Gayle commented on the noise, wondering if it were a bunch of geese or something. I went out onto the front balcony, and saw a whole mess o' crows, hopping a bit from branch to branch, on the big elm (I think) tree. I had grown it out for her, you see, because the shorter hairs tickled her delicate septum when we kissed. I had come to admire its manly handlebars, just beginning to curl in fine, villainly fashion. But it was a pain to wax every day, twice if I wanted to look tidy in the evening.
