour:

Utilizing the mediums of sound and imagery, the IMMERSE Tour showcases the harmony of universal music and motion graphics.

Living in an era of instant information accessibility, sensory overload and the virtual rather than the actual, humanity is IMMERSED in a paradox between nature and technology. Perhaps though these opposites are symbiotic and not adversarial. Thus enters KiloWatts, Aligning Minds, the Great Mundane, and Psymbolic Visuals.

Through sonic and visual wanderings, an IMMERSE night will take attendees on an adventure that converges at the nexus of everything, celebrating life, death and the happenings between the two. As artists choosing to incorporate, express and promote these concepts, the tour is in a position to IMMERSE others in a coordinated, impactful experience that will create a powerful ripple-effect of awareness and inspiration.</div>

    </a>
<div>I recently did an interview for Openlabs about the art of making electronic music remotely.

"As technology continues to make strides, more and more artists are finding themselves left alone in their studios; while endless piles of gadgets replace people, and become an artist's sole source of inspiration. Where there were once groups of artists discussing the levels on the bass line, there are now lonely sound engineers, pushing buttons and sliding faders. But it doesn't have to be so solitary. Working remotely, while not a new phenomenon, is becoming progressively easier and producing better quality music."

At the forefront of innovation is an artist that has made splashes in every major electronic medium over the past 6 years. Be it breaks with his remixes of Eve Falcon and The Carbon Community as well as a collab project named Skeetaz; Downtempo/Trip Hop with his latest full length release on Native State; Tech House with releases on OM, Dirty Bird, and Thoughtless; or his wildly popular glitch-pop band alongside German guitarist and songwriter Vanek with the release of their second full length “Focus and Flow”. His cutting edge sound is testament that in the near future James will be a heavy force in the electronic music community.

Eric Estornel, under the names MAETRIK, MARIEL ITO, PLAEX, and simply ESTORNEL - has been contributing to his musical world around him since 1993. Eric has always searched for the future of electronic dance. Not being confined by rules of styles or genres is most important to Eric, as he makes his way through a political and fickle industry.

Cuban born and raised, Eric has always been around music. His father was a salsa enthusiast, and at a very early age Eric along with his older brother and younger sister were put into dance lessons learning all types of Dance. They all 3 soon shared the dream of becoming professional dancers and choreographers. Although a very talented dancer, Eric was always a little more fascinated with the art of musical composition and began experimenting with different acoustic and electronic instruments. In 1991 at the age of 13 Eric discovered a local Radio show in Dallas, Texas called Edgeclub that featured popular electronic dance of the time including Techno and Electro. Quickly Eric grew infatuated with the electronic sounds and intricate percussion and grew more and more fascinated with the Dj culture and Production side of the industry.

By 1993 Eric was experimenting with mixxing music using old turntables and tape players, and soon was able to save his money and buy a pair of the famous technic 1200s. Not long after Eric became a major vinyl junkie and techno enthusiast with a broad knowledge and love for all forms of electronic music, not just techno.

By 1995 Eric was a known and respected young DJ in Dallas, when he really turned to the production end of things, collecting and toying with different cheap synthesizers and drum machines. And by 96 he was already developing his unique blend of techno, electro, and breakbeats. Fast foward to present day, Eric with all of his different sudonyms has gained the respect of Djs, Artists, and music Enthusiasts worldwide. His Discography under the sudonyms Maetrik, Mariel Ito, Plaex, and Estornel - shows his production versatility and always evolving electronic sound.

Artist: Voodeux
Title: Bones EP
Cat-N°: MSHIP015
Format: Vinyl
Presales:December 10th 2009
Release date: February 14th 2009

Like the alien skull that adorns its cover, Voodeux’s Bones EP is certainly from another place and time. Picking up where their 2007 The Curse EP left off, sonic madmen Tanner Ross and Kilowatts have refined and sharpened their signature sound into 1,000 needlepoints, bound directly for the back of your neck. This is techno for a horror movie set in deep space. Reach for Bones if you have a crowd peaking and you want to rip their heads off. Burly slabs of bass rain down like Easter Island statues, while relentless crystalline atmospherics splinter endlessly towards the horizon. Skeleton Key is no less ominous, broadcasting its spidery main theme over an ever-evolving, increasingly paranoid chord sequence. Once the kick drops back in, the chords frost over with a layer of ice, smashing through the frame with all the subtlety of a yeti attack.</div>

Philadelphia's James Watts is back in action: following his releases as one half of Mothership's Voodeux, he continues to develop his distinctive Thoughtless sound with playful grooves, twisted melodic structures and plenty of spacey effects. Defining a new hybrid of techno and house all his own - with influences ranging from intergalactic jazz to visionary funk - this collection might just be enough to make you fall in love, regardless of the planet you're on...

01. Love On Saturn
02. Polar Orbit
03. Hyperion Hustle
04. Hyperion Hustle (In Retrograde)

"Thanks for such amazing music - the Love On Saturn EP is beautiful and full of funk. KiloWatts is defenitely taking house, funk, techno and other styles into new places - we will be playing this EP constantly for a long time, that's for sure!" - Signal Deluxe (Eintakt, Brouquade)

"All pretty solid freshness here - quirky goodness galore! 'Hyperion Hustle (In Retrograde)' is my sorta jack-joint. Fantastic, jackin'-IDM! I'll be playing this for sure - it's gotta turn heads big time." - Deepchild (Future Classic)

"Nice EP. Great sound design and attention to detail." - Alland Byallo (Nightlight, Liebe Detail)

"What I love most about KiloWatts is his continuous inventive progression and attention to sound design. All four tracks on this release showcase that talent to move and warp sounds while silky funking bass drives the dancefloor." - Limacon (Pokerflat, Resopal)

"'Hyperion Hustle' is great - definitely going to play this one." - James Teej (Rekids)

"This EP is awesome! Every track is superb. Right up my alley. Definitely be playing this out." - Andrew Duke (Cognition Audioworks)

Jesse Rose is currently one of the most in-demand electronic music artists around the world, with seemingly every festival and club on the planet wanting a dose of his delicious Berlin-based bass-driven sound. This pioneer, producer, remixer, DJ and label owner of Front Room Recordings has been making music for over fourteen years and is now an established trend-setter, taking his place amongst the most popular and famous producers in the international electronic music community. Headlining the “Best of Bass” night at the Decibel New Year’s edition, Rose will bring his funk-lined, hyphy electro-house to Seattle for the first time ever, dropping his playfully dirty beats, twisty sound, and chunky bass on our waiting ears and dancing feet. His track “Forget My Name” will be released on vinyl December 15th, but after the impending Decibel show there will be no chance of that- the sound of Jesse Rose will be tattooed on your eardrums for eternity.

KILOWATTS : Live
http://www.kilowattsmusic.com/
Philadelphia : Native State / Thoughtless Music
KiloWatts, otherwise known as James Watts, hails from the States and plays bass-heavy breaks, down tempo, and techno that will open your mind with beats like a sack of bricks. Performing all over the U.S. and in Canada at festivals and dance parties, KiloWatts makes creative use of drums, scratches, and glitches to fill his music with a unique potency that takes listeners to the moon- and leaves them there. His new album Ground State on Native State Records is a barrier-breaking set of mind-jams that insist you reawaken the divinity within yourself and find the energy that connects you to the universe- not hard when you are on the moon.

An ever-growing list of projects and collaborations exists. Skeetaz, with breakbeat cohort Bil Bless brings hard-hitting digital glitched-out psychedelic funk. His collaboration with singer Peter Van Ewijk is a mystical ride with vocals and guitar, nested atop edgy electronica. With Tanner Ross, an eerie style of dark techno is born under the name Voodeux for Dirtybird’s techno sublabel Mothership. Fellow Philadelphian MC Amagine delivers consciousness-driven motifs in their digital glitch-hop project called Super Galactic Expansive.

DERU : Live
http://www.myspace.com/iamderu
Los Angeles : Ghostly / Merck Records
LA-based ambient glitch-dub-hop pioneer Deru was one of the surprise favorites for many at the 2008 Decibel Festival’s Ghostly International showcase at the Baltic Room, bringing his unique style to the traditional electronic merging of warm melodic structures with cold, precise rhythms. His is the sound of condensed isolation; the music your brain might make to survive when you are locked in a feeling of loneliness in the middle of a crowd of half a million. In contrast to the sparse and scattered sound of others in his IDM arena, Deru’s sound is delicate and dense, packed with energy and infused with deep, thumping bass. His third album, Say Goodbye to Useless, is scheduled for release in early 2009 and will no doubt deliver more of the atmospheric, fractured sound that forward-thinking music lovers around the world have come to embrace.

novaTRON : Live
http://www.myspace.com/novatron
Seattle - Innerflight
The sonic wizard that exists on this Earth as novaTRON is a designer of musical experience that defies all categorization. An animal like no other, novaTRON creates completely original beats that are improvised on the fly on the Tron Box, a self-constructed constellation of audio hardware that includes KORG’s EMX, ESX x2, KP3, KP2, Koassilator, and a Roland SP404. The music born from the marriage of the mind of a mad scientist and the Tron Box is a unique symphony of breakbeats, a reality twisted into a science of experimentation that combines to form an aural experience that can only be lived in the present. NovaTRON’s organic live sets capture the ephemeral nature of art and existence and strap it down with a thick layer of bass before letting it go on it’s way out to the world and into your body. His beats take you on a trip through multiple realms of reality with a professor of phunk at the helm; his music is created of the dance floor, by the dance floor, and for the dance floor. NovaTRON is a master of the moment who continues to push the limits of electronica with each and every new set.

SEED : Live
http://theseed.tk
Seattle - LiveNLove
SEED is a killer drummer and producer from Seattle whose sound can be classified somewhere in the space between the genres of Jazzchestral Glitch-Samba, Ballet Ghettotech, and Transcendental Elevator Music. Representing local music collective LiveNLove, seed will be performing live on Ableton along with the jazzy vocal talents of Greer Sullivan and the smart rhymes of E@5E_95 for this year’s micro dB New Year’s party. Expect dubby trip-hop infused with experimental jungle, and look for this newcomer to continue expanding minds on the dance floor as he pushes his eclectic electric noise to greater heights with deeper meaning.

New Release : KiloWatts : Luna Rd. EP

<a href="http://people.tribe.net/kilowatts09/blog/2f59d495-c457-4794-9d13-9aa4afffb10b"> <img class=" picThumb" src="http://images.tribe.net/tribe/upload/photo/a98/422/a9842275-1b62-414f-8643-7b9f9a343aa3.thumb" width="65" height="65" alt="" />
    </a>
<div>“In the early morning am hours in Dallas Tx 1996, there was a mysterious and historic road tucked away from the bustling city chaos. It was in this place that the earliest house and techno sounds were heard by area residents and the eerie, hypnotic vibe of the surroundings created the illusion of stepping into another world. Among those to experience these nights of insanity was a young James Watts. Nearly 12 years later he has captured the essence of this legendary place in a spaced out Techno trembler. Luna Rd. uses floating vibes to travel the listener to the outer reaches while increasing energy propels the rhythm into an intense workout. To further drive this project to abstraction, we invited HD label artist Molecule to bring his digitally de-constructive vision to the EP. The RTFM Mix is packed with creepy spacial abnormalities and sharp glitchy noises. His Wrong Turn Mix starts right into a wave of chaos as synths, drones, and tones collide to create pure dance-floor insanity. As a special Beatport exclusive, we have included another jamming tune by Mr. Watts called “The Grog”. The Grog jacks with subversive synth syncopation and killer bass swells till halfway through when the bass explodes into a myriad of rocking riffs with crunchy filters and Star Wars esque mechanic noises."

LIMACON
The Ride
TLM014

Following an impressive string of outings on Poker Flat, Resopal and Auralism, California's Limaçon provides Thoughtless with three lucid tech-house jams designed for bass-propelled transportation. Featuring analog hardware and plenty of syncopation, the production on all three cuts speaks for itself – making a convincing argument for the future of machine funk. Hot off his Trentemoller remix for Tic Tac Toe, Rekids' James Teej shows us why he's poised to be Toronto's next big thing with a chugging yet evocative remix of 'The Ride'. In turn, Voodeux's KiloWatts drops a searing interpretation with burning keys and winding synth lines weaving into a prolonged tech-house crescendo. Fasten your seatbelt – with Limaçon at the wheel, we're in for a thoughtless ride...

Each drum loop is provided with a full mix as well as the individual "stems", so you can mix and match over 130 kick, snare, hat, and noise loops, and process every part separately. Drum kits containing many of the individual sounds are also included, so you can program your own beats. The possibilities are endless.

These generative glitchy drum sequences, complete with quirky but precise cuts and edits, will make your remix a biomechanical masterpiece. Making use of a startling range of frequencies, Bionic Beats will impress at nearly any tempo. Move your modulation wheel for immediate control, creatively programmed to give you instant mangle madness. From breakbeat to experimental to film, these loops are sure to raise the edge factor of any mix--in your studio, DJ set, or live on stage.

<div>Title: Pina Colada (Remixes by Voodeux and Maetrik)
Label: Mothership
Format: 12“ Single
Pre Sales:July 14th 2008
Releasedate: August 18th 2008

Just in time for the dog days of summer comes Piña Colada, a juicy slice of sun-drenched techno from Rodriguez Jr., (aka Olivier M, of The Youngsters [F-comm]). Fresh off his monster anthem ‘Rubbo Swingo’ for Mobilee’s ‘Leena’ sublabel, Rodriguez Jr. has created another unforgettable melody in Piña Colada. However, this time he has abandoned ‘Rubbo’s’ post-apocalpytic groans and growls, focusing instead on a playful, weightless theme that tugs up at the corners of your mouth as it skips through its octaves. This is techno for sweaty street parties, BBQ’s, and moonlit beach raves.

On the B-side, mothership’s own wunkerkinds Voodeux twist the gleeful melody into something almost sinister, infusing their signature spine-tingling soundscapes and booming toms into the mix. Their buildup gathers an almost unfair amount of momentum, crashing back in with the tuned toms before their euphoric and demented take on the main theme rides their mix to a close.

Also on the flip, Maetrik makes his second appearance on mothership in as many records, following up his ‘Space Chronic EP’ with a dark techno interpretation of Piña Colada. His version completely deconstructs the theme and rebuilds it from scratch. The end result is a Piña Colada of galactic sized bass and careening melodies – a fitting conclusion to this shimmering collection of summer techno.

<div>August 5, 2008 - 2008 marks the 5th anniversary of the Decibel Festival, an annual event held in Seattle that has now become one of North America's preeminent electronic music events. To coincide with this landmark year, Decibel has planned its most ambitious festival to date; featuring more than 100 acts from 12 different countries, organized within 24 showcases at 11 different venues over four days. A1. Everglade
A2. Everglade (Alland Byallo's Mixed Messages Dub)
B1. Exit The Laugh
B2. Well Tempered Weirdness

"The project kicks off with a heady, sharp, staccato tech house tune with dancefloor crumbling bass! Eveglade is a wintery and hypnotic pallate of strange sounds clashed with melodic swells. Like a trip through a forest, it changes and morphs from a light jazzy atmosphere to an intense synth ridden banger! San Francisco's Alland Byallo gives his signature spacey techno rework to Everglade. Dubby drums and covert chords rattle as this late night rework chugs along sending listeners into an unfocused reality. On the flip KiloWatts offers a drummy minimal techno tune with plenty of gnarling bass and glitched out pops! Exit the Laugh has a clockwork orange feel with haunting melodies and scary music box leads. Keeping with the astranged scenery Well Tempered Weirdness is a dancefloor timebomb! This tune starts out mellow and well mannered but soon builds into a swirl of naughty circus dreams with immense filtered strings and and various other sonic abnormalities. "

How shamans dream the world into being

    </a>
										<div>Alberto Villoldo:

Whether you realize it or not, we are all dreaming the world into being. What we're engaging in is not the sleeping dream we're familiar with, but the waking dream we craft with our eyes open. When we're unaware that we all share the power to co-create reality with the help of the Universe itself, that power slips away from us and our dream turns into a nightmare. We begin to feel we're the victims of an unknown and frightening creation that we're unable to influence or change. Events seem to control us and trap us. The only way to end this dreadful reality is to awaken to the fact that it, too, is a dream, and recognize our ability to write a better story, one that the Universe will work with us to manifest. The nature of the cosmos is such that whatever dream you have about yourself and the world will become reality.

As soon as you awaken to your power to dream, you begin to flex the muscles of your courage. Then you can dream bravely: letting go of your limiting beliefs and pushing past your fears. You can begin to create truly original dreams that germinate in your soul and bear fruit in your life.

Courageous dreaming allows you to create from the source, the quantum soup of the Universe where everything exists in a latent or potential state. Physicists understand that in the quantum world nothing is "real" until it is observed. The distinct packets of energy known as "quanta" (which consist of particles of matter as well as light) are neither "here" nor "there"; in a sense, they are everywhere in space-time until you or I decide to observe them. When we take note of them, we tease them out of the web of infinite possibilities and collapse them into an event that exists while we witness it. These energy "quanta" like to link up with each other once they've selected a particular form of manifestation. As soon as they manifest, reality becomes fixed: A particle is "here" instead of possibly everywhere.

But quantum events do not occur in the laboratory only. They also happen inside our brain, on this page, and everywhere around us. Even if they are separated by millions of miles, or by days or weeks, these quanta of energy remain intimately linked, so that if you interact with one, you affect the entire system that this energy is part of. When you access any part of the dream, the great matrix of energy, you can change reality and alter the entire dream.

Modern physics is describing what the ancient wisdomkeepers of the Americas have long known. These shamans, known as the Earthkeepers, say that we are dreaming the world into being through the very act of witnessing it. Scientists believe that we are only able to do this in the very small, subatomic world. Shamans understand that we also dream the larger world that we experience with our senses. Like the Aborigines, the Earthkeepers live in a world where the dreamtime has not been pushed into the domain of sleep like it has for us. They know that all of creation arises from, and returns to, this dreamtime.

The dreamtime, the creative matrix, does not exist in a place outside of us. Rather, it infuses all matter and energy, connecting every creature, every rock, every star, and every ray of light or bit of cosmic dust. The power to dream is the power to participate in creation itself. For the Earthkeepers, dreaming reality is not only an ability but a duty, one we must perform with grace and love so that our grandchildren will inherit a world where they can live in peace and abundance.

We went into extraordinary detail to dream our universe into being. Immediately after the Big Bang, 99.99 percent of all matter and antimatter in the cosmos went on to annihilate each other. The stars and galaxies that we see around us are the minute portion of matter that remained. Had the ratio of matter to space in the Universe changed by even one-billionth of a percent, the laws of physics that permit life to emerge would not have been possible. The Big Bang had to be so finely tuned, so perfectly orchestrated and calculated, as to produce only 1 part of matter in 10 to the 50th power of stardust. This is 10 followed by 50 zeroes, no more and no less. That this occurred purely by chance is possible only if we contemplate the existence of a very large number of universes in the cosmos, where an improbable event such as the creation of our own universe would have been plausible!

What's even more baffling is the fine tuning of the parameters of the universe that occurred, particularly here on the surface of the earth, which has maintained a perfect temperature balance between the freezing and boiling point of water for more than a billion years. The unlikelihood of these ratios that permit life to appear suggests the presence of an intelligent force. The Earthkeepers call this the Infinite Source, or Infinity.

The shamans with whom I have studied in the Andes and the Amazon believe that we can only access the power of this force by raising our level of consciousness. When we do so, we become aware that we're like a drop of water in a vast, divine ocean, distinct yet immersed in something much larger than ourselves. It's only when we experience our connection to Infinity that we're able to dream powerfully. In fact, it's our sense of separation from Infinity that makes us become trapped in a nightmare in the first place. If this sounds like circular thinking, you are right. Which came first, the nightmare or the sense of separation from Infinity? The answer is that they occur simultaneously.

The rest:
