COMING ATTRACTIONS TRAILER NIGHT, Summer 2009

<a href="http://people.tribe.net/ky/blog/a49c3b6b-3fc2-46d8-9db2-cd82c0b1c33f">  						          <img class=" picThumb" src="http://images.tribe.net/tribe/upload/photo/ac1/487/ac14872b-9802-460e-a911-8fce714243a8.thumb" width="65" height="10" alt="" />
    </a>
										<div>They’re here! Summer movies: curtain up, lower the lights! Washington, D.C. Film Society’s “COMING ATTRACTIONS TRAILER NIGHT, Summer 2009” highlights the blockbuster season’s offerings. D.C. Film Society Director Michael Kyrioglou said once again you will be able to catch previews of summer’s hits-to-be in the cool comfort of Landmark’s E Street Cinema (E Street between 10th &amp; 11th St., N.W.). It all starts at 7 p.m., Tuesday, May 19, 2009.

So you think you know Hollywood? Trade tidbits about the film studios’ plans with local film critics, Joe Barber and Bill Henry, as they relate stories of how the studios hope to entertain the summer masses. Back by popular demand, attendees can vote on the films they gotta see (or wanna avoid); we’ll pass this information on to the studios. Summertime is the studios’ Black Friday season. Which will make you spend your hard-earned dollars and stand in line?

Some of the trailers that we hope to show may include: Tom Hanks returns in The DaVinci Code “pre-quel” Angels &amp; Demons; Adrien Brody, Mark Ruffalo and Rachel Weisz combine in a tale of worldly swindlers, The Brothers Bloom. Can you stand another Sacha Baron Cohen incarnation? You might see him as Bruno, a gay man who purposely taunts foreign heterosexual men. If you missed it at film festivals, including the opening film of Filmfest DC, check out the preview for Departures, last year’s Oscar-winning foreign film. Maybe Judd Apatow’s latest offering with Adam Sandler as a terminally-ill comedian with Seth Rogan as his sidekick in Funny People. Here’s looking at Meryl Streep as Julia Child and Amy Adams as her wanna-be in Julie &amp; Julia. Summer demands scary prehistoric monsters and Hollywood won’t disappoint this summer with Will Farrell in Land of the Lost. Ben Stiller returns in Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian with Robin Williams, so you know that hijinks will ensue. How about Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen? Or *sigh* Johnny Depp as John Dillinger and Christian Bale as Melvin Purvis in Michael Mann’s Public Enemies. Dreamy Denzel Washington returns to the big screen in the remake of Taking of the Pelham 1 2 3. How about another Taking Woodstock, the true story behind Woodstock? Or Christian Bale in the new Terminator: Salvation. Finally, a summer romance: The Time Traveler’s Wife. Other secret trailers will entice you!

For only $8, you get lots of movie promotional items, movie posters, raffles of movie tickets and DVDs as well as the trailers! This twice-annual event is unique to D.C. For more information and an update on trailers to be shown at “COMING ATTRACTIONS TRAILER NIGHT” visit http://www.dcfilmsociety.org or email info@dcfilmsociety.org.

“COMING ATTRACTIONS TRAILER NIGHT, WINTER 2008” --
COOL TEMPERATURES, HOT FILMS SIZZLE ON SCREEN

Washington, D.C.: It’s time for the final parade of Oscar contenders, plus a spectrum of action, comedy, drama, romance, and comic/superhero films. Come in from the cold, grab that significant other, get cozy, and check out what’s going to heat up the screen. Michael Kyrioglou, director of the Washington, D.C. Film Society, announces this early preview of Hollywood’s winter lineup at the group’s twice annual “COMING ATTRACTIONS TRAILER NIGHT, Winter 2008.” Be among the first to view the season’s hottest trailers with fellow film fans at 7 p.m., Wednesday, November 12, at Landmark’s E Street Cinema (E Street between 10th &amp; 11th St., N.W.).

Kyrioglou says that, once again, you’ll get to be the judge of the film studios’ marketing skills by joining local film critics, Joe Barber and Bill Henry, as they dissect each trailer in a no-holds-barred give and take. PLUS, attendees get to vote on the films they’re most looking forward to (or not) and we pass this information on to the studios. Summertime box office lived up to the hype. What’s on the A-list for this season? You decide if the buzz is believable as you choose your favorites.

Here’s what you might see: Daniel Craig as Bond is back for revenge, and badder than ever in Quantum of Solace. Romantic comedy Four Christmases pairs Reese Witherspoon with Vince Vaughn. Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson star in the screen adaptation of Twilight. Baz Luhrmann’s sweeping epic, Australia, unites Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman in the Outback while Revolutionary Road reunites Titanic’s Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. Not to be confused with The Road, based on the novel by Cormac McCarthy, with Viggo Mortensen and Kodi Smit-McPhee in a father and son, post-apocalypse survival story. Other adaptations include Broadway's Doubt, based on the Pulitzer-prize winning play, with Meryl Streep, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Amy Adams, Frost/Nixon about the David Frost TV interviews with Richard Nixon, F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Curious Case of Benjamin Button with Brad Pitt, Tilda Swinton, and Cate Blanchett, and Frank Miller’s The Spirit featuring Gabriel Macht as a dead policeman returning to fight evil. We also might feature The Soloist with Jamie Foxx and Robert Downey, Jr., Milk with Sean Penn as San Francisco politician Harvey Milk, Keanu Reeves in a remake of the 1951 sci-fi classic, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Jim Carrey in Yes Man, Crossing Over with Harrison Ford, Ray Liotta, and Sean Penn, Bolt, about a dog that thinks he has superpowers, animated sequel Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, and the hardest working man in show business, Samuel L. Jackson, joins the late Bernie Mac and the late Isaac Hayes in Soul Men.

The evening, bargain priced at $8, includes lots of movie promotional items, movie posters, and raffles of movie tickets and DVDs. This event is like no other. For more information and an update on trailers to be shown at “COMING ATTRACTIONS TRAILER NIGHT” visit www.dcfilmsociety.org or email info@dcfilmsociety.org.

    </a>
										<div>SEASON’S GREETINGS FROM HOLLYWOOD --
“COMING ATTRACTIONS TRAILER NIGHT” IS COMING AT YOU

Washington, D.C.: What do a murderous barber, a playboy congressman, two kids trying to survive war-torn Afghanistan, and a magical toy store have in common? They’re all part of the mix of films coming to a theater near you this holiday season. You’ll get a sneak preview of these and many more at the Washington, D.C. Film Society’s “COMING ATTRACTIONS TRAILER NIGHT, Winter 2007.” It all starts at 7 p.m., Wednesday, November 14, at Landmark’s E Street Cinema (E Street between 10th &amp; 11th St, N.W.).

Once again, you’ll get to be the judge of the film studios’ marketing skills by joining local film critics, Joe Barber and Bill Henry, in a dissection and no-holds-barred give and take of each trailer. PLUS, attendees get to vote on the films they’re most looking forward to (or not) and we pass this information on to the studios. This time of year is the stretch drive for the ’08 award season as the film industry likes to save its best for last and this year’s holiday stocking is an interesting grab bag with unusual star turns.

There’s Tom Hanks starring in Charlie Wilson’s War, about a Texas congressman best known for his enjoyment of the good life (hence his nickname “Goodtime Charlie Wilson”); Afghanistan gets a completely different look in the adaptation of the best-selling novel The Kite Runner; Johnny Depp meets Stephen Sondheim in the movie version of the powerful Broadway musical Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (far from a heartwarming Christmas tale); Nick Cage discovers conspiracies that make Oliver Stone’s theories look like child’s play in National Treasure: Book of Secrets; Sir Anthony Hopkins tackles that famous English epic poem we all were forced to read in school, in Beowulf; Stephen King’s back with The Mist; while on a lighter note, Dustin Hoffman has a field day playing the owner of a magical toy store in Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium; and Nicole Kidman is featured in two films, The Golden Compass and Margot at the Wedding. AND THAT’S ONLY A SAMPLE OF WHAT WE HOPE TO FEATURE (up to 30 trailers will be shown).

The evening, bargain priced at $8, includes lots of movie promotional items, movie posters, and raffles of movie tickets and DVDs. This twice-annual event is like no other. For more information and an update on trailers to be shown at “COMING ATTRACTIONS TRAILER NIGHT” visit www.dcfilmsociety.org or email info@dcfilmsociety.org.

<div>So Jester Jaimi has just arrived at my home in MD outside DC. Actually, he just left. I sent him to the hardware and grocery stores while I pack.

We're on our way to represent Disorie7t at Transformus. We're hosted by the fine folks from Bubble Camp in Eden. Imagine that, Bubble Camp! What a match!

Somehow, they ended up inviting us -- or maybe we offered -- to build what's grown into a lil' Disorie7t theme (sub-)camp.

Look for some of the usual GlamTech staples:

Subway: Take the 1 or 9 Downtown to Rector St. You can get from the Rector St. subway exit to the Pussycat in about three strides. You could also Take the 4 or the 5 Downtown to Wall Street. Or take the N or the R to Downtown Rector. just south of Ground Zero...

Storm: "Announcing a SMART PEOPLE HAVE FEELINGS TOO-night: Storm's 1st New York SPHAFTOON ever! I am curating the whole evening myself, so this will be a La Mama-style whole-art experience, featuring artists and poets and fellow musicians that I know and love. Bring broken and/or open hearts! A festive evening of music, art, poetry and freedom from the mainstream. Plus: random distribution of prose, poems, propaganda, and origami paper and there are strippers downstairs...eh oui...c'est la vie...

Pay what you can! ($10 suggested donation, but really, whatever you think is fair, even if that's three pennies, helps to pay for transportation of instruments, recording, the time spent rehearsing which was not spent at a lucrative job, new strings for my violin, my addiction to raw almond butter, etc. and I'll be happy just to see your shiny face!)"

Jonathan: "Storm Garner presents grated raw sweet potatoes! This evening I will debut the songs that I've received through acerbic revelation over the past year. I will also play a set with the Stormy Laughter, the auto-hermeneutical love ebullience. The Peculiar Pretzelmen from LA will scatter massive salt crystals and purple mustard down your pants and Jeff Harms from Chicago will soothe your sullen vapors. Other special guests and sights will confound as well. Do not deny yourself this opportunity to network with your destiny."</div>
