I had the distinct honor and pleasure of being an Interranger with the one, the only Digital Air Conditioned Hippy Kyrka at Interfuse '07. He set the example for all of us. He checked out the parking downhill from OA, no matter how much it hurt climbing that hill. I know how much it hurt, because I went down there myself to check on the lock on Sunday a.m.
He's hardcore to the bone. I'd be honored to serve again with him, even if it's nothing more than to torment those Leisure Army guys again. ^Rhino

So... let's cover this ad-nauseam folks... because its systemic of our crappy educational system here in the West. (For example, see a story such as [ www.stsc.hill.af.mil/CrossTa...erg.html ] - hell, I always hated Java anyway.) The answer isn't the ridiculous patch and re-patch cycle... and despite the fact that this particular instance _is_ targeting MSSQL server (by use of the internal "sysobjects" table not present on, say, MySQL or postgreSQL databases, but I digress) it's not a Microsoft problem... it's an "I can't code my way out of a paper bag and need a new career" problem for lots of coders. This worm could just as easily have targeted other forms of SQL servers; the SQL instance being the target and all, SQL injection is cake. So... are ya weirded out yet? Concerned _your_ site is hacked? You can do a couple of things. Let's say you manage www.widgets.com.... then Google "uc8010.com+widgets.com"... if you get no returns, congrats... otherwise, you're looking at restoring a backup of your database from a couple of days ago (you _do_ have backups, right?) and patching, re-patching, and testing the crufty old MDAC patch from April of (*ahem*) 2006. If you're really lazy, you can head over to [ linkscanner.explabs.com/linksc...ult.asp ] and enter your domain there.... these folks claim they can scan your site for infection... Did I mention this made me some money today? <shit eating grin> Only for answering questions though... none of the systems I manage are vulnerable to automated stuff... you really have to twiddle the bits yourself I guess.
