the Bacchae "death dance"

Salutations dahlin's
Here is a clip from "the Bacchae". I am doing a death dance of sorts -- reveling in the impending doom of King Pentheus.

Go ahead, you can say it -- "what an excentric performance". HA!

the "BeLLy RooM" is Moving!!

Salutations dahlin's

I have exciting news - the "BeLLy RooM" is moving right across the street from SLU campus. My loverboy - Adam - found us an extremely large new house that seems to have been designed with a home studio in mind. All I can say is... it's ideal.

There is a large room that will quickly be transformed into the new and improved BeLLy RooM (TBA in May). The space offers a studio enviorment completely isolated from the rest of our home. My students will enjoy free parking, a private studio entrance, access to a restroom, as well as space for hangin' out. The positives are great - no more hot classes during summer! I will be able to fully opporate out of my home... which means I can offer day classes and private lessons to suit most schedules.

My pole dance students can look forward to the same small classes, BUT we will no longer be using the stage-based poles. (Yeah!) This space allows me to go ceiling to floor!

We will be making the move May 1st. The studio is our #1 priority, so look forward to a Grand Opening Party later in May. So, ahh... does anyone know how to hang mirrors or where to get them? HA!

I laLoVe NY, and NY laLoVes me!!

Salutations dahlin's

I've got wonderful news... I'm going back to laLoVely NY in March for a very cool gig! A director there is filming an adaptation of the Greek play "the Bacchae" (by Euripides), and I have been contracted to do several things for the production: choreograph the dance numbers, and play the role of the Chorus Leader and principle dancer!

Fun!!!

I've been keeping it to myself until everything was set, and it's a go! Production begins March 23. I'll keep you all posted and take lots of pictures. www.macmillanfilms.com

What the blog am I talkin' about?

Salutations dahlin's

Ahhhh... (the sweet sound of relief) Another semester is behind me, and though it was great, I was so ready for this break. I had an outstanding semester and I'm proud to have made the Dean's List again. Woohoo! Enough about that though.

Each year, I extend the Holiday challenge to troupes to perform at their local nursing home or childrens hospital. I'm a little late getting the message out this year, so if it's too tight... go for New Years, or plan something now for Valentine's Day. I think it's important that we dance for the joy it brings and these venues will certainly deck the halls with joy. Bring everyone! All your students, basics to advanced - have them bring their families. Fill the place up with friendly faces. If they don't want to dance, they can mingle with the people, pass out candy, or hugs. It can be VERY casual and you will still be deeply appriciated.

Well, I have all this desire to say more but I am at a loss. I think I'm still a little brain fried from school. HA! Perhaps I'll have a clue later.

Happy Holiday with Peace & lalalalaLoVe for all!

where have I been?

Salutations dahlin's

I feel like I have been so neglectful to my online life. HA! It's like living in two worlds. My physical world has taken over for a short time... cause I'm hard a work in a new semester. For the most part my classes are fairly general, but I am taking a few courses that really stick out like Yoga, Intro to Acting, and Globalization.

Yoga is everything everyone says it is. Though I resist popular trends (I can't help it), I will gladly line right up with everyone else and say "yes, take yoga"... the semetry it has returned to my body is irreplacable.

Intro to Acting has been challenging and fun! My teacher is fantastic and he's really helping me to get into character. Most of you know, I have very few inhibitions... after this class, I may have none. =)

Globalization is waaaayyyy depressing, but it's so vastly improved my knowledge of the social problems of the world and, how we got here. For myself, I am taking on personal changes and acknowledging the cultural responcibility of economics and how I as a consumer play into that. I could go on and on... but that's better left for another blog.

Please keep me in your thoughts as I work hard for my grades. Thanks to last semester I am now a member of the Honors Club, a National Honors Society "Gamma Beta Phi", and I am working towards an honors degree in Sociology. Despite all this, I still dance at least 4 times a week (gotta keep those hip rolls tight), and every night I make time to hold onto my loverboy close. It's all about the little things.

lalaLoVe ya' all!

I thought of a funny

Salutations dahlin's

Okay, so I'm dancing around to Artemis's DvD last night and a joke comes to me. If you don't think it's funny... screw you! HA! (she spat playfully).

Okay, here it goes: Why do Turkish dancers think they are smarter than Egyptian dancers?

because they can count all the way up to 9.

So we have to say goodbye, for the summer...

Salutations dahlin'

I have a whole bunch going on this summer. I'm really excited. For starters, I finish my finals this week and my 1st semester of college will be complete. I impressed myself. I'll let you know the offical word after finals. I also took my first aerial lesson to learn the Silks (I gotta another one this weekend). It was a challenge, and I laLoVed it!

May27th I leave for New Hampshire to guest instruct at Pole Bliss in Manchester. It's such a great place. I will be staying in a guest house in Salam, MA (which is just 30mins away). It's gonna be fun. We will be celebrating Leela (the owners) birthday, and the grand opening of the new addition to her studio: an advanced pole work room with 12 beautiful brass poles. I can't wait to see them

From there I leave June 24th, and fly to Ohio to film the 1st in my BeLLy Dance DvD series. The program is called:

"Beautiful Belly - Style & sk'Zils"

You know I had to work a pun in somehow. =) It's going to be fab. I will cover 5 different Arabic beats, with zils and dance to accentuate them! The program will also include a 20 min "dance-a-long" that help dancers practice for that "effortless" look. Thanks to Shelly (Blue Lotus Society) and Jeremiah (Solace), the music will totally RaQ! I'm not sure of the finished release date but soon... and it will be available on amazon.

Once I finish filming, it's off to KY to visit the family for the 4th of July. I'll be returning to Louisiana around July 14th. *ahhhhhh... home sweet home

I hope you all have an amazing summer. See you soon!

I'm Johnny-not-on-the-spot

Salutations dahlin's

I haven't been around much. It's probably been odd (me being so quiet). HA! Well, college is keeping me busy... but I love it. Sociology is an amazing science. I'm so excited about the doors it will open for me. I've got my eye set on studing how dance relates to culture. I just got about 4 years of hoops to jump through.

Arabic classes started up again, and they are going wonderfully. I'm learning to say things like "the cup is empty". I look forward to it no matter how tired I am. I'll just learned how to say the numbers 11 through 19, they are gorgous to say. I imagine that would be funny to someone who has spoken them their life, but to an outsider, I find myself walking around and saying them like a little mantra. =)

The only other thing to note is that while I haven't managed to write a blog recently, I have managed to keep up with my love of Belly Dance and Pole Fitness. I just spent a wonderful weekend in Lake Charles, LA teaching a "How to Tribal" workshop. It was an absolute blast, and in the next two weeks I will be starting a Belly Dance program at SELU (info on my site). I'm also jazzed cause my Pole'rotica classes are thriving and keeping me in good shape... not too mention a side of spicey love life.

I hope you all are well... cudling those you love, laughing, practing your arts, and taking care of yourself!

peace & laLoVe
