My Testimonials

May 10, 2005
I am honored to call this man my friend. I've only known him for ten years, but I'm looking forward to knowing him a lot longer.

One of the big reasons I DIDN'T die out there on that volcano was him tugging at me, saying "Uh, I really think we need to leave. NOW!"

So, that's cool, too.

He lets me talk him into the most outrageous shit ever -- yet always keeps his head.

I have recently had the good fortune to meet Leopoldo and I am proud to now call him my friend. A storyteller and an adventurer at heart, he pours his soul into what he does. He is a handsome, talented, caring, funny and intelligent man. His eyes sparkle with a light that touches any who dare to look inside. When you are in a room with Leopoldo you can't help but smile, no matter how down you are. He has a quality about him that is hard to put into words, but when you are with him you yearn to learn more about him and unravel the many mysterious that lie beneath.

The People With a Sense of Humor (PWASOH.com) web site is the first of my domains to move to its new home at Dreamhost.com. The site got a small feature upgrade and a bit of a make-over but more importantly it now has mailing list capabilities which means that, yes you guessed it, the PWASOH joke of the day may very well make it's re-appearance for the first time since Yahoo killed it in March or 2004. Now my hope is that PWASOH and GeekRoar combined will not chew up my bandwidth allotment over at Dreamhost. My calculations say I should be fine, but I will be keeping an eye on things and am ready to throttle the site down if I get another sudeen rush in hits. GeekRoar.com will be moving soon and may get a bit of an enhancement as well though when it will move and how much it will change remains to be seen.

On Tuesday 8/2 I was laid off my job at Xerox. The layoff caught me partially by surprise, I knew they were planning on cutting 2,600 jobs, I even knew there was going to be a re-org on Tuesday morning, I just did not know mine was one of the heads up for the axe. I spent Tuesday morning in a bit of disbelief (mixed with some disgust at how they handled the affair) and the rest of the day in quiet repose and reflection. By Thursday morning the feeling of unease had turned to one of contentment and ease. At first I thought I was in some state of denial, but the more time went by and the more I think about it, the more I realize this could actually be a very good thing. Let’s take stock:

I stubled across this beautiful piece of poetry set to animation: Dance Monkeys Dance and have been delighted by it since. Once you have enjoyed it please visit Ernie Cline's Spoken Word page (the author and reader) and listen to the other rants. They are airwolf!

I assume that by now you have all downloaded and wasted many hours playing with Google Earth (What, you haven’t? What the hell are you waiting for an invitation? Well you are invited, now go!) but have you seen Google Moon? Check it, and oh yeah don't forget to zoom in for detail on the landing sites ;-)

The Sundance Film Festival Grand Jury Prize winning documentary Why We Fight (2005) tries to shed light on the American drive to constantly be at war. At the heart of the analysis is president Dwight D. Eisenhower’s farewell address to the nation warning of the rise of the Military-industrial complex. The superb speech [...]

Writer Barrie Keeffe in his only produced film script delivers an intelligent and engaging gangster film in The Long Good Friday (1980). A documentary about kids going to the national spelling bee, how interesting could that possibly be? As it turns out: Very. Apple has posted a movie trailer for The Notorious Bettie Page (2005). The lead role had originally been ear marked for Liv Tyler but went to Gretchen Mol. I have respect for Ms Mol and wish her success in the role, but I must admit disappointment at the casting change. I would [...]

It has only been two days since Steve Jobs sold Pixar to Disney and the merger is already having healthy effects. Disney, which had previously announced they were going to make “Toy Story 3″ without Pixar (read as in ‘milk the franchise for all the money they could get out of it’) has reversed [...]
