"A lot of times in the rhetoric, people forget the facts. And the facts are that thousands of small businesses—Hispanically owned or otherwise—pay taxes at the highest marginal rate."—to the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce; Washington, D.C., March 19, 2001

taxing businesses
Hmmm, so "thousands" pay the highest marginal rate, but out of how many. I mean, what percentage is that? There are a LOT of small businesses in the US. And, no matter how low or high the "highest marginal rate" is, someone will be paying it, if they're successful enough to make that much money.

Politically, it's much easier to tax businesses than individuals.

Couple interesting links I found....

I don't understand. "Hispanically yes" to what? That it's easier to tax Hispanic small businesses than non-Hispanic other people?

Hispanic businesses pay the same tax rates of every other business. And "tax the corporations, not the people" is an easy sell to anyone who doesn't feel like a business owner, regardless of the race of the person spoken to or the race of the person who owns the business.

Bush would like to lower the tax rate on businesses. He included the phrase "Hispanically owned or otherwise" because he was talking to the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and he wanted to appeal to them. If he was talking to the Korean Chamber of Commerce, or the regular old Chamber of Commerce, he would have used different language to appeal to those demographics.

Oh, geez, I get it.
I've been reading economics lately. My head is in the wrong space completely....
After seven years, I just automatically parse for what I think he meant. I barely notice that it's not really English.
My bad.
