The weather was not good yesterday and it kept a lot of people away from the art opening unfortunately. Despite the bad weather a number of friends did turn out, we had a lovely afternoon socializing and Zarah sold four drawings yesterday.

Her show will continue to hang through to the first of the year.

If you are interested in seeing her work at the gallery...

Zarah Avalon will premiere her drawings and other art pieces at the Piece O Mind art gallery. She is the featured artist in this children's art show. The show opens on December 8th, 2-5 pm and will hang through the month of December. The gallery is open 11am - 8pm Wednesday thru Saturday. Her work is for sale from $5 to $40.

I have books for sale on Half.com!

Just added seven more books from sorting out the 'special' shelf upstairs. There are some books of real potential interest to my magickally oriented friends. It isn't a long list so do look right on through to the second page of the listing.

Here is a coupon for $5.00 off your first purchase from Half.com on my books or anything else for sale there. Enjoy!

I'm pleased to report that I've sold 3 books off the original set of listing so this is turning into a worthwhile adventure.

I have one other special item not listed and available only to appropriately qualified O.T.O. friends (you know who you are)... no cost on this one, just pay the shipping ($3.00 should cover it) and I'll send it to you. Might be good for a chapter library or a recent initiate who wasn't around to receive a copy at the time of publication.

It finally got cold here, cold at night, chilly in the day. But it has been dry and pleasant otherwise, totally nice temps in the daytime as long as you are wearing a jacket right through Thanksgiving weekend. A little scary actually, it shouldn't be this warm.

Day before yesterday morning when I left for work, I did a double take. I came out the cabin door into what I would have sworn was a spring morning. It was warmish, damp, and slightly grey. No, it really is the end of November, practically December I said to myself. I know because there are obnoxious christmas carols playing on the radio. It CAN'T be spring.

On the drive in to work, it started to rain on me. A bit chilly for a spring rain, but not by much. When I got to work I learned from a local weather maven that we were due for up to 4 inches of rain over the next few days. Wow. It really ought to be snow now, but rain is good.

Grey and cloudy all day that day and again yesterday. So much so our solar power gain was such that we used more than we gained both days and therefore had a mandated low power consumption night last night.

This morning, The Wind is here. Bright sun so we gain some power, but boy is is windy. Noisy, blowing the car around on the road, the animals are all hunkered down in their shelters. Believe me cold doesn't scare those alpacas at all... but wind they don't like much. We drove to Concho and back to visit the local holiday bazaar, and when we came out of the building it was grey and raining. We drove out from under the cloud on our way home, but the wind is still blowing and we'll be seeing more of these clouds and precipitation today and tomorrow I bet.

The thing is, it is still really warm. Not hot, but warm like winter giving way to early spring days warm. We always have our first snow by or on Thanksgiving weekend. Not this year. And no sign of it coming either.

Global warming anyone?

EDIT: 20 minutes after I posted this message the rain & clouds we had in Concho hit us here. Looks like Jason & Zarah will not be headed out to drive in the parade of lights in Holbrook tonight after all. Weather looks nasty for the rest of the night.

I'm overdue for a general update here on LJ so this is a brief chatty bit excerpted from an email I sent to some family today and beefed up with a few more words...

Zarah turned 13 last week and we had a party with her friends the previous weekend that was a lot of fun - we made candles and I built a custom clueful pirate treasure hunt for them complete with treasure chest at the end full of jewelry, nail polish and other girly stuff. Adult guests came and hung out with us too and stayed to play some poker afterwards. The candles turned out beautifully. Two & three color juice can pours and we recycled glass tower candles and decorated them with tissue paper on the glass with glue-water. Everyone was very creative and I'm looking forward to burning some of the candles we made for Yule.

Z got a sinus / sore throat thing over Thanksgiving which kinda slowed her down, but she is on the mend. School is going well for her overall since we reduced her workload a bit and she is busily writing a story many pages in length already. She is supposed to participate in an art hanging at the gallery in Concho this coming weekend and we are trying to get that sorted out.

I had the holiday bug too but recovered pretty well within a couple of days.

It is getting down below freezing temps all nights now. Animal water is frozen in the mornings. We're snug in our new cabin / trailer space.

Thanksgiving dinner was pretty traditional and fabulous. Patrick, Mel & Jonathan did most of the cooking. Kevin & Donna joined us. By the time of this writing most of the leftovers have been eaten up.

I made three cauldrons of delicious soup on Saturday and they are all put up in the freezer to supply easy meals for the coming winter months.

We have three new 'barn' kitties we call The Ghosties because they are mostly white (with some spotty markings) and they haunt your every step when you walk around outside. Two girls (Marbles & Serendipity), one boy (Bandit); two fuzzy (Bandit & Marbles), one short hair (Serendipity). They are ultra sweet and are trying hard to convince us to let them into the house.
