Had to go to a work seminar for Glen Ivy Hot Springs Spa the other day.... Boring yes, but somehow amidst talk of little known facts...in my world... about things like 401K, Roth IRA, stocks, bonds, varying medical insurance options, etc. I became petrified of myself!
WILL I MAKE THE RIGHT DESICIONS? DO I EVEN BELIEVE IN "RIGHT" IN THOSE TERMS? ANONANONANONANONONONONNNNN........
pROBLEM...OR NOT....?
I'm a fence-rider! I have a real issue with finalizing decisions...I can always argue both ways. Perhaps it's bcuz I like to play Devil's Advocate a lot... just to fuck with people & feel out their passion &/or knowledge on their arguments. But then again, this could be a by-product of my indecisiveness. Awww crap, the chicken or the egg...doesn't matter.
My problem is, seems these early 20s are making it worse.

Do I settle into a better paying career, build my future, sacrifice passion, blah, blah, blah? Do I chase my passions w/o fear, w/o attachment, sacrifice money...& "building future"...etc.?
Do I treat relationships like business partnerships...do the smart thing...? Or do I, despite all logic & lessons learned, follow my "feeeeeeelings?"

A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to get tickets for the first-ever prescreeing for "Memoirs of a Geisha" based on the novel, which was written by Arthur Golden. Published in 1997 in the United States, it was a bestseller of the year.

It was the best movie I have seen in years!!! Although the story is not as historically accurate as "Geisha, A Life," it gave to me a profound respect for a lifestyle that I, until this previewing, had only a vague knowledge of. Furthermore, the visuals were as gorgeous as "Hero" & the story was intensely beautiful!

Controversy:
There have been questions about the book's authenticity after legendary retired geisha Mineko Iwasaki, whose story formed the basis of Golden's research, condemned the novel for conflating geishas with prostitutes. She published her own memoir, "Geisha, A Life", to counter Golden's version. A book review says the following: ' "Geisha: A Life" is not compellingly written, nor as fascinating as the sexualized and fictional account "Memoirs of a Geisha." It is not as academically insightful and full of details as Liza Dalbys "Geisha." But it is honest and real. '



"Memoirs of a Geisha" Book & Film:
For a few years after reading it, Steven Spielberg worked on a film adaptation version of the book and was attached as the director. Being busy with other projects, Spielberg decided to drop the director title in early 2002. The project had a few other director candidates during 2002 and 2003 including Spike Jonze and Kimberley Peirce, and eventually settled with Rob Marshall (Chicago). Spielberg is now one of the producers of the film.
