It's cool to be HIP

OR...
if you are my father, it's cool have a NEW hip!

YAY!

My father (some of you have met him) has been in need of a hip replacement for about 20 years. As of today, that need is no more. He went in this morning and has completed his surgery and everything went well. He's conscious, alert and recovering.

I am so excited for him! I cannot imagine how living with the pain he has, for as long as he has, may have diminished his quality of life. He will be a new man. Unfortunately, now none of the rest of us ever has any excuse to not keep up with him. But, THAT is okay....he's worth it!

Roy got up early this morning to go to an oratory competition (he's judging) and he ran back in at 7-something AM to show me what he found on the porch...it was a blank envelope with what you see above inside.

except with the polite words that my good parents taught me:
"Thank You."

THANK YOU!

Quality of Observation

First-year students at Michigan's Vet school were receiving their first anatomy class, with a dead cow. They all gathered around the surgery table with the body covered with a white sheet. The professor started the class by telling them, 'In Veterinary Medicine it is necessary to have two important qualities as a doctor: The first is that you cannot be disgusted by anything involving the animal body.' For an example, the Professor pulled back the sheet, stuck his finger in the butt of the dead cow, withdrew it and sucked on his finger. 'Go ahead and do the same thing,' he told his students. The students freaked out, hesitated for several minutes. But eventually took turns sticking a finger in the anal opening of the dead cow and sucking on it. When everyone finished, the Professor looked at them and said, 'The second most important quality is observation. I stuck in my middle finger and sucked on my index finger. Now learn to pay attention. Life is tough, it is even tougher if you're stupid.'

The above is courtesy of my Uncle Tony. Thank you, Uncle Tony!

Steward. Road Rally Steward -- please shake me as I am already stirred.

So, I've choosen to take the place of the resigning Road Rally Steward in the Arctic Alaska Region of the Sports Car Club of America. The person who stepped forward has already stepped down. Thankfully, the season is mostly set and there are just a few housekeeping things that need to be done.

What does this mean to YOU?

Well, now that I'm "in charge" of the program, I have a responsibility to promote the sport (not that I didn't before). Yet now I warn you that you will have to endure much verbiage and postings in the future about upcoming events and perhaps even have your appendages twisted in a gently caressing manner that would encourage you to come out and join us.

That being said, we are planning a Road Rally School on April 3rd (a Thursday evening) and the first Championship event of the year will follow on Saturday the 5th of April.

The school will be aimed at beginners so as to introduce you to the sport and you can put those mad skills to work right away on the 5th!

C'mon!! Who is with me here!! I've managed to get a couple of tribers out...not all hope is lost! See? The picture above is from last June when Combat Chris came out to rally with Roy and I at the "Midsummer Nights Dream" Road Rally. We are some happy people!! Join us!

Our beloved little kitteon, Gideon, had to be euthanized today.

We took him to see Doc Metkeff and she diagnosed him with FIP, Feline Infectious Peritonitis. She said she's only diagnosed this 12 times in 10 years and this was her second case in Alaska. Unfortunately, this disease has a 100% mortality rate and there wasn't going to be anything we could do to save his sweet little life.

He was only 10 months old and brought us great joy in the lucky time we shared with him.

A man boarded an airplane and took his seat. As he settled in, he glanced up and saw the most beautiful woman boarding the plane. He soon realized she was heading straight towards his seat. As fate would have it, she took the seat right beside his.

Eager to strike up a conversation he blurted out, "Business trip or pleasure?"

She turned, smiled and said, "Business. I'm going to the Annual Nymphomaniacs of America Convention in Boston ."

He swallowed hard. Here was the most gorgeous woman he had ever seen sitting next to him, and she was going to a meeting of nymphomaniacs.

Struggling to maintain his composure, he calmly asked!, "What's your business role at this convention?"

"Lecturer," she responded. "I use information that I have learned from my personal experiences to debunk some of the popular myths about
sexuality."

"Really?" he said. "And what kind of myths are there?"

"Well," she explained, "one popular myth is that African-American men are the most well-endowed of all men, when in fact it is the Native
American Indian who is most likely to possess that trait.

Another popular myth is that Frenchmen are the best lovers, when actually it is men of Jewish descent who are the best.

I have also discovered that the lover with absolutely the best stamina is the Southern Redneck."

Suddenly the woman became a little! uncomfortable and blushed. "I'm sorry," she said, "I shouldn't really be discussing all of this
with you. I don't even know your name."

"Tonto," the man said, "Tonto Goldstein, but my friends call me Bubba."

Auditory: 41%
Visual: 58%
Left: 50%
Right: 50%

Kim, you exhibit an even balance between left- and right- hemisphere dominance and a slight preference for visual over auditory processing. With a score this balanced, it is likely that you would have slightly different results each time you complete this self-assessment quiz.

You are a well-rounded person, distinctly individualistic and artistic, an active and multidimensional learner. At the same time, you are logical and disciplined, can operate well within an organization, and are sensitive towards others without losing objectivity. You are organized and goal-directed. Although a "thinking" individual, you "take in" entire situations readily and can act on intuition.

You sometimes tend to vacillate in your learning styles. Learning might take you longer than someone of equal intellect, but you will tend to be more thorough and retain the material longer than those other individuals. You will alternate between logic and impulse. This vacillation will not normally be intentional or deliberate, so you may experience anxiety in situations where you are not certain which aspect of yourself will be called on.

With a slight preference for visual processing, you tend to be encompassing in your perceptions, process along multidimensional paths and be active in your attacking of situations or learning.

Overall, you should feel content with your life and yourself. You are, perhaps, a little too critical of yourself -- and of others -- while maintaining an "openness" which tempers that tendency. Indecisiveness is a problem and your creativity may not be in keeping with your potential. Being a pragmatist, you downplay this aspect of yourself and focus on the more immediate, obvious and the more functional.

I have this idea for a display for my glass. It's a cottage window with multiple pane openings...kinda like in the picture above. It doesn't HAVE to be antique or anything....hell, it doesn't even have to have glass! (I would actually hope it doesn't.)

I went to Ozarks Americana and Alice's Antiques today and didn't have any luck. Thought I would be wise to put it out there for others to give input. Perhaps YOU know where I can find one or two?

Maybe someone out there is an Ebay guru or knows better how to search for something like this than I do. Maybe someone out there wants to build a cottage window without glass panes? I don't know. Maybe YOU know. Do you?
