I'm doing stuff and walk away from my WinXP computer and come back to see it want to restart for an damn update! Windows installed another round of updates and now it's asking you to restart. Again. One simple command line entry can disable this obnoxious reminder. To stop this service, open [Command Prompt] (Start>Run>cmd>Enter) and type the following command sc stop wuauserv. This will not prevent Automatic Updates from starting at the next boot. So don't worry, you'll keep getting Windows updates. Just don't forget to restart ...eventually.

http://www.happn.in/ or happn.in scans & creates nifty collections of popular phrases used on Twitter near some major cities. The top 5 most popular phrases each hour are tweeted three times a day to the happn.in Twitter account for each city. The phrases are also posted to the happn.in website. To follow happn.in for a city, click the link for the closest city on the home page. Although the site currently groups hot phrases by location, it may be extended to aggregate by other attributes. For example, it could generate lists of popular phrases within networks of users, groups of friends or people with common interests. Data visualizations are also in the works. The cool tech behind it generates lists every hour. The items on each list have been used significantly more often (in that city) during recent hours than in the past. Common words and phrases, urls, #hashtags, and @usernames are omitted from the lists. A phrase's hotness is calculated with the ratio of the [percentage of users who used that phrase during the past hour] to the [mean percentage of users who used that phrase over the past week]. Phrases decay exponentially, and quickly drop from the list once they have stopped being used.

I love playing with spreadsheets. Now that Google has an awesome online spreadsheet I get to play around with stuff even more. Here's what I'm trying to feature out... I'm thinking about creating a microblogging site. Looking at open source software I see some options. JaikuEngine at Google Code powers Jaiku.com. Laconica runs on Python and powers identi.ca I want to create a Lifestream of Fictional Characters that mashup types including Einstein, Elvis, & Superman. Anyone have suggestion. Which is easiest to setup? Who wants to help?

I've been thinking of robots again. This time translation 'bots. So, someone started following me on Twitter that doesn't speak English. That seemed odd at 1st. I don't speak his language. Now on Google Talk & Chat there is a translation 'bot the you can have join a chat that will translation your conversation back and forth. I need a 'bot like that for Twitter. Google Moderator is a Google service that uses crowdsourcing to rank user-submitted questions. The service gives event attendees the chance to vote for the questions that they think should be asked, and to ask their own. The service aims to ensure that every question is considered, lets the audience see others' questions, and helps the moderator of an event pick questions that the audience cares about. The White House is using Moderator, hosted on AppEngine, to determine which questions President Obama should answer at an online Town Hall meeting. Scratch My Back?

I've been reading a lot of blogs since the end of the year. I've seen this new thing on blogs called Scratchback. ScratchBack is an online "tipping" system. It allows you, to accept tips and "give back" links or images in return. Hmm. I thought this might be a way to gateway some of the other stuff I have online. So okay. I know this decision will make me very unpopular... I'm deleting many of the picture in my tribe album. You know, the naked ones. I was out on the 'Net looking for stuff about the Wolverine Movie. You guys know how geeky I am and how I love comic books, especially Wolverine. I ran into something about this Actress named "Phoenix Marie" "Along with cars and sports, Marie also says she’s into comic books and admits that she has the first issue of Death of Superman storyline in her safe, not to mention a sexual interest in X-Men’s clawed character Wolverine (“Can you imagine the tear marks he’d leave down my back while he fucked me?”). Marie says she was as infatuated with comic books as a youth that when she entered the adult industry, she honored one of her favorite characters, Phoenix, by adopting the name as the alias by which fans would “come” to know her." Some how I've acquired a lot of friends on here. Nearly 500 before a quick clean up this morning. I'm thinking of paring that down. What do I do? Lots of One&Done Friends. Never heard from them again. Lots of Friend Collectors. They just wanna see how many they can add. Lots of LookyLucy's and PeekyPaul's. I don't mind that. I'm going to drop a few more people off the list, deciding by date. I'd had a few recent add's to my Friend list, but I won't let them go...don't worry.
