about me
I am funny, compassionate, cute. I like smart asses and smarties. I'm a geek, ex-Catholic school girl (12 year vet), librarian, biz consultant, and English instructor.
I'm a Buddhist, (by way of 12 years Catholic school). I've been a pacifist since a very early age. I'm anti-capital punishment. I think that sometimes organizations like the ACLU and Amnesty International keep this country in check.
I'm also somewhat introverted (MBTI -- INTP), but only my close friends know that. I believe in compassion and peace and try to live up to my beliefs (it's a tough world). I'm a robot collector and I have an amazing ward, Spike the Wondercat.

Phoenix is fantabulous, and is always quick to offer good advice, information - or just an "I've been there" pep talk.

This title is a tribute to a great, courageous book by Caroline Knapp, Drinking, A Love Story. She was an indie advice columnist who then wrote a raw and unflinching column about her struggles with alcoholism. It helped me really understand and get the desire that is so central to addiction.
I have been struggling with a very intense pain for the past couple of months related to discontinuing 2 meds. I've always had a very high pain tolerance, but now my pain response is totally blown. ...

Reason # 3,948,628 that I'm not a Catholic anymore...
Papal astronomers believe that aliens could exist and that some may be free from original sin. What's up with that? 30 years of Catholic guilt wasted. What are they going to say next, that Limbo doesn't exist? Oh wait they already did. Those wacky Catholics!
Here's the BBC article-

I don't think the original article is up in L'Osservatore Romano, but here's some detail from a Cat...

So I was sitting in the local body modification shop waiting to get a nose ring when I found this article in National Geographic.
Design by Nature
Burs on a dog's coat led to the invention of Velcro. That's an example of biomimetics—the young science of adapting designs from nature to solve modern problems. Now it may be coming of age...
