The March 29-30th workshop in plant propagation and medicinal root harvest is a workshop given by Michael Pilarski--aka Skeeter--at his Herb farm in Hood River, Oregon. Skeeter is an amazing plant person, herbalist, permaculturalist, and teacher. This is the third year the herb farm will be in production, and it is a truly magical place. Come out for the workshop and plan on bringing back some new plant friends with you.


I am organizing a group of people to come and assist in preparing the land for the workshop on Friday the 28th of March, and if you come and volunteer the workshop is free! Arrangements can be made if you'd like to come help out on Friday and stay for the workshop on Saturday. I am currently organizing carpools and sleeping arrangements, so if your interested let me know your time schedule and if you could be a driver (how many people you can bring along). * Zine Making 101 with Ari - Since the invention of the printing press (if not before), dissidents and marginalized citizens have published their own opinions in leaflet and pamphlet form, which inmodern times is know as a 'zine'. Come and learn the basics of making a small 'magaZine' in this 1 hour workshop. Ari will be helping us assemble a zine in class and copies will be available shortly afterwards! 4:00
* Ivy Basket Weaving with Kiliii - Join us for a 1 hour workshop on how to harvest English Ivy and make it into a beautiful basket or other creative creation. Kiliii Yu is a local hero when it comes to reintroducing people to their natural environments and will be leading this fun and creative workshop. 3:00-4:00
* Mushroom Walk with Jordan Weiss - Ever wanted to know more about mushrooms that grow in the area? Take a half hour walk with TLC Farm's mushroom guru and learn more about your local fungi friends and how to foster their growth. 5:00-5:30
* Community Yoga with Lauren Turley - Come and Start off your BLOOM experience reaching for the trees and breathing with the forest and animals! Lauren will lead us for 45 minutes through some easy and simple yoga poses to set the tone for the days events. 2:15-3:00

About the workshop

A Food Forest is a term for an orchard in Permaculture Design.

Here we try to obtain a generous yield while producing all of the

maintenance needs of the system on-site. We can grow fecund fruit trees

while we grow understory plants for fertility, medicinal herbs, and other edibles

in this intentional forest. We observe the ecological system of the native forest

to create effective designs. By observing the functions of the native forest,

we can grow an abundance of useful plants in our intentional forest with minimal maintenance.





Please join us for this workshop in the Food Forest of Tryon Life Farm.

The first day of this two day workshop will discuss design strategies,

including ways to minimize the use of water for the plants.

The second day will focus on species selection and the creation of guilds.

We will be learning from the Food Forest that was planted at the Village

Building Convergence in May of 2007 and enriching the plantings as we collaborate

on strategies for the future. Each day will include hands-on activities.



About Marisha Auerbach

Marisha has been practicing, studying, and teaching permaculture in the Pacific

Northwest for the past ten years. Marisha is working to support the paradigm shift

through sharing knowledge with others on a variety of topics including: permaculture,

flower and gem essences, local economics, community building, ethnobotany, herbalism,

edible landscape design, and organic gardening among others. She is enthusiastic about

creating perennial forage systems and building local community as a response to peak oil.

Marisha's interest in local economics and creating useful items using her resources manifests

as several projects: working on a local community marketplace in Olympia, Queen Bee Flower

and Gem Essences, Herb'n Wisdom for permaculture consulting and herbal products, and

Growing Greetings which produces plantable greeting cards and other products.

Marisha graduated from the Evergreen State College in 1998 where she focused on

ethnobotany, ecological agriculture, and sustainability studies.
