An I must say asking my self why I bother. I log on I check out others blogs leave a comment, post here and there. Yet I feel all alone in my little world of what feels like no one cares. I’m not trying to whine. Am I really this boring>>>

Drugged from birth

The federal government wants to perform mental health screening on infants and get them started on drugs which they will take for their entire lives, if the drugs don’t kill them first. And you’re going to pay for it, whether you want to or not.

Already, children as young as 3, who wind up in the foster care system, are receiving psychiatric drugs for such disorders as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder or depression, with over 60% of foster children in Texas, nearly two-thirds in Massachusetts, and 55% of foster children in Florida on as many as 16 different psychiatric drugs.

Where did the drive to medicate every child in the United States begin?

It began in Texas, with the Texas Medication Algorithm Project, an effort to create “one size fits all” treatment for schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and depression.

The Association of American Physicians and Surgeons says that the “TMAP algorithm guidelines for psychotropic drugs are not backed by scientific evidence, but rather on self-interested opinion. Indeed the scientific evidence contradicts all claims made about the superiority of the drugs recommended by TMAP as first line treatment — these drugs have not been shown to be either more effective or safer than non-drug interventions or existing, cheaper, old drugs. TMAP guidelines were formulated by a consensus panel whose opinions were solicited by pharmaceutical companies that sponsored TMAP. The TMAP formularies recommend the drugs manufactured by those companies that are all on patent, very expensive, and have no better safety or effectiveness profiles than older, cheaper drugs that themselves are not very safe or effective.”

Yet under programs being pushed by a little-known federal government agency, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, the discredited TMAP algorithms, originally designed for adults, would be used on children.

In SAMHSA’s Action Agenda, based on current Bush administration policy, the government wants to “fundamentally alter the form and function of the mental health service delivery system in this country” by implementing the recommendations of the President’s New Freedom Commission on Mental Health.

One of these programs, which is already in operation, is Foundations for Learning, which was added into the No Child Left Behind Act at the last minute by the conference committee. According to Dr. Karen R. Effrem, of the International Center for the Study of Psychiatry and Psychology, it “provides federal funds in the form of grants to states and other agencies to provide preschool screening, parent education, social services, home visits, transportation and curriculum to support ’social and emotional development’” for children from birth to age 7. A child can receive these services if the child has been removed from child care, Head Start or similar programs for behavioral problems, or is at risk of being removed from such programs, or if one of the child’s parents has depression or another mental illness.

“The criteria for diagnosing mental disorders are very vague in general, but are extremely vague and inaccurate for children,” Effrem wrote. “These grants will further subsidize the labeling and drugging of an alarmingly large population of young children with potent medications that have not been studied in that age group.”

Oh, and there’s one other little point. “The federal government has no constitutional authority to be involved in mental health and early childhood issues and the record of success of these types of programs is abysmal.”

The NFC recommendations include a wide variety of mental health programs targeted at children as young as age 3, and early intervention for some children from birth.

Michael Ostrolenk, a licensed psychotherapist and public policy consultant who founded the Medical Privacy Coalition, wrote, “Their influence [of the mental health establishment over government] causes our children to be labeled in infancy, and it creates a never-ending market for psychiatric drugs. The long term effects of these drugs on the brains of our children are unknown. They also create a market for other drugs used to treat the chronic side effects like obesity and diabetes, and they will be needed throughout the lives of those affected, enhancing drug company profits while bankrupting taxpayer funded programs. As these programs multiply, the use of politically motivated labeling and drugging for children who do not comply with the indoctrination of the federal curriculum will increase. Brave New World will appear less and less like fiction unless these programs are stopped.”

It appears that dumbing down the schools wasn’t enough to get everyone in America to be conforming, subservient little sheep. Now they want to drug all of our children into submission. Baa.

If your Life-Path number is ELEVEN, yours is a Master Vibration number associated with spiritual awareness. Master Vibration people tend to possess an understanding and knowledge beyond others. As an ELEVEN, you are thought of as being on a higher spiritual plane.

ELEVENS tend to be very interesting people with much to offer those around them. They are intuitive, avant-garde, idealistic and cultured – extremely so. They are the visionaries. It’s common to find an ELEVEN looking for understanding in life’s mysteries. Their interests will be many. Socially, connections with others are highly developed. ELEVENS bring much to the topic of conversation and are excellent listeners.

An ELEVEN will expect much from themselves and from others. At times this can make them difficult to deal with. It’s common for this Life-Path to have a lot of nervous tension. There can be mood swings and challenges with focus on ambition. At times actions can be impractical, as an ELEVEN is more of a dreamer than a doer. Key words/qualities associated with an ELEVEN Life-Path are higher spiritual plane, intuitive, illumination, idealistic and a dreamer.

The life purpose for an ELEVEN is to utilize innate skills of counseling and guidance. While you may not be a leader, much talent can show through in this area. Finding ways to release nervous energy such as sports and exercise can bring much relief during difficult times.

<div>GEOGRAPHY OF A WOMAN
>
> Between 18 and 22, a woman is like Africa; half
> discovered, half wild, naturally beautiful with
> fertile soil.
>
> Between 23 and 30, a woman is like America; well
> developed and open to trade, especially for someone
> with cash.
>
> Between 31 and 35, a woman is like India; very hot,
> relaxed and convinced of her own beauty.
>
> Between 36 and 40, a woman is like France; gently
> aging but still warm, and a desirable place to
> visit.
>
> Between 41 and 50, a woman is like Great Britain;
> with a glorious and all conquering past.
>
> Between 51 and 60, a woman is like Yugoslavia; lost
> the war and haunted by past mistakes.
>
> Between 61 and 70, a woman is like Russia; very
> wide, and borders are now unpatrolled.
>
>
> After 70, she becomes Tibet. Wildly beautiful, with
> a mysterious past and the wisdom of the ages....only
> those with an adventurous spirit and a thirst for
> spiritual knowledge visit there.
>
> GEOGRAPHY OF A MAN
>
> Between 1 and 70, a man is like Iraq, ruled by a dick</div>

I am ashamed. I am ashamed of this President. Aren't you? After watching his press conference today, a sense of shame overtook me. I'm ashamed that he took to the podium today as if he emptied out a container of laughing gas. I'm ashamed of a President who has the temerity to laugh when asked a question about war. I'm ashamed of the whores of the fourth estate who care more about having the honor of being the butt of one of the President's jokes than about exposing the truth to the American people. I'm ashamed that millions of my fellow Americans are so scared and so desperate for leadership that they believe the President's bullshit.

I am ashamed. I'm ashamed of this President, this megalomaniac hellbent on leaving his assprint on the map of the Middle East, no matter how much destruction is wrought and no matter how much blood flows in the streets of lands that never threatened us. I'm ashamed that when I see the American flag waiving, images of flag-draped coffins flash in my mind. I'm ashamed of Freedom's March. Ashamed when I see villages reduced to rubble. Ashamed when I see the tiny little corpses. God, they're so painfully tiny--lined up in a row, little angels wrapped in colorful blankets that starkly contrast against their gray-tinged faces. Ashamed when I see wailing Iraqis slam their hands against plain, unvarnished coffins, over and over, asking "Why? Is this democracy? Why?" When I see those image of funerals, of broken families, I want to crawl into my TV, I want to go to them and grab their slumped shoulders and scream "I'm sorry, good god, I'm so sorry. I want to leave, I want us to leave, believe me. But they won't listen...No one listens anymore."

I'm ashamed that the word "massacre" is even uttered in connection with our actions in Iraq. I'm ashamed it's not just one massacre that is alleged, but two. I'm ashamed it's gotten to the point that I can't even tell this little voice inside of me to shut up, that little voice that says maybe, just maybe it could be true. That the impossible may be plausible. Before this war, I would have rejected such claims outright. But that voice of plausibility is the consequence of those black hoods. It's the consequence of those leashes, those snarling dogs. It's the consequence of those detainees chained to bedframes. Of naked pyramids. Of forced sex acts. Of beatings and blood-streaked floors.

I am ashamed. Ashamed that Justice is no longer blindfolded, but gagged. Ashamed that in America, in AMERICA, I can only protest in "free speech zones" the size of postage stamps. Ashamed that by the time I'll take my oath as an officer of the court to support the Constitution, I'll be swearing to uphold a tattered document that has managed to survive over 200 years only to be shredded by this President in less than eight.

I am ashamed. Ashamed that in America, I see bearded men panhandling in the street, holding cardboard signs that read "U.S. Vet, can't work, need food. God bless." Ashamed that somewhere, in our America, a grandmother is sitting alone at her kitchen table, crumpled bills clutched in her thin hands, agonizing over the choice before her: medicine for her pain, or food to keep on living. Ashamed that there is a child who will go to sleep tonight on a cot in an orphanage, with no one to read him a story, no one to stroke his hair and kiss him goodnight, because the American Taliban thinks gay Americans can't love, can't parent, can't provide.

I am ashamed of my fellow Americans. Ashamed that they haven't flooded the streets. Ashamed they care more about Brangelina than the Bill of Rights. Ashamed that they're seemingly ok with the subtle but steady transformation from democracy to dictatorship. Ashamed that they are so gullible.

I am ashamed of myself. For not having the courage or the strength to do anything else but sit here and blog. I write. I protest. I vote. And yet, I'm impotent. Stuck in a unrelenting cycle of hope and despair and hope and despair. What a curse it is to be 23 and want to change the world. What a curse to be so disillusioned so early in life. What a curse to want to change a world that will not change...that cannot change? That cannot change as long as we sit and wait for others to change it. That cannot change as long as our elected Democrats refuse to take a principled stand. That cannot change until they--until we--appreciate the gravity of the situation before us: we are losing America.

This is not America. I refuse to accept it. America doesn't torture. America doesn't jail people incommunicado for years. America doesn't sit idly by as an entire people are exterminated in Darfur. America doesn't stifle science. America doesn't conduct massive, secret spying on innocent citizens. America doesn't believe the individual is an annoyance, an impediment to supreme government power. This isn't the greatest democracy on earth. This isn't the nation that pioneered human rights. This isn't the America that leads the world, that leads humanity towards a greater good. No, I refuse to accept this America of shame. This is not my America. It is an America perverted by Republican stewardship. A nation that under GOP rule has abandoned its founding ideals of freedom, liberty, and justice for all. True Americans--coast to coast, young and old--now bow their heads silently in collective shame for a nation that has lost its way.

The Global Finance Campaign is exploring ways to reconcile the existing economy with the real limits of the Earth’s ecology. Rainforest Action Network, together with allies and activists around the world, works to redirect the global economic system away from environmentally and socially destructive activities and into clean, sustainable, and socially just alternatives. The real threats of forest destruction, species extinction, and climate destabilization create an imperative for concerned citizens to demand an end to destructive investments from the world’s largest financial institutions and help to chart a new course towards a sane and sustainable global economy.

There are already signs of hope! After years of grassroots activism and campaigning by countless volunteers, America’s three largest banks, Citigroup, Bank of America, and JPMorgan Chase, have all adopted policies that safeguard old growth and endangered forests, curb investments in climate change, and protect the rights of indigenous peoples. These new standards are important steps forward in our work to bring about a sustainable economy, but many companies are still lagging. Our task is now three-fold: First, we must hold companies like Citigroup, Bank of America, and JPMorgan Chase accountable to their commitments, ensuring that their policies are fully implemented and translate into real changes. Second, we must help the rest of the financial industry move even further towards creating a world that is responsible, sustainable, and socially just. Finally, we must support the efforts of the countless individuals around the world who are creating alternative institutions that are able to reflect the diverse needs of local communities.

And with your help, we will!

Ritalin's dangerous side effects

<div>Ritalin's dangerous side effects
Re the Feb. 10 story Panel wants stronger warnings on Ritalin: If this medication has been found to have caused 25 deaths, 19 of them children, then why isn't it being withdrawn from the market? I am upset that the Food and Drug Administration is only putting a black-box warning on the label.

The use of Ritalin is so prevalent that too many of us have become conditioned to believe that the benefits of drugging our children to control attention-deficit disorder and attention-deficit hyperactive disorder is in their best interest and outweighs side effects. It now is common to administer Ritalin to children who have any behavioral issues at all -- including some that are not associated with ADD/ADHD.

Additional warnings will not lead physicians or parents to more carefully consider Ritalin's risks, even if possible death is one of them.

My son was on Metadate, a form of Ritalin, for two years. I went against mainstream thinking and decided that anorexia, moodiness, sleeplessness, obsessive-compulsive issues, headaches and heart palpitations no longer were acceptable side effects. How can parents, medical professionals and educators think that it is OK if our children's growth is stunted for a few years as a result of these medications? When will we demand a safer alternative?

We should be able to trust that the FDA is acting as a safety net for the public. I'm sure it is difficult to say No to the drug companies that have made ADD/ADHD a billion-dollar business. But when is it going to step up and do the right thing for our children?

<div>For as long as psychiatry as a whole cannot distinguish between mental deterioration and natural emotional responses to life crises, the brokenhearted remain at risk of medical assault. This is doubly true for those of us experiencing the "holy madness" of spiritual awakening. Psychiatry mistakenly lumps together those suffering from life's many blows with those who are overwhelmed by spiritual awakening.

<div>Manure: In the 16th and 17th centuries, everything had to be transported by ship and it was also before commercial fertilizer's invention, so large shipments of manure were common.

It was shipped dry, because in dry form it weighed a lot less than when wet, but once water (at sea) hit it, it not only became heavier, but the process of fermentation began again, of which a by product is methane gas. As the stuff was stored below decks in bundles you can see what could (and did) happen.

Methane began to build up below decks and the first time someone came below at night with a lantern, BOOOOM!

Several ships were destroyed in this manner before it was determined just what was happening.

After that, the bundles of manure were always stamped with the term "Ship High In Transit" on them, which meant for the sailors to stow it high enough off the lower decks so that any water that came into the hold would not touch this volatile cargo and start the production of methane.

Thus evolved the term "S.H.I.T " , (Ship High In Transport) which has come down through the centuries and is in use to this very day.

You probably did not know the true history of this word.

Neither did I.

I had always thought it was a golf term.

OVARIAN CANCER- it's long but please read..............

<div>It really doesn’t hurt to keep up on things like this…you never know when it might help you!

Subject: SIGNS OF OVARIAN CANCER (even in the absence of Ovaries) THIS IS A MUST TO READ TO THE END

An Eye Opener on Ovarian Cancer

I hope you all take the time to read this and pass it on to all you can. Send this to the women in your life that you care about.

Years ago, Gilda Radner died of ovarian cancer. Her symptoms were inconclusive, and she was treated for everything under the sun until it was too late. This blood test finally identified her illness but alas, too late. She wrote a book to heighten awareness. Gene Wilder is her widower.

KATHY'S STORY: this is the story of Kathy West

As all of you know, I have Primary Peritoneal Cancer. This cancer has only recently been identified as its OWN type of cancer, but it is essentially Ovarian Cancer.

Both types of cancer are diagnosed in the same way, with the "tumor marker" CA-125 BLOOD TEST, and they are treated in the same way - surgery to remove the primary tumor and then chemotherapy with Taxol and Carboplatin.

Having gone through this ordeal, I want to save others from the same fate. That is why I am sending this message to you and hope you will print it and give it or send it via E-mail to everybody you know.

One thing I have learned is that each of us must take TOTAL responsibility for our own health care. I thought I had done that because I always had an annual physical and PAP smear, did a monthly Self-Breast Exam, went to the dentist at least twice a year, etc. I even insisted on a sigmoidoscopy and a bone density test last year. When I had a total hysterectomy in 1993, I thought that I did not have to worry about getting any of the female reproductive organ cancers.

LITTLE DID I KNOW. I don't have ovaries (and they were HEALTHY when they were removed), but I have what is essentially ovarian cancer. Strange, isn't it?

These are just SOME of the things our Doctors never tell us: ONE out of every 55 women will get OVARIAN or PRIMARY PERITONEAL CANCER.

The "CLASSIC" symptoms are an ABDOMEN that rather SUDDENLY ENLARGES and CONSTIPATION and/or DIARRHEA.

I had these classic symptoms and went to the doctor. Because these symptoms seemed to be "abdominal", I went to a gastroenterologist. He ran tests that were designed to determine whether there was a bacteria infection; these tests were negative, and I was diagnosed with "Irritable Bowel Syndrome". I guess I would have accepted this diagnosis had it not been for my enlarged abdomen. I swear to you, it looked like I was 4-5 months pregnant! I therefore insisted on more tests

They took an X-ray of my abdomen; it was negative. I was again assured that I had Irritable Bowel Syndrome and was encouraged to go on my scheduled month-long trip to Europe. I couldn't wear any of my slacks or shorts because I couldn't get them buttoned, and I KNEW something was radically wrong. I INSISTED on more tests, and they reluctantly) scheduled me for a CT-Scan (just to shut me up, I think). This is what I mean by "taking charge of our own health care."

The CT-Scan showed a lot of fluid in my abdomen (NOT normal). Needless to say, I had to cancel my trip and have FIVE POUNDS of fluid drawn off at the hospital (not a pleasant experience I assure you), but NOTHING compared to what was ahead of me.

Tests revealed cancer cells in the fluid. Finally, finally, finally, the doctor ran a CA-125 blood test, and I was properly diagnosed.

I HAD THE CLASSIC SYMPTOMS FOR OVARIAN CANCER, AND YET THIS SIMPLE CA-125 BLOOD TEST HAD NEVER BEEN RUN ON ME, not as part of my annual physical exam and not when I was symptomatic. This is an inexpensive and simple blood test!

PLEASE, PLEASE TELL ALL YOUR FEMALE FRIENDS AND RELATIVES TO INSIST ON A CA-125 BLOOD TEST EVERY YEAR AS PART OF THEIR ANNUAL PHYSICAL EXAMS.

Be forewarned that their doctors might try to talk them out of it, saying, "IT ISN'T NECESSARY." Believe me, had I known then what I know now, we would have caught my cancer much earlier (before it was a stage 3 cancer). Insist on the CA-125 BLOOD TEST; DO NOT take "NO" for an answer!

The normal range for a CA-125 BLOOD TEST is between zero and 35. MINE WAS 754. (That's right, 754!). If the number is slightly above 35, you can have another done in three or six months and keep a close eye on it, just as women do when they have fibroid tumors or when men have a slightly elevated PSA test (Prostatic Specific Antigens) that helps diagnose prostate cancer.

Having the CA-125 test done annually can alert you early, and that's the goal in diagnosing any type of cancer - catching it early.

Do you know 55 women? If so, at least one of them will have this VERY AGGRESSIVE cancer. Please, go to your doctor and insist on a CA-125 test and have one EVERY YEAR for the rest of your life.

And forward this message to every woman you know, and tell all of your female family members and friends. Though the median age for this cancer is 56, (and, guess what, I'm exactly 56), women as young as 22 have it. Age is no factor.

A NOTE FROM THE RN:

Well, after reading this, I made some calls. I found that the CA-125 test is an ovarian screening test equivalent to a man's PSA test prostate screen (which my husband's doctor automatically gives him in his physical each year and insurance pays for it). I called the general practitioner's office about having the test done. The nurse had never heard of it. She told me that she doubted that insurance would pay for it. So I called Prudential Insurance Co, and got the same response. Never heard of it - it won't be covered.

I explained that it was the same as the PSA test they had paid for my husband for years. After conferring with whomever they confer with, she told me that the CA-125 would be covered.

It is $75 in a GP's office and $125 at the GYN's. This is a screening test that should be required just like a PAP smear (a PAP smear cannot detect problems with your ovaries). And you must insist that your insurance company pay for it.

Gene Wilder and Pierce Brosnan (his wife had it, too) are lobbying for women's health issues, saying that this test should be required in our physicals, just like the PAP and the mammogram. PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT TO SEND THIS OUT TO ALL THOSE YOU CAN. BE IT MALE OR FEMALE, IT SHOULD NOT MATTER, AS THEY CAN FORWARD IT ALSO TO THOSE LOVED ONES THEY KNOW.

IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH FORWARDING SOMETHING AS IMPORTANT AS THIS, HERE'S A LITTLE HINT THAT MAY ASSIST YOU WITH YOUR DECISION ~ JUST PRETEND THAT THIS IS A JOKE, WHICH IT CERTAINLY IS NOT, AND SEND IT OUT TO ALL THE FOLKS YOU WOULD IF IT WAS. THANKS. </div>

<div>I'm inside out over this, like most hard working Americans I'm in debt and sick over it. I have tried work at home buy in's, which didn't work, I've paid to have others do the work (debt repair) thing for me. which came off all wrong, and was a waste of time and cash I really need.

I makes me sick to watch the news. Large corperations are "getting paid to file BK" mean while I'm truned away at every turn for loans. An with the new laws in place it would cost more for me to file 7,11, or 13 then it's worth. This sucks...

Maybe the real reason I'm so up tight has more to do with school and work than bills. It just seems to be at the top of the list. I want a break I can't afford to take. I want to get paid to get by. But hell who doesn't? I make good money....Yet the bill collectors that hunt my days and my sleep don't belive me. I don't belive me. I'm so like ready to run away, No computer, cell, email, or any thing else.

Can you believe that it's been 17 years and ExxonMobil still hasn't paid the money it owes to the Alaskan communities devastated by the Exxon Valdez oil spill?!

Please join us today, Friday, March 24th, in commemorating the 17th anniversary of the Exxon Valdez oil spill by calling ExxonMobil to demand payment for the spill victims!

It will only take two minutes to call - just dial 1-972-444-1000. Click here for talking points you can use in your call!

Twelve years of legal appeals by a battalion of ExxonMobil lawyers has added salt to the wounds of the 30,000 fishermen, Native Alaskans and others who suffered not just health and financial losses but also witnessed the death and maiming of thousands of oil coated seabirds, bald eagles, sea otters, seals and orca whales.

Billions of salmon and herring eggs were destroyed and like many of the species, have yet to recover. Bob Van Brocklin, generational fisherman and then-mayor of the hard hit town of Cordova, took his own life after four years of watching the ecological and financial wreckage and going into bankruptcy himself.

Please join us in commemorating this environmental travesty on Friday March 24, 2006.

Call 1-972-444-1000 and tell ExxonMobil that, after 17 years, it’s time to settle up with the community it harmed. Click here for talking points for your call.

Once you've hung up, please click here to report back to us on how your call went.

In 1994 a U.S. District Court held Exxon accountable for $5.3 billion in punitive damages for recklessness, an award that dropped only slightly to $4.5 billion after two fierce appeals. Meanwhile, 3,000 plaintiffs have died while waiting for compensation and ExxonMobil has become the nation’s most profitable company, raking in a record $36 billion in profits in 2005.

The courts, the media and the public are weary with ExxonMobil’s foot dragging tactics. Let YOUR call be the final straw that pushes the company to pay the debt it owes to the Alaskan communities devastated by the Exxon Valdez oil spill.

Don't forget to let us know how your call went - click here to report back to us once you've hung up.

Please forward this message to your friends and family and ask them to join you in holding ExxonMobil accountable for the Exxon Valdez oil spill.

Thanks for your help.

>12 Steps to Get U.S. Off Oil

A 12-Step Program to Break America’s Oil Addiction
by Michael Brune, Rainforest Action Network

Our President almost came clean in his State of the Union Speech on Tuesday night when he finally admitted that “America is addicted to oil”. Two years ago, deep in the Amazon jungle, I heard a similar analysis from a leader of the Kichwa Nation, an indigenous community in southern Ecuador. “Our people will never be free as long as your country drinks oil like it is water,” she told me. “Until you stop, we will never truly be free.” She was speaking of how oil exploitation threatened the traditional lifestyle of the native community, but she may have been speaking of America itself: our oil addiction threatens our national security, our environmental health, and our way of life.

It is true that our leaders are exhibiting the classic signs of an addiction – denial, aggression, avoidance, blaming others – and as a country we are falling far short of reaching our full potential. America is a country that liberated Europe from Nazi fascism, invented rock and roll, put a man on the moon, and mapped the human genome, yet our stubborn dependence on oil erodes bedrock American values. For it, we will go to war, support unstable and undemocratic regimes, destabilize our climate, decimate our forests and parks, threaten the health of our children, and weaken our economy.

The President admitted to a national problem, but stopped well short of committing our country to a full recovery program. We already have the technology. What we desperately need is the courage to act now. Our leaders – government and corporate – have demonstrated a clear lack of leadership and political will to meet this challenge. It is time for nothing short of a national intervention, and a 12-step program to break America’s oil addiction. Here’s how it works:

Step one – Let’s admit that we have a problem, and commit deeply and truthfully to a national recovery program to break our oil addiction. Our country, and the world, deserves better. Transitioning to a clean energy economy will create millions of clean jobs; clean our air; protect our water supplies, our forests, and our climate; and will help to build a safer and more secure world for us all. But breaking our addiction requires humility and an unwavering commitment to change at every level of society. No one gets a free ride anymore, especially the world’s richest energy companies.

Step two –Separate Oil and State. Every year, oil companies continue to “invest” millions of dollars in political candidates at every level of the U.S. government. In turn, elected officials dole out more than $20 billion a year to prop up fossil fuel projects internationally.

One of the first steps to ending our collective addiction to oil is to reduce the oil industry’s influence over public governance, and to eliminate government handouts for dirty oil.

Step three through six – Jump-start Detroit and redesign American mobility. The transportation sector accounts for more than two-thirds of all oil consumption in the U.S.

Our passenger train system scrounges for funding in Washington while one out of every seven barrels of oil in the world is consumed on America’s highways alone. Led by Ford Motor Company, the American automobile industry is driving in reverse. The average Ford vehicle gets worse gas mileage than the Model T did almost one hundred years ago.

Thomas Friedman is right – the stability and very existence of the American automotive industry depends upon American automakers building affordable, fuel-efficient cars that all patriotic Americans can support. Pioneering engineers have already built Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) and new companies are inventing super-efficient biofuels made from agricultural waste with no help from Detroit or Washington.

Steps seven and eight – Start a rooftop revolution and green the grid. California is enacting regulations to build one million homes with rooftop solar power, generating 3000 megawatts of power. Studies show that solar energy supports up to ten times more jobs than dirty fossil fuel energy. A green grid powered by the wind and the sun can recharge car batteries and help us kick our transportation oil habit.

Steps nine and ten– Wean to Green and Fund the Future. Simply put, follow the money. Capital investment from the world’s largest banks is the fuel in the engine, so to speak, of the oil-based economy. Through their investment decisions, large banks can either help to keep us hooked on oil, or rapidly steer us towards a clean energy future. Multinational private banks must publish full accounting for their contributions to climate change – and commit to reduce their environmental footprint — or they will continue to be part of the problem, not part of the solution. Some banks, including Wall Street powerhouse Goldman Sachs, are leading the way, proving that it is indeed possible to do well by doing good.

Step eleven – Adopt a “Low-Carb” Energy Diet – Any comprehensive strategy to break our oil addiction must include aggressive measures to reduce energy consumption. A low-carbon energy diet will reduce energy costs and increase competitiveness for American businesses, lower emissions, and produce clean jobs for workers. Efficiency improvements in the last thirty years have doubled the amount of work we get from each barrel of oil. According to the Rocky Mountain Institute, current proven technologies can double oil efficiency again, for less money than would be required to buy the oil we save.

Step twelve – vote. Could it be any clearer that we need responsible and visionary leaders at all levels of government?

Like a smoker who says he’s going to quit someday even as he lights up another cigarette, the President offered little hope that he would actually break our country’s oil addiction.

For a country that uses enough oil to fill a football field 2500 ft tall every day, it will take a lot more than a speech and a few research dollars to set us free from oil. Freedom from oil will help our nation to create clean jobs, protect forests, make our foreign policy more just and more effective, and help to stabilize our climate. Let’s get to work.

Tell me when this is all over. I feel helpless.</div>

SHE STOOD IN A SHADOWED DOORWAY

by Robert Davidson

She stood in a shadowed doorway
Awaiting the appointed time of delight
Eyes mocking love as
Lips of lust gleam in a moon-blanched night.

She stood in a shadowed doorway
When I shattered the dark with a light
Claiming a fierce kiss on
The porcelain pallor of a face so white.

She stood in a shadowed doorway
The touch of her body against mine stuns
As our sexes meet
Vaster than explosions of burst suns.

Our lone paths cross, then are blown apart forever
As I got what I wanted, and she her cash did recover.
The scowl of pleasure's lips now scorn me ever
Point down to the pit, mocking this sated lover.

She stood in a shadowed doorway
Her look of reproach unnerves, conceives
A cool challenge while
My lust blew away like dead winter leaves.

<div> I'm ready to take a break and I just got started! Maybe it's the long commute I take from my apt to work, then back home, then to school, and home again for a lite nap befor returning to work! Maybe I'm trying to decide wheather 2 freak out over needing a roomie or not. I have a 256 hour UN-PAID internship to complete in the fall of 2006! Cash will be tight... I know I come up with something....???

I'm staring straight ahead looking at the end of the years and my eyes fill with water! This is the closest Ive ever been to completing my schooling. An even with bills, an all drama of school and work I feel like I can't let go, I can't fully unwind or relax. I have get this done. I need the change.

It's so quite where I am now, if I were a little more comfortable I could fall asleep. I thoughts are like rain rite now, they are washing one into the next. I have taken the express lane. Now I need to barrow the brake! </div>
