This is an article I posted on Associated Content, exploring how the idea of adulthood has become marginalized in contemporary culture.

Hi Larry! I liked your essay (I scanned thru it and would like to give it a closer read). It certainly does seem true that society has consigned "adult" and "mature" to the realm of sex and violence, and sometimes substitutes the sappy, euphemistic "family friendly". I was hoping that as the Baby Boomers aged (they are just a little ahead of me) they would help to redefine midlife, old age, and the notion of maturity. After years of living in a college town, I was sick to death of the glorification & indulgence of youth. Anyway, I won't start ranting, but I did enjoy your essay.

I agree. I was thinking the same thing.

We are all teen-agers in failing bodies.
