Mendocino Music and Dance Camp
Fri, August 29, 2008 - 8:49 AMKarim, Souhail, and Georges Lammam were the most down to earth people. They imparted important information that will stay with me for my entire life. I feel that I now have the tools to dance to anything. And I finally can play finger cymbals. I've got skills that I've always needed in order to take my dancing to the next level.
I took classes in rhythm and movement, cane, Arabic singing, and segat (Egyptian for finger cymbals, zills being the Turkish term, as Karim reminded us constantly). I met famous dancers, and famous musicians and had the privilege to see each one of them perform on a daily basis. Rachid and Naser have left imprints on my should with their incredible musical talents. And Georges Lammam was still amazing, ever since i saw him in concert back in February he is my favorite. Of course Karim and Souhail weren't bad either.
Since it was a work scholarship I was getting up at 6 am to make and serve breakfast everyday. My breakfast partner was Bobbi. Totally awesome and funny. Thank god I didn't have to do it alone. :)
I also met tons and tons of other new people, and if I listed them all this entry would be way to long.
Four working hours, plus six class hours (done to only 3-4 by Fri) , plus two hours of concert (I only went to it twice), and caberet (that I only stayed through one whole one cause I was so tired) combined to make me so sick and tired I could hardly move by Thursday. I had blisters covering the length of my very swollen feet, and I had tense muscles all over my body.
Eventually I made it to Sunday, and can't wait for next year! I recommend everyone go and have a fabulous time!!
