about me
A bit of a pirate, a bit of a musician (ukulele, concertina, turkish saz, hand drums). A magician of sorts, or more likely a fool. Most likely both. A Work in Progress.
Roller Derby?
( events » sports / rec ) Anyone up for Roller Derby with Portland's own Rose City Rollers?

Though I rolled my eyes at it in the 70's, this generation's Roller Derby is much cooler. Probably has something to...

Yet Another Poem
(blog entry)
Lost
I walked a long,
long
way
to get lost.
And...
Here I am.
Letting Go
(blog entry)
Let go my desire
(But not without speaking)
Out into the world
Go play.
And having spoken,
I trust:
Delight and I
Will find each other --
And familiar or not,
It will be
A Surprise.
It was murder out there...

A murder of crows, that is. Makin' a ruckus.
Gayle commented on the noise, wondering if it were a bunch of geese or something. I went out onto the front balcony, and saw a whole mess o' crows, hopping a bit from branch to branch, on the big elm...

Now the Stars Birth Fortune
(blog entry)
That was the exact divination I got, when I consulted the oracle (aka the PsyCards), after a recent and sad breakup, about whether I should trim my mustache.

Gayle commented on the noise, wondering if it were a bunch of geese or something. I went out onto the front balcony, and saw a whole mess o' crows, hopping a bit from branch to branch, on the big elm (I think) tree. I called Gayle over to look, and then I noticed what the crows were on about.
An owl. Sitting there amidst the din, looking calmly about. There was a squirrel, too, right near the owl, darting around to check out the strange intru...

That was the exact divination I got, when I consulted the oracle (aka the PsyCards), after a recent and sad breakup, about whether I should trim my mustache.
I had grown it out for her, you see, because the shorter hairs tickled her delicate septum when we kissed. I had come to admire its manly handlebars, just beginning to curl in fine, villainly fashion.
But it was a pain to wax every day, twice if I wanted to look tidy in the evening. And a painful reminder of what I had lost.
The...

Back to the cruise: Day 5, we sailed around to Kailua-Kona, where we met the turtles.

Gayle and I were on our own in Kona; it was nice having some just-the-two-of-us adventures. We rented some snorkel gear and hopped a shuttle to Kahalu'u, aka "Turtle Beach."
It was crowded, so the water was a bit turbid, but there were lovely, colorful fish and coral - and honu!
Gayle was very brave in her first snorkeling expedition. I h...
