Stacy Pershall, a friend of mine, is making a cinema verite documentary entitled Better the Devil You Know with cinematographer Annie Waldman. Their plan is to teach adolescent girls in inpatient psych treatment facilities to shoot Super 8 film, and to include the girls' films with theirs. They are asking everyone they know to donate $1 to the cause. So today I was watching an Unmata vid and Tajah came to sit on my lap so she could watch too. She's all about sitting on me to use the computer for some reason. AND she keeps asking to make videos and say hi to my friends. I don't see what the draw of that is. Why is it fun to say "Hi whoever"? I have no clue. She asks me to make a video ALL THE TIME though, and that's what she wants to do at the end of all of them. So anyway I'm watching Unmata and she asks if they were the ones who were the horsies and when I said yes she asked where their tails were so of COURSE we then watch the pony play vid. She's in love with the Rama Lama song. Goofball kid. What is up with the heat, NC? Holy jeez it's hot. Plus I'm all burnt up on my backparts because I'm a moron and didn't put on enough sunscreen and now my back is hot pank.

Currently there's a kid behind me watching a Pixar movie and I want to take the dvd player (it's one of those portable ones) and SMASH IT AGAINST A FUCKIN' WALL. This would alarm the kid and hurt her feelings though, plus it's not my dvd player, so. Nope. I'm just edgy today. I think I might be ovulating. Actually yeah, I know I am. So that's always fun. Aren't you glad you read this far? Me too. I have a great big headache and everyone else gets to go to NM but me and IT'S NOT FAAIIIIIRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!! I did finish a bra today though, so. Yay. That makes 2. I have one more to work on. I'm gonna make some dreads in a couple of days too, so that's something. I guess I should get on the ball and braid that other batch of hair that I have (except that uh. where the hell is it? I haven't seen it in a good while. Hm.). ow my head.

I had to hem the stupid legs right-side out (or in or something that IS NOT THE WAY THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO GO) dammit. And Charlotteans (Charlotters?)-I'm totally visiting once I get Carl to send me the gothic DVD, which I forgot. And my bad ass bellydance shirt. So yeah, I'm here now. I'm enjoying it for the most part. I miss home AND MY DOGS and Carl but not to the point of being a freak about it. Yay Geodon I guess. I'm getting a lot of work done actually-it's surprising. This week I'm going to Hancock Fabric to look for something to make into a pair of pants. I want BREATHABLE fabric because it's hot as 7 hells here. And humid WHAT. I'm going to go downtown and dance with the locals on Friday so I need to get this costume put together. I guess I need to find something to make into a belt. Maybe I will just do a t-shirt belt or something, I don't know. I need a top too. I like the way Unmata did the tie things and actually that might be the easiest thing to do for a choli-type dealie that I can wear under a bra. Guess I should get started on that then...

New Hair

So I made dreads the day Mina died. Here they are. I'm getting ready for my performance on the 16th and I want my hair to look cute. Looks ok I guess. Or does it look ridiculously stupid? Is the big one too much? There are more pics in my photo section. This is just to catch your eye in the blog list. At least I have gigantic drag queen eyelashes I bought on the Haight before TF. I'm almost scared to wear them!

Mina died last night. I noticed she was groggy and disoriented yesterday after my appointment so I looked closer. Her membranes weren't pale, they were WHITE. She was cold and was having trouble breathing. I called my vet and after about 10 minutes of being on hold they said they couldn't see her and suggested one that was closer. I don't know if I'll be staying with them (and not just for this-more in a moment on that). So I called the vet down the street and they said to bring her in. By this time Mina couldn't (wouldn't?) stand. I grabbed her file and headed out. That vet is less than a mile away so I got there pretty quickly. They took her temp and immediately took her back for warming. I was disappointed with these guys too-they didn't really ask me anything or try to find out what was wrong with her. I was the one who brought up anaphylaxis, poisoning and everything else. Their response was "Well, yeah, it could be that..." or something similar. Why the hell was I doing their job? Medical history? Hello? The vet said it seemed like it was hemmorhagic enteritis and that most dogs react well to (something I forget that amounted to an IV and antibiotics). So eventually we got down to brass tacks and I told them my monetary cap and they IV'ed her and stuck her on some complicated warming thing (instead of the bear hugger thing). This morning the vet called and said she had died. They did a necropsy and she had a liver tumor. I kind of figured she had cancer when we got her, for some reason. I just knew. I thought I'd have more time than this though. At least I know it wasn't something idiotic like xylitol poisoning or some kind of injury (sometimes the other dogs would bowl her over trying to get in or out of the door). The vet said it wasn't anything we could have precipitated or fixed. I just wish I'd said goodbye to her last night when I was there. I really didn't think she'd die. She was such a sweet little girl. She had bloodwork done earlier this year. Or last year, whatever. Since August (we've only had her since August). How could they not find signs that she had cancer-or that SOMETHING was wrong? I'm seriously considering looking for a new vet.
