Reasons, seasons and lifetimes

<div>I post this every few years because it means alot to me.
Especially now, because as of late I've been pondering how much my friendships have altered in the last year. Like a paint pallette of an artist-
-some colors are bolder, brighter, and stronger than ever. They are true and will not fade even when I may not always be the person they want to be friends with or make decisions they feel are stupid (and vice versa). These bold colors are my friends to the end and I cherish them. You know who you are.
-some colors have faded. They are still friends, but just on a different level.
- some have even completely chipped themselves off my pallette, or I have chipped them off as their color was no longer compatible with the landscape I'm creating. There are some cases where the color never belonged there as it was not really a friendship to begin with.
-There are new colors emerging- wonderful new friends that bring me much joy

Anyways, I post this every few years because it means alot to me.
____________________________________________________________________________________________
(I got this emailed to me many years ago)

Are you a Reason, a Season, or a Lifetime?

Pay attention to what you read.
After you read this, you will know
the reason it was sent to you!
People come into your life for a reason,
a season, or a lifetime. When
you figure out which one it is, you
will know what to do for each person.

When someone is in your life for a
REASON. . .
It is usually to meet a need you
have expressed. They have come to
assist you through a difficulty, to
provide you with guidance and
support, to aid you physically, emotionally,
or spiritually. They may seem like
a godsend, and they are!

They are there for the reason you
need them to be. Then, without any
wrong doing on your part, or at an
inconvenient time, this person will
say or do something to bring the
relationship to
an end.

Sometimes they die.
Sometimes they walk away.
Sometimes they act up and force you
to take a stand.

What we must realize is that our
need has been met, our desire
fulfilled, their work is done. The
prayer you sent up has been
answered.
And now it is time to move on.

When people come into your life for
a SEASON...
It is because your turn has come to
share, grow, or learn. They bring
you an experience of peace, or make
you laugh.

They may teach you something you
have never done. They usually give
you an unbelievable amount of joy.
Believe it!
It is real!
But, only for a season.

LIFETIME relationships teach you
lifetime lessons;
things you must build upon in order to have a solid
emotional foundation...
Your job is to accept the lesson,
love the person, and put what you
have learned to use in all other
relationships and areas of your life.
It is said that love is blind but
friendship is
clairvoyant.

Thank you for being a part of my
life.
Stop here and just SMILE.
This last part is to show people you
love them.
Send this to every friend that you
have online,
including the person who
sent it to you. :-)

DONT FORGET TO:> > >
Work like you don't need the money,
Love like you've never been hurt,
And dance like no one is watching.</div>

Trimming my tribes

<div>I belonged to over 400 tribes! Over the past week or so, I have been weeding through and leaving tribes that are no longer of use/interest to me. I belonged to quite a few simply for club promoting purposes. Since I decided I no longer want to be a promoter (at least not for a very long time), there is no reason for me to belong to so many.
I'm still staying in the tribes where the genre/club/artist is of real interest to me personally (and not just professionally/networking), otherwise bye-bye! I may choose to rejoin someday. Or I may not.

Silly thing though, I'm also joining more tribes that I did not have time for before, so I may still belong to a lot, but they will reflect MY interests.</div>

<div>I swear one of these years I'll do 50+ books again!
*cross posted to my various blogs and a bunch of reading communities*
(see profile for info on current and past reads)

10)The Time Machine by H.G. Wells (science fiction)128p B+
11)Carter Beats the Devil (Novel- Roaring 20's/Magic) 483p B
12)White as Snow by Tanith Lee (part of The Fairy Tale Series created by Terri Windling) 319p B
13)The Full Monty by Simon Beaufoy (screenplay) 145p B+
14)Women Who Love Too Much by Robin Norwood (Self Help) 294 p A-
15)Mystic River by Dennis Lehane (mystery/suspense) 448p B-
16)If The Buddha Got Stuck: A Handbook for Change on a Spiritual Path (Zen/Self help)240p A

Just could not finish and have no plans on picking up again -
Former Child Stars: The Story of America's Least Wanted by Joal Ryan (Non-fiction) 225p

Put away to start again another day-
The Tribe of Tiger: Cats and Their Culture by Elizabeth Marshall Thomas (non-fiction) 240p
Dragon's Play :A New Taoist Transmission of the Complete Experience of Human Life by Charles Belyea and Steven Tainer (Taoism)196p

Thoughts on what I've read-

10) Time Machine- Very prolific. Even though it was written over 100 years ago, I can still see the evolutionary outcome happening if we are not careful- a wonderful cautionary tale. The time traveler invents a time machine that takes him to the year 803,701. It appears to be a utopian society full of leisure and joy, but there is much more than meets the eye! Very dark and disturbing in a wonderfully thought provoking way. Very short novella that can be quickly and delightfully gobbled up. Highly recommend.

11) Carter Beats the Devil- Pure fun. I especially enjoyed it because it was set in San Francisco (where I live) and Oakland. It was fun to "relive" my city in the roaring 20's. Magicians, vaudeville, arch rivals, romance, deceit, strange presidential deaths, brothels, CIA, and inventors and their projects are all rolled into one rollicking ride. Based on the life of Charles Carter, with some interesting fictional additions, it is filled with historical characters and adventures. All of the mysteries are all tied up neatly by the end, almost too neatly for my tastes, as there really is nothing left to wonder about. If you are looking for something fun and light, this would be a good choice.

12) White as Snow- A dark and sensuous retelling of Snow White. It is almost worth it for the long introduction (almost 30 pages!) which delves deeply into the roots of the snow White fairy tale and its variations. I liked the story for the most part, though it did drag and try too hard in some sections. Lee masterfully blends in the mythologies of Demeter and Persephone, pagan rituals, and Catholic mores to make this tale even more complex.

13) The Full Monty- Every bit as fun as the movie! Excellent peek into the psyche of the working class man, self esteem and body image, societal pressures, and the differences between men and women. There were also a few scenes that did not make it to the film version.

14) Women Who Love Too Much- The title says it all. A must read for any woman who keeps finding herself in bad relationships. Warning- be prepared to dig deep if you want this to make a difference in your life. A lot of passages made me feel like I was reading my own biography, which was very painful and not easy. However, it has put a lot of patterns in perspective, shown me the roles I have had in my destiny, and is allowing me to make very healthy changes in my life.

15) Mystic River- A hard boiled mystery set in working class Boston. Jimmy, Sean, and Dave are boyhood friends until the day Dave gets abducted. All three boys are forever changed and they go their separate ways. 25 years later the three are reunited under grisly circumstances- the murder of Jimmy's 19 year old daughter. The thing I liked most about this novel, is that a good portion of it is "in the head", getting into the psyches of the characters. A good choice for when you are stuck in bed with the flu.

16) If the Buhdda Got Stuck- Absolutely wonderful book that gives do-ale suggestions for unsticking all the places your life is in a rut. Kasl is a psychotherapist in addition to practicing buddhism. Her advice is well thought out and clearly presented. It may be a little "fluffy", but strongly feel most people who benefit from this book. Highly recommend.

Could not and will not finish- Former Child Stars
Ryan's writing style was unbearable. What I hoped would be a thoughtful book was anything but. Why we treat "former child stars" as the butt of every joke and why/how our (society's) treatment of them leaves them as psychological messes was to be the focal point. She made me not care about something I thought would be an interesting social study. Complete trash.

The other books I did not finish are ones I plan on going back to later on.</div>

Rest in Peace Paige

<div>I just found out about Paige last night. I am numb, in shock, in pain. Like most of us, our friendship was off and on, but I always cherished the moments she let me in. Always.

And like most of us, I was there for her during several of her "episodes" ....talking her down on the phone or im, and a few times in her bed, just holding her while she sobbed and wailed.

I was asked tonight if I felt bad at all for being there those times and if I felt like it was useless as she finally succeeded (mind you, this was not asked in a mean or bad way, but a check in on seeing where I was at. No ill will was meant at all.).

My answer- I do not think any time that any of us "saved her" was a waste. Each time, it kept her around that much longer. I am thankful for each time she was saved, each time one of us helped her to stay on. I am so sorry that her pain got to be too much. I'm really sad when I think of her last moments.

I remember the last time we really hung out- Valentine's Day at the Endup (was it really that long ago?!?!?!?). Being totally insane goofballs on the dance floor.

I pray to all the gods and goddesses that she is now in peace.
I pray that pretty kitty Khai finds peace- I hear he is good hands.
I pray that all of her friends find peace.

Rest in Peace Paige- We all love you.</div>

<div>I just want to make one thing perfectly clear.........

Murias and I are trying to have a drama free break-up and do this friendly and respectfully. We have had an amazing time with this so far and have both been surprised at how well we are both handling this.

We do NOT want friends thinking they have to choose between us or "pick sides". There are no sides. If you are friends with both of us, stay friends with both of us. That is not what *my* choosing to take space from some people or carefully choosing where I go is all about (that is what I need to do to preserve my sanity).

I do not want friends feeling they have to choose who to invite to what. If you want to invite both of us, PLEASE invite both of us. We will decide what we are comfortable with- we do not want our friends to feel that they need to make those choices for us.
Thanks.</div>

<div>I have not been bra shopping IN YEARS. Now that I am a professional bra fitter, I know how bras are supposed to fit- most ladies are wearing the wrong size. Due to my bras being so old and stretched out, combined with my not knowing how to properly fit when I bought them, they are all wrong.

I decided to pamper myself yesterday and go buy a couple new bras. I was so unsuccessful. Where the hell does one get a CUTE AND SEXY bra for the above D cup?!?!!?!? Depending on the bra, I'm anywhere between a D-DDD. Seems like most of the cute bras stop at D, and often their D runs small.

I do not want a grandma bra, nor do I want my cleavage completely flattened....now is the time for me to want to feel my sexiest.
Where do you go?
Thanks!</div>

<div>There are a lot of folks I do not trust right now. A lot of people I thought were friends. If you have discovered that I have unfriended you online (lj, myspace, tribe, etc.), please do not take it too personally, just respect that I need space from you (you either directly violated my trust or are otherwise too involved in certain situations for my comfort level); with proper healing time and respect given, this space will hopefully be temporary.

I really want to go dancing, but I'm going to be extremely picky about where I go, because there are a few people who I really can't stand to see right now- avoiding drama. For someone who hates drama as much as I do, a lot of it finds it way to me!

That being said, when going through a crisis, you do find out who your true friends are. Again, thank you everyone for your support and love. I will get through all of this.</div>

We have come to the painful and heartbreaking conclusion that we would be best on our own. I have broken up with Murias tonight and have asked him to move out. We will be filing papers at the courthouse this week. We both can use all the support and love you can give us to help us through this very difficult time.

<div>I just sent this to a friend. It explains a lot and thought I would share it with all of you.

I've been laying low, taking care of myself. Right now I'm going through some horrid stuff, and it will be awhile till you probably will see me out agin. I'm going to be extremely picky about where I go, because there are a couple people who I really can't stand to see right now- avoiding drama.

There are a lot of folks I do not trust right now. A lot of people I thought were friends.

There will be some other announcements soon, then it shall all make sense....probably.

<a href="http://people.tribe.net/leggylady/blog/ab467a55-a4b9-4bbf-b23b-486e2389d1c2"> <img class=" picThumb" src="http://images.tribe.net/tribe/upload/photo/4f1/f45/4f1f4532-173d-40fc-8090-d8b470757037.thumb" width="47" height="78" alt="" />
    </a>
<div>War Day (and the Journey Onward) by Whitley Strieber and James Kunetka Genre-post-apocalypse novel, 515p, Published in 1984, Grade=A

Post apocalyptic fiction/science fiction is one of my favorite genres. This book was one of the best post-apoc books I have read. The realism was astounding. This book made The Day After look like child's play (and I thought that was a great movie). The authors made themselves the main characters- two survivors of the nuclear war with Russia. They are both authors who decide to travel the war ruined United States to write a documentary on the effects, collect government documents from various sources, and interview folks along the way. Positively haunting. The voices echoed in this book could come from any of us. This is out of print and harder to find. However, I strongly recommend it, though be forewarned- it is not an easy read, it is pretty deep and heavy.

9) Job: A Comedy of Justice by Robert A Heinlein (Sci-fi/fantasy) A

Could not finish-
Galapagos by Kurt Vonnegut (read 156 pages of 295)

Thoughts on what I read-

1) Pawn's Dream was a fun yarn that should be read for sheer entertainment value. A fantasy novel that fluctuates between dual worlds. When Roland dreams, he lives in a magical land full of sorcery, evil plots, and beautiful lands. This Roland then, in turn, dreams of a modern day convenience store clerk in a strange machine filled land. Roland soon discovers that he is a Dreamer and that both worlds are real and he is living a dual existence. Long lost relatives find him in the "real world" and teach him about the "dream world" and magical powers he never knew he had. The two worlds collide into a fun romp of an adventure. A few plot holes, but the entertainment factor kept it going strong. The ending begged for a sequel I hope Nyland delivers!

2) Sticking to the dream world vs real world theme, I picked up Daughter of the Bear King. I had high expectations as Arnason's Ring of swords is one of my favorite books ever read. My hopes and this book fell flat- though I had to keep reminding my self that Bear King was written a decade before Ring, so perhaps her style just had not fully matured yet.
Esperance is an everyday day housewife type by day, and fierce bear warrior in her dreams. One day while doing laundry a freak accident sends her to another realm - her "real" realm, as she discovers she is royalty- half human, half bear (hence the title) and was placed on the Earth realm for sanctuary and refuge. This book dragged on to the point I almost gave up. Then, despite all the far-fetchedness, I saw through the parable and grasped the moral/message the author was trying to communicate. Figuring out the "deeper meaning" of the story allowed me to finish the book, but I was still left with a hungry spot in my soul for the depth that was lacking in this story. Skip this and go straight to Ring of Swords!

3) I've heard so many good things about Tom Robbins, so I was excited to start reading Half Asleep in Frog's Pajamas. I can see glimpses of why he is so well praised, he does have a very unique writing style. However, I was not too fond of this book. The narration point of view was certainly interesting, YOU are the main character, Gwen, a Filipino stock broker over Easter Weekend the days after the market crashes. Try as I might, I did not like ANY of the characters. I thought they were all stupid people that I would kick in real life, they were THAT annoying. Well, Larry Diamond was a least a little intriguing even through his being a very annoying person. The story line was pretty silly and unreal. The only redeeming qualities were 2 of the requirements I have for a book- the witty social commentary and it stimulated curiosity, to the point of research (on some ancient african religions).

4,5,7) The Venus Trilogy by Pamela Sargent was excellent. Sci-fi mets generational family saga. The story starts on a post "resource wars" earth and then travels to the terra-forming of Venus. Beautifully crafted and deserves a long write up, but I would hate to take anything away from the magic of these books. I was sucked in. At times it is more hard sci-fi bent, at other times it focuses more on the family saga and social science elements of the various cultures and sub-cultures. Sargent blends all of these elements perfectly. I was not surprised to discover she holds a MA in classical philosophy.
This work is often compared to Robinson's Mars trilogy. However, this was written roughly a decade before. I plan on reading Mars sometime in the semi near future.

6) A Whiff of Death was a fun read. Murder by chemistry. When a professor discovers one of his grad students dead in the lab, he knows this "accident" was a meticulosity plotted murder. But who and why?? Asimov uses his chemistry degree and his fine story telling to weave an entertaining tale, very different from his sci-fi tales. Because social mores were a very different when this was written and set, it can come across in places as a bit dry and backwards. I had to keep reminding myself that this was about, and written during, the fifties culture and mind set.

8) The Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World is now considered of my favorite books of all times. I went in with no knowledge nor expectations, and was just completely wrapped around the alternating story lines. Cyberpunk meets surrealism. Absolutely delicious. At the end of some chapters I found myself positively weepy from the sheer beauty of his writing. Very powerful stuff. I'm definitely going to check out more books by Haruki Murikami.

9) Job was a brilliant piece of work, Heinlein at his best- funny, wacky, and totally a Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. Very interesting social concepts and observations on various religious beliefs are packed into this book combined with wit and humor. A must read.

Could not finish because was just too insane for me- Galapagos
While I appreciated what points Vonnegut was trying to make in this parable, it just was to drawn out for me. At page 156 (of 295), I had just had enough, it was just way too incohesive. Had this been a short story, I may have liked it.</div>

Donna Matrix began her venture into music while touring with the Dead in her teens. When Jerry died, she wandered around in a haze until she channelled her guiding light beings from the Pleiades on what to do next. She was instructed to go to a psytrance rave and take ecstasy for the first time. After shaving off her dredlocks and taking a shower, she realized that her future was in dance music. Now a staple in San Francisco's vibrant breaks scene, she frequently terrorizes hippies on the dancefloor with non-organic, dirty basslines that have no 'ethnic' stylings whatsoever.
It is rumored that she can also throw down some mean jungle!!!!!!

<div>there are like a million and ten things I need to be ACCOMPLISHING and I'm avoiding all of them right now. And still hopelessly behind on eeeeemails!!!
But it is Sat night, it is ok if I take the night off to d0rk around, right?!?!?!?

p.s.- I better be putting some clothes on as a friend is coming over cause, well, he needs a friend right now. I made him promise me that if he came over, he would encourage me to do do chores and sit and talk to me while I did them. we'll see, I'm feeling more like I want to d0rk around right now and being a lazy-ass.

p.p.s. Wow! Spell check corrected my spelling of lazy-ass!!! Will wonders ever cease!?!?!?</div>
