I got a new computer today. It's about time. My old one stopped recognizing the DSL modem last night. This morning, Qwest tech support tried to help, but ended up having to give me the Hewlett Packard tech support phone number. I figured why bother with that. We were due for a new 'puter over here. i love my new eMachine with the flat panel monitor.

Saturday at the festival.

On Saturday, my husband and I went to La Cai for Vietnamese food. After a nice lunch there, we headed over to Jordan Park, in my old neighborhood. There were some performances in the park's International Peace Gardens. We saw Korean drumming, Russian dances, a Tongan dance, a local singer who sings in Greek and English, Irish dancing, and Greek dancing.

Finally we headed to West Valley City for the 27th annual Utah Belly Dance Festival. Yasamina was there announcing. And again this year, KRCL Community Radio on-air volunteer radio host Babs De Lay did some of the announcing. Yasamina is Utah's most famous belly dancer and has contributed more than I can imagine to Utah's belly dancing scene. But now she lives in Colorado.

There was middle eastern, mediterranean, and Asian food on the patio outside. There were also some performances to live music on the patio. Performances on the indoor stage went on continuously except for a few short intermissions. There were group performances, solos, and duets. Besides dancers from Utah, there were dancers from Idaho, Alaska, Oregon, California, and one from New York who used to live in Utah.

There were several vendors. I bought some things from Thia's. One of these days, I'll have to go to her store in South Salt Lake. Thia is a dancer and dance teacher there. I bought a cane, Desert Wind's "She Is a Tree of Life" CD, and a DVD of Thia's "2007 Crystal and Ice Show" guest starring Ava Fleming.

I would love to see the festival continue to be at West Valley City's Cultural Celebration Center. And I would love to see the festival get bigger.

On Friday August 16th, my husband and I set out on our journey with my husband driving. We stopped in Beaver to eat breakfast at El Bambi cafe. Just typical breakfast food and higher prices than Denny's in that little old cafe. Then we drove to Nephi.

When we stopped in Nephi, that's when I started driving. Because I'm used to the kind of highways and traffic found along the Wasatch Front. I pulled into the KOA campground in Salt Lake City. My husband and I set up the tent. After that we went to Hogle Zoo. We saw the white alligator called the Ghost of the Bayou who is there for a limited time only, the zoo's new Asian Highlands exhibits with its big kitties. And we saw the darling African Penguins who are easier to care for in a place like Utah than other species who always have to be kept in very cold temperatures.

Then we went to a botanica so my husband could get some candles for some spells. After that we went to the downtown Sear's store because we wanted tacos from one of the three vendor carts that sell excellent authentic tacos on the sidewalks by the store's parking lots.

Tomorrow I will be free all day and night, so I will write the next installment of Kittyboo's Utah Belly Dance Festival Blog. And it will actually be about the festival.

They're just noting the times that the temps are writing down on the sign in sheet by the time clock and reporting that to the temp agency. So I made sure I had all of my times were written down and then I went home.

When my husband came home, we went out to eat and then went grocery shopping. I will be all rested and ready to go to the renaissance fair in Cedar City tomorrow.

Almost time to go to the ice cream factory. It's my last night there, but I feel like I have to force myself. I don't want to be in the women's locker room with the bitch who talked behind my back when she thought I had already left the breakroom yesterday.

But the other temp, who is supposed to be off tonight, was planning to work tonight anyway. That would make a seven person crew. Plus, they're not making banana split ice cream, so they're not running the maximum amount of revel pumps and fruit feeders (two of each). Two of one and one of the other for some stuff and one of each for the last flavor. And the guy who does cardboard is not there tonight. I could do that.

Or I could go in, get my time sheet signed, and come home...

I was laid off my previous electronics job on June 29th. The following Monday I started doing temporary work in the big ice cream factory. The people there are really nice, but I'm glad that I won't have to do that kind of work anymore. Two weeks of working 4pm to 4am even just four days a week can cause a person to get behind on household chores!

The zills arrived in a short time from Saroyan in Riverside, CA

I got my zills today. That was fast! I sent the money order on Friday April 27. I came home and found the tiny box sitting right on the threshold in front of my door.

Even more amazing, the UPS driver actually found the address! That's easy enough, but whoever was driving the truck the last two times I was waiting for something, couldn't seem to pull off such a feat. But of course the drivers always seemed to get packages to others around here.

I have the Turkish Delight Pro, the Grecian, and the Afghani. Yes, I'm planning on being good at dancing with zills. So it's a good thing I'm not an experienced belly dancer yet. (I read that the more belly dancing experience you get before you start learning zills, the harder it is to learn to play them while dancing.)

I do think that I will keep my beginner/intermediate Turkish Delight zills, though. Maybe lend them to a fellow student who comes to a zills workshop without zills. They are nicer than the $10 ones that may be available for purchase.

New part of post: 4pm MDT
Back at home now, I need to sign out and go to Tuesday Morning for that half price Singer sewing machine. I hope they haven't all been snapped up (they're only $90). I could possibly learn to sew some rather simple things well enough.

I took the elastic out of the waistband. I'm going to redo the entire waistband. It was too large and the elastic was twisted because it had been forced through an area that was too narrow in places.

I bought some new elastic at Jo Ann and I also found a product called "Fray Block" to stop threads from coming out of tiers.

I finished putting the Fray Block on the tiers and now I'm going to my parents' house to see if I can use my mom's sewing machine for the waistband.

I need to hurry. My husband is going to be back from church in about two and a half hours and then we're going to visit his sister at the hospital.

Skirt

I just received the skirt I ordered off of Ebay. It's a black cotton 10-yard skirt. I got to choose the waist/hip and length measurements. I could have overestimated on the size or I lost a bit of fat because I've eaten a tablespoon of unrefined organic coconut oil every day since Friday. I also overestimated the length because this skirt reaches the floor ( when I have no shoes on) even though I'm not wearing it as low on the hips as is usually done.

I'm going to wash this skirt the same way I wash all of my dark stuff (in cold water) and dry it the way I dry most of my dark stuff (hang it up and let it drip dry). Then I'll see about making some alteration

World Cultural Dance Symposium

That was held today at Dixie State College. Almost all of the 11 classes were cancelled due to low enrollment. I was lucky that all three I signed up for happened. Basic ATS Belly Dance w/Zills, Turkish Cabaret/ Egyptian Style Belly Dance, and Percussion 101 were the classes.

Now it's time for me to sign out and scan some pics.
