</a>
<div>Greetings to you from the hot and toasty canyon of Topanga. Here’s another look at the astrological line-up, enjoy!

At the fall equinox the year starts to coil in on itself. The days get ever shorter and the nights stretch out to maximum length. With the diminishing of light comes are certain seriousness. The kids enter school again, grown-ups focus on the plans ahead, there is a collective move toward completion.
The impending darkness is traditionally counterbalanced by much celebration: Halloween, Day of the Dead and Thanksgiving all open the door for Advent and the traditional ‘return of the light’ celebrations of the winter solstice.

Currently there is an ongoing Uranus Saturn opposition: the celestial taskmaster is having it out with the revolutionary, maverick, or bratty teenager. It’s about creating new forms of working and being. Anything that feels tight or constricted, will want to bust loose or find a way to expand. Anything that’s too utopian, ungrounded will come in for a reality check. Focus on finding your equilibrium, get ready to expand or contract as needed. Flexibility rules.
This topic will become amplified big time by the beginning of 2010 as this opposition moves into the cardinal signs of Aries &amp; Libra, with both planets in square aspect to Pluto in Capricorn.

Libra, Sep 22 - Oct 21

Libra folks, being by nature inclined to fair play, esthetics and balance are experiencing a wild ride these days. Especially those that are born in the very first and last few days of the sign should fasten their seatbelts and take a deep breath.

Sep 23, Sun squares Pluto
This aspect comes with assertiveness, being ready and willing to face a challenge. Go ahead, make things happen.

Sep 29, Mercury SD
As Mercury dislodges from it’s backwards motion it’s high time for progress. No more hesitating, procrastinating or indecisiveness. Get busy, get going and do your thing.

Oct 4, Full Moon 11* Aries
This is a passionate Moon, likely to bring up intense feelings, steamy romantic encounters and shortened fuses all the way around.

Oct 7, Mercury conjunct Saturn
A fine day to revisit your agreements, focus on what needs to be done, and make plans for the future. You may also feel uncommonly tongue tied and have difficulty getting you message across. Practice patience and perseverance.

Oct 10, Sun trine Jupiter, Mercury square Pluto
Even though it’s the weekend, today is excellent for power talks and negotiations. Also facilitates study, letters and expanding ones social horizons.

Oct 12, Jupiter SD
Think big! Generosity and kindness are indicated. It’s okay to focus on the big picture, never mind the gritty details. Good for progress of any kind.

Oct 17, New Moon 25* Libra
The Moon trines the Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune in Aquarius: makes for great imagination, spurts of creativity, as it facilitates working with pictures and images, also visionary experiences. Enjoy! The air signs (Aquarius, Gemini, Libra) may need a bit of grounding today.

Scorpio, Oct 22 - Nov 20

Resilient, sexy and tenacious the Scorpios can be the tough cookies of the Zodiac. This resiliency may be well applied in the professional area these days, as their planet Pluto is making it’s way through Capricorn.

Oct 29, Sun square Mars, Saturn enters Libra
This can feel tense and edgy. The past is all gone and the future hasn’t quite manifested yet. Good for venturing into new territory.

Nov 2, Full Moon 10* Taurus, Venus trine Neptune
This’ll light up the annual Halloween / Day of the Dead celebrations, also good for romantic get-togethers. Passion rules!

Nov 4, Neptune SD
Intuition is at an all time high, and ’life is stranger than fiction’ these days. Your dreams may be more lucid or vivid than usual. Keep a notepad handy.

Nov 5, Sun conjunct Mercury
This opens deep insights into the working of things. Creates connectivity, which is good for outreach, studies and networking. .

Nov 10, Sun squares Jupiter
This goal oriented aspect is all about gathering energy. Make an effort to get ahead. .

Nov 15, Saturn square Pluto
The first of 3 squares in the next 3 months. Check the news for political shifts, the beginning of new power structures.

Nov 16, New Moon 25* Scorpio
An excellent time for going deep, either by introspection, counseling or the healing arts.

Nov 19, Venus square Mars
Likely to bring up latent relationship issues. Good for conflict resolution, dealing with the status quo.

Sagittarius, Nov 21 - Dec 20
The first week of Sag, Nov 23 - 30, comes with lots of minor Venus and Mercury aspects. It’s easy to connect with others, to share ideas and pleasant social activities.

Dec 1, Full Moon 10* Gemini, Uranus SD, Venus enters Sag
Variety is the spice of life, as Uranus triggers unusual ideas and solutions, and Venus in Sag loves adventure. Look out for sudden weather changes.

Dec 7, Mercury conjunct Pluto
Time to get to the bottom of things. Good for research, analysis and revelations of secrets.

Dec 10, Sun trine Mars
Here you can shine brightly, especially if you’re a fire sign (Aries, Leo or Sag) Comes with courage, pride and gutsy action.

Dec 16, New Moon 25* Sagittarius,
Here the Moon conjuncts the galactic center, which makes for easy access to the cosmic matrix. Good for downloading wisdom and understanding of the big picture.

Dec 17, Venus trine Mars
A fine time for couples, romance and pair bonding. Love Rules!

Dec 20, Mars SR, Jupiter conjunct Neptune
Mars turns retrograde until Mar 10, 2010. More on this in the next issue. The holiday season will be more mellow, graceful and compassionate, especially compared to last years… Enjoy!

A Slice of Heaven - Summer 2009

<div>Cancer, Jun 20 - Jul 21
Here is a look at this summer’s planetary line-up, which casts a pretty vivid picture. If the astrological weather this spring has been turbulent, then summer looks like it’s not going to slow down one bit either. We are heading into another eclipse cycle, as happens twice a year. It tends comes with rocky emotions and a high level of drama. Or, as we used to say, when I worked for the Psychic Eye Book Shop, a.k.a. the Psychic Sweat Shop: “Somebody is going to be upset!”

Cancer is a high drama sign to start with, as it is ruled by the Moon. Extra sensitive, extra emotional, and easy to retreat into it’s shell. Or to quietly scamper off sideways.
With the current eclipse cycle featuring to New Moon, early and late in the sign, this is surely going to be lively summer, both at home and abroad. Mostly affected are the cardinal signs: Capricorn, Aries, Cancer and Libra.

Read on for a glimpse at the planetary alignments:

Jun - 20, Sun enters Cancer at 10:46 pm
Summer Solstice, the shortest day and longest night of the year. Expect plenty of high energy exchanges going on this weekend. Good for social activity and for letting go of old patterns and blueprints.

Jun - 21,
Venus conjuncts Mars at 15* Taurus.
This magical degree in the middle of fixed signs is strongly connected with the spirit realm, namely the archangels. So, whether you are currently in a relationship, in between, getting over it, or up for new beginnings, tonight’s the night to say your prayers or go on the prowl looking for trouble.

Jun - 22
New Moon 2* Cancer.
Can it get any more intense? The opposition to Pluto new pacts, manifestos, statements of intent, and realigning your commitments.

Jul - 1
Uranus SR 27* Pisces
Unusually restless vibes for the holiday national weekend. People will feel frisky and inclined to abandon all caution. Be assertive about your personal boundaries on that one, or get real reckless and into uncharted territory..

Jul - 7
Lunar Eclipse 15* Capricorn, There have been some interesting crop circles in England this spring, that indicate a major Solar Flare on that day. A fine time to be prepared for possible power outs. Just for the heck of it, and to err on the side of caution, do update your emergency preparedness kit and procedures.

Jul - 10
Jupiter ret. conjunct Neptune
Today is extra dreamy and intuitive, check the news for unusual occurrences. Look out in traffic for a few space cadets, happily skipping along on cloud 9.

Jul - 11
Mars enters Gemini
Think of it as a ram in the library. Pushing, shoving, and messing with the flow of information, which may be going any which way..

Jul - 21
Solar Eclipse 29* Cancer
Good for finishing up family affairs, getting closure on things. Moving on.

Leo, Jul 22 - Aug 21
This part of summer is the best time for self care, or getting away from it all. The Leo is a natural born leader, and the current line-up can be summarized to the old hippie credo / admonishment: “Do your thing!”

Aug - 5
Lunar Eclipse 14* Aquarius
Here you get to ‘do your thing’ with friends, and in public. Good for gatherings and humanitarian activities of any kind.

Aug - 14
Sun opposes Jupiter
Any aspect to Jupiter comes with a tendency to blow things out of proportion. In this case look out for inflated egos, and a pin ...

Aug - 17
Sun opposes Neptune, Chiron, Mars trines Neptune
Watch out in traffic because a bunch of people will be driving sleep at the wheel, or on autopilot . Good for romance, not great for rational thinking, or the giving and receiving directions. Keep your feet on the ground and avoid confusion. Accept that reality is not what it used to be.

Aug - 20
New Moon 27* Leo
Going in, in order to go out. Comes with potential for visionary activities, vivid dreams, keen intuition, and a look at the vast, big picture.

Virgo, Aug 22 - Sep 21
Most inclined to provide meaningful service, this sign has been bogged down by Saturn’s transit for the last couple of years. Comes with hard work, something no Virgo is afraid of, long hours and increased responsibilities. Feel’s like a heavy, wet blanket. The good news: Saturn is about to move on, into Libra this Fall.

Aug - 23
Sun trines Pluto
Today is all about empowerment, be confident in business and personal matters.

Aug - 25
Mars enters Cancer, Mercury enters Libra, Mercury square Mars
0* cardinal: initiate! Good for meeting people, breakthroughs in negotiations and embarking in new ventures.

Aug - 26
Mars opposes Pluto, Mercury squares Pluto
There can be high tension or conflicts of interest. Be aware of misunderstandings and a pervasive, general blockheadedness.

Sep - 4
Fullmoon 12* Pisces
Dream on! Life can be more magical than fiction, so go on gently into the Labor Days weekend.

Sep - 6
Mercury SR at 6* Libra, will go direct at 21* Virgo on Sep - 30
Allows you to re- everything. Re-do, re-consider, re-evaluate relationships. What you have learned from each other so, far, where you’d like to go. Good for acceptance, tolerance, radical honesty, going deep.

A Slice of Heaven - November 2008

<a href="http://people.tribe.net/lolababalon/blog/a46b8b2b-941f-4337-b662-b5f9bd02d079"> <img class=" picThumb" src="http://images.tribe.net/tribe/upload/photo/610/a27/610a273c-2883-4bbd-8f12-80cebecfddbb.thumb" width="65" height="48" alt="" />
    </a>
<div>As the year draws to a close, and the world markets are in turmoil, there is a rollercoaster of change going on, that’s challenging the status quo. Some of these changes are subtle, others more obvious, in your face.
In these trying times it helps to cultivate patience, perseverance, stay in the moment and deal with what is. Who would have thought that the currencies, stock indexes and oil prices could fluctuate like that? Less than six month ago we were paying $5.- per gallon gasoline. However: What goes up must come down. And: “Nothing fails like success“. (quote from Osho)
This unified, global happening brings up the core values of what makes life worth living. Love, support, nurturing each other, protecting the children, nature, enjoying each moment of each day. Cultivate gratitude for this experience here and now, give thanks for this opportunity to go along for the ride. Use your awareness, and don’t resisting anything.
So, lets do look at the bright side, simplify, make good use of resources, and cultivate friendships as the best of assets.

Scorpio - the tough cookies of the Zodiac
The pervasiveness of autumn growing cooler and darker, and the ghoulish holidays of Halloween and All Saints Day fall into the sign of Scorpio. It’s a resilient sign, that’s represented by powerful animals: the eagle, the snake and the scorpion.
It’s also associated with the mythical phoenix rising from the ashes. Those born under the sign are able to transmute the most challenging experiences. There is a sultry sex appeal that comes with a keen interest in metaphysical matters, and an ability to look straight into the core of things. Can be secretive, behind the scenes. Do not make them mad, as you will likely regret it. Intensely emotional and passionate, a Scorpio is a ‘force majeure’ to behold.

Congratulations to the famous, feisty Topanga Scorpio’s:
Aaron Hendry, Antonia Bath &amp; husband Michael, Janice Harmon, Bo Tasker, Lacey Brooks, Eric De Cook, Jane Marla Robbins, Heidi Light, Jed Levy, Jackie Kane, Kevin Kerber, Olaf Hartmann, Randy Harrison, Daryl Vance, Barry Newton, Ami Kirby and for all others not mentioned here.
Cheers and happy birthday one and all. May it be a most excellent year on all levels!

Calendar

Nov 1
All Saints Day Neptune SD
Today the doors between ordinary and non-ordinary reality are wide open. It is customary to honor and celebrate ones ancestors. The ceremony can be as simple as lighting a candle, a prayer, a bit of food left outside, an altar with candy and some photos. Or as elaborate as the Catholic ceremony, or Dia Del Los Muertos camp outs at the graveyard.

Nov 3
Venus square Saturn, square Uranus. Mars square Neptune
This adds plenty of tension leading up to election day. Much potential for confusion, loss of focus or direction.

Nov 4
Election day
Saturn opposes Uranus, Mercury enters Scorpio
Emphasizes the predictable tension between the tried and true conservative set, and the innovators who promise or endeavor to change everything. The Saturn/ Uranus aspect is in effect for the next two years. It indicates a major de-conditioning of social and economic systems, similar to the revolutionary movements in the early 30ties and mid 60ties.

Nov 10
Sun sextile Jupiter, trine Uranus
A fine time for peace making efforts, as it brings inspiration, cooperation and out of the blue solutions. Look out for Aha! moments.

Nov 11
Sun sextile Saturn, Venus conjunct Pluto
The first aspect is good for business meetings and establishing agreement. The next makes for tense situations and now or never type of ultimatums. Remember, there is no need to push the river today, as there is always tomorrow.

Nov 12, 10:17 pm
Full Moon 21* Taurus
Venus enters Capricorn, Jupiter sextile Uranus
This should be good news for business, or break through solutions on the global financial front. A fine time to support progress and take on some new strategies.

Nov 13
Sun square Neptune
Be on the lookout for mental overload or fuzziness. May bring up tension between action oriented doers and evasive, non committal procrastinators.

Nov 15
Mercury trine Uranus
This facilitates inventive, highly creative and unconventional ideas. Carry a notepad or voice recorder to capture any flashes of inspiration.

Nov 16
Mars enters Sagittarius, Mercury sextile Jupiter, sextile Uranus
A high energy day where you can tackle big projects and get a lot done. Think big picture, and outside the box. Be bold and adventuresome.

Nov 17
Mercury square Neptune
May trigger misunderstandings and the occasional reality check. So make sure to get your details right.

Nov 21
Sun enters Sagittarius
Comes with the refreshing realization that radical honesty rules, at least it‘s getting results. Also encourages you to get out of doors, to have more freedom to roam. More about the happy-go-lucky centaurs of the Zodiac in the next issue.

Nov 22
Mercury enters Sagittarius
The trickster of the planets adds more mischief to the mix. Look out for free spirits and expanding horizons all the way around.

Nov 25
Sun conjunct Mercury
This makes for mental tension during the pre-holiday season. Expect restless, antsy party guests.

Nov 26
Pluto enters Capricorn for good.
This aspect will trigger major changes in the way business is being done. Go for quality over quantity, many eggs in many baskets. Shift happens!

Nov 27
New Moon 6* Sagittarius
Uranus SD
Thanksgiving Day comes with a tender, introverted mood and much desire to break out of ruts. Enjoy! www.gogratitude.com

Nov 28
Venus sextile Uranus, Mercury conjunct Mars
Today expect the unexpected. So look out and pay attention to daring, competitive behavior.

Nov 29
Venus sextile Saturn
Good for business and money matters, as it enables you to talk about everything. At the least feel encouraged to give it a try, get your words out.

A Slice of Heaven - Oct 2008

<div>The planets and their cycles deeply influence the collective minds and interactions. This influence can be rather subtle, and occasionally it’s not so subtle at all, but right in your face. While there are numerous systems, tools and techniques to the art of astrology, they all seem to work somehow, once you start paying attention to them.
So, try this one on for size:

Libra, the charmers of the Zodiac
Pleasant, easy going, well dressed and ultra cooperative, these folks are good at making life easy for the rest of us. Their aim is to please, and help everybody get along, to the point of seeking consensus at all costs. Ruled by the lovely Venus they are graceful, creative and appreciate the finer sides of life, namely art and beauty.

This pretty picture is currently skewed off center by Mercury retrograde in the sign until Oct 15. Expect to re-evaluate and re-assess your involvements with others. Also be prepared to address any needed balance between giving and receiving.

Venus, Libras ruling planet is already ahead of the Sun in the feisty sign of Scorpio. Along with Mars which is in extra macho mode here, in it’s home turf. The gods of love and war’s residence in Scorpio can bring about a dark, obsessive emotionality, that is driven by passions beyond rational control.

Fortunately Jupiter in Capricorn is in trine aspect to Saturn in Virgo all month long. While there is little to cheer about on the global economic front, at least there is good cooperation, and collective efforts to sort things out. The earth signs (Capricorn, Virgo &amp; Taurus) are being called on to help others by keeping their feet on the ground.

Famous Topanga Libra’s:
Darby Warren, Debra Silbar, Jackie Johnson, James Dean, Jim Crawford, Johnathan Yaney, Julia Sugarman, Julian Scott, Kathy Gibbony, Livia Salamon, Patrice Winter, Suzanne Teng, and all those not mentioned here. Cheers to all and happy birthday, may it be your best year ever.

Calendar

Oct 1
Mars sextile Pluto
The month starts with 4 of the planets visible in the evening sky: The Moon, Venus, Mars and Jupiter. Say hello to them if you’re inclined, in the west, just after sunset.
Today is also a fine day to chat up your boss, your bookkeeper or benefactor.

Oct 3
Mars enters Scorpio
For the next 6 weeks you can enjoy a much needed resiliency and resourcefulness. This will add a certain edge to the pleasant, charming Libra interactions. Make good use of all your connections, perseverance furthers!

Oct 6
Sun square Jupiter, Sun conjunct Mercury, Mercury square Jupiter
Indicates a big day with plenty of tension build-up. Expect loads of excess mental energy, as things are coming to a head. Consider going for a walk, reconnect with nature or do something physical to get out of the head and into the body.

Oct 9
Venus trine Uranus
Today community and friendship rules! It is a fine time to get together with old friends or lovers from the past. Also feel encouraged to express your quirky fashion sense.

Oct 11
Venus square Neptune
This inclines to romantic infatuation, and tends to blow things out of proportion. Keep your feet firmly planted on the ground. Avoid over eating, over spending and over doing things.

Oct 14, 1:02 pm
Full Moon 22* Aries, Sun trine Neptune
Since there are few planets in fire signs this month, the Aries Moon adds a good spark to fire things up. The cardinal signs (Capricorn, Aries, Cancer &amp; Libra) will likely feel this as a drive to ‘must do something right now’.
May bring up issues around taking care of yourself, versus taking care of others. Remember to keep looking out for #1. Expect volatile tempers and short fuses all the way around. Some will be antsy and others ecstatic, as the Sun / Neptune aspect facilitates flights of fancy, keen intuition and breakthrough spiritual experiences.

Oct 15
Mercury SD (stations direct)
After three weeks of things being on hold, and indecisive hankering you can finally make progress and get ahead. Cheers to evolution!

Oct 18
Venus enters Sagittarius
A fine time to go adventuring, preferably in the great outdoors. Comes with a desire for unrestricted movement, fresh air and multi cultural tolerance.

This aspect will likely trigger bright ideas, fresh sparks of insight, inventiveness and creativity. Make sure to have a notepad handy.

Oct 31
Halloween, Mars trine Uranus
The Halloween tradition signifies the descent into the dark season, as the veil between life and death is very thin. We honor the ancestor that have gone before us, that the transitions of those that have passed during the year. We also get to dress up as our alter ego, worst nightmares or kinky fantasy.
This year the holiday falls close to the dark part of the Moon cycle. Expect to feel less social and more introverted. Mars Uranus adds a daring element and need for excitement. Look out for alien out-fits and space cadets.

<div>Fasten your seatbelts everyone, as the current astrological weather indicates some lively times ahead. Here is a look at what the planets are up to this month:

There is a team of players in the fairness minded sign of Libra: Mercury, Venus and Mars, are all squared off to Jupiter in righteous Capricorn. What could this imply? General tension, and an appeal to humanitarian, educational causes. It is an action oriented time. Tackle whatever needs to be done, there is no use to procrastinate or resist change. “Be the change you want to see” and lets get on with it already.
This line-up will have an effect on the cardinal signs (Capricorn, Aries, Cancer, Libra) Expect some major activity or breakthroughs in relationships, possibly on a global scale. Now is the time to negotiate, cooperate and expand to include all aspects of the mystery unfolding.
It’s likely that all this excitement is going to ruffle the feathers of the usually so calmly composed and proper Virgo folks. That, along with Saturn’s passage through the sign, which brings a call to duty or service orientation. So, here we go again: hard work, do the right thing and charity towards others.

Famous Topanga Virgo’s:
Francesca Forese, Sandra Bacall, Elizabeth Golden, Tanja Hunger, Lala McClave, Willow Ross, Joachim Wiesel, Eric Lynn, Lee Michaelson (born on Leo’s cusp, but leaning to the Virgo side) Happy birthday one and all, cheers to another year of new beginnings!

Calendar

Sep 3
Sun conjunct Saturn
Today the mood is sober and on the pessimistic side. Best to focus on career and money matters, also good for planning and strategy. Reality check.

Sep 4
Sun trine Jupiter
This aspect benefits education, negotiations and business meetings. There is a general feeling of optimism. So think big, invite the higher mind, take a look at the bright side. “There is a crack, a crack in anything. That’s how the light gets in.” Leonard Cohen

Sep 7
Mars square Jupiter
Extra yang influence, comes with hard headedness, and zero desire to compromise. Also Jupiter SD (stations direct) today: it’s gregarious and overly confident, with a marked tendency to get carried away.

Sep 8
Mercury conjunct Mars
The week starts with a big day full of mischief making aspects. Volatile tempers, long talks between guys, good for male bonding. Jupiter trines Saturn: facilitates financial and business matters. And Pluto SD (station direct): Pluto is a power player, so expect to see tough guy attitudes. This station indicates a deeper shift in peoples perspective, good for philosophical insights and realizations.

Sep 9
Venus square Jupiter
There is a tendency to over-doing things. Over spending, over indulging, over the top reactions leads to tension between partners and on money matters. Straighten out the checks and balances right away.

Sep 11
Venus conjunct Mars
Every time the forces behind love and war get together in the sky, marks the beginning of a new chapter in relationships. This happens about every two years, here it’s in the peace &amp; justice oriented sign of Libra. Both of them share the bed with Mercury the mischief maker. Here is important to focus on clear communication between partners, and being both generous and inclusive. Make the relationship big enough to contain all opposites and idiosyncrasies. Love as agape, to unconditionally love and support what’s best for everyone, to help each other grow.

Sep 12

This energy won’t be fenced in, censored or restrained in any way. Comes with a need to break outside the box, or freely roam the countryside.

Sep 14

This brings a strong, innate sense of fairness, and can trigger impulsive reactions with little fore or hindsight. Stay in the moment, there is no need to push the river.

Sep 22, 2:11 am,

Always a turning point, and with half of the planets in air signs, this is a volatile and anything-can-happen time. Strong collective sentiments, breakthrough information and new ideas. Take a good look at the big picture, never mind the small stuff.

Sep 23
Mercury conjunct Mars
Volatile tempers or multitasking gone awry, too much of a good thing. Venus enters Scorpio, which shifts emotions towards possessiveness, drama and high intensity exchanges. Good for getting caught up with unfinished stuff from the past.

Sep 24
Mercury SR
Retrogrades are times to reflect, redo, revisit, reevaluate, prepare things for later, go back to the past. As the trickster travels backwards through the sign of Libra people get to reassess their relationship patterns and agendas.

Sep 28
Mercury Ret trine Neptune
Brings clear intuition, and thinking in pictures, good for visual artists. Pack your camera.

Sep 29, 1:12 am
New Moon 7* Libra
So much activity in the sign of the scales can be unsettling. Chances are the precarious checks and balances are teetering wildly out of sync, and a bit of calm down and introspection is in order.
A fine time for making new beginnings in relationships, to reaffirms your existing ones or prepare for those to come.

<div>Here is another look at what the planets have in store this month.
Eclipse cycles happen twice each year, often triggering high drama events of emotional intensity. This month there will be two of them, one week before and one week into the Olympic Games, symbolically bracketing the international event. Both fall into the regal sign of Leo, which has plenty of drama to spare as it is. This will likely add fuel to the fire and bodes for exciting times. The fixed signs (Aquarius, Taurus, Leo, Scorpio) are going to feel this most, especially when born around the 1st or 16th of the month. The other fire signs (Aries, Sagittarius) born around these days may benefit as well.

Bernadette Brady, an eminent eclipse researcher writes this about the Aug 1 event :
“This (Eclipse) Series concerns itself with breaking out if a very negative situation where no hope can be seen to a more positive space containing many options. A worry that may have been affecting a person will suddenly clear. The solution is shown by the Cosmos and needs to be taken up without to much delay.”
Quote from The Eagle and the Lark, Weiser 1992

During the second half of the month Venus, Mercury and the Sun will join Mars and Saturn in Virgo. That’s half of the planets in the hard working, practical sign of the healer, book keeper and nutritionist. This sets the tone for much inner healing, conscious choices in the produce section and much gratitude for being able to serve one another.

Famous Topanga Leos:
Randy Smith, Linda Crawford, Lisa Bialac-Jehle, Michael O’Rourke, Juliana McNaughton, Allan Wingate, Elizabeth Shapiro, Robyn Feeley, Jenise Blanc, Gilbert Levy, Angele Dayer, Amy Walker, Malcolm Groome, Star Oakland, Lon Miller, Warren Chase and all the other great lights not mentioned here.
Happy Birthday one and all, have a blast!

Calendar:

Aug 1, 2:13 am PDT
Solar Eclipse / New Moon 10* Leo
4 planets in Leo makes for a dramatic entry into the month. A call to remember the need for self expression. Introversion comes with loads of creativity, so dig out your easel, instruments or sewing machine.

Aug 4
Venus trine Pluto
Good for tackling unfinished business with old lovers, especially if there’s a Scorpio involved. Call them up, get together and shine some light into the murky past.

Aug 5
Venus enters Virgo
A shift toward more practical, no-frills sentiments. Not a great day for shopping. When Venus is in a new sign the sense of esthetics changes. A style that looks great in the mirror today, may do nothing for you tomorrow.

Aug 6
Mars opposes Uranus
Restless, antsy, feisty energy. Not a great time for confrontations of any kind, opt for some outdoor activity instead. Also Mercury opposes Neptune today: the psychic radar is at an all time high. However, both these aspects together can trigger gross misjudgments of speed or distance. Watch out in traffic.

Aug 9
Mercury trines Pluto
Good for deep thinking, philosophical discourse, counseling, writing and spiritual inquiries.

Aug 10

This is the home turf for the trickster of the planets. The mental processes shift toward being more methodical, analytical and helpful to those in need.

Aug 13
Venus conjunct Saturn
It’s a no-nonsense, taking care of business kind of day. Work hard, brainstorm, make a few to do lists.

Aug 15
Sun opposes Neptune
This clouds the perception with a dreamy layer. Good for artwork and music, not great for linear thinking. Also Mercury conjuncts Saturn which makes it difficult to get your words out. It also favors less liberal and more conservative viewpoints.

Aug 16, 2:16 pm PDT
Lunar Eclipse, Full Moon 24* Aquarius
Always a fun time to get together with friends, this Moon opens a clearer look at the big picture. Good for meditation, spiritual quests and prayers. Because the Moon is conjunct Neptune any intoxicant will effect you more strongly today, so be conscious when eating, drinking or smoking. Also Mars squares Pluto today, which raises the potential for violence and or painful accidents involving things you didn’t see coming.

Aug 17
Mercury trines Jupiter
This encourages brilliant ideas, it’s great for writing, talking and negotiations. Make sure to get your message out today.

Aug 19
Mars enters Libra
Mars in the first degrees of a cardinal signs is extra feisty, so take it easy and be prepared to intervene or calm the tempers of those that get carried away.

Aug 20
Sun trine Pluto
A good time to negotiate or for power talks. Don’t mince your words or be bashful now, say it as it is.

Aug 21
Mercury conjunct Venus
This makes for strong instincts and impulsive reaction, it’s not great for tasks involving patient attention to detail. Try to tackle the extra large projects instead.

Aug 22
Sun enters Virgo
With 4 planets in Virgo there is a sense of responsibility to those in need. Good for cooking, making dietary changes and organizing things. Mercury opposes Uranus: impatience and a desire to try something totally new and different.

Aug 23
Venus opposes Uranus
Feeling antsy and rebellious, can’t be fenced in or limited by too much conservative caution. You inner rebel wants to shine.

Aug 27
Mercury square Pluto
Get your words out now, good for counseling, deep conversations.

Aug 28
Mercury enters Libra
The collective focus shifts towards fairness and balance. Less finicky, more deliberate. Slow, careful decision making processes.

Aug 29
Venus square Pluto
Intensity yes, passion yes, jealousy no. “Love and control are mutually exclusive. When you’re in love you’re not in control, when you’re in control you’re not in love.” Osho

Aug 30, 12:58 pm PDT
New Moon 8* Virgo, Venus enters Libra
The second New Moon this month is excellent for inner healing. Consider nurturing the heart, changing your patterns, fasting , praying and cleaning the house.

<div>by Lola Babalon

The tides have turned and summer season is upon us. If the heat wave during the solstice is any indication of things to come, it’ll be scorcher. At this time we experience rapid changes in economy, major wake up calls and globally expanding awareness. The US uses how many plastic water bottles and bags per second?
Drivers get into the habit of keeping the gas tank topped off, because it won’t be getting any cheaper tomorrow. The wheels of the affluent consumer society are coming off at an alarming rate. People are busily reprioritizing and reevaluating the money flow in their lives. We seemingly can’t get away with anything these days. There isn’t much slack in the social fabric, and every individual is called on to be and do their very best.

Cancer / Capricorn Polarity
This month we celebrate the birthdays of the tender Cancer folks. These are the shy, behind the scenes types, the homebodies, impeccable hosts, wonderful cooks, nurturing parents and capable professionals.
The professional element comes from the polarity between Cancer and Capricorn, it’s opposite sign. With the Moon and Saturn as rulers of these opposite signs, this polarity illustrates the matriarch and patriarch role models in our lives. The Moon rules the ever changing cycles in nature, while Saturn provides structure and purpose. Because of Pluto’s recent sign change into Capricorn, we can expect a whole generational change in meaning, purpose and how global business is done.
Polarizing issues will likely include shifts in spiritual versus professional values. The collective seeks to find or create a family of choice, as tribal alliances and communities come together. This includes temporary tribes that have evolved over the years as a cultural phenomenon, such a the Burning Man Tribe, Rainbow Family or religious gatherings.
It’s all about synchronicity, entrainment and kindred spirits coming together. Collective enjoyment of music brings people into one rhythm, alignment. So whatever the plan is for this summer, let the heart be in it, be inclusive. It’s time to make the family big enough for everybody, to hold no grudges, let go of judgment, blaming, resentment or frustration. It is what it is, and it’s all good. And if things are no good, there still is a good teaching after all.

Famous Topanga Cancer:
Claire Humphries, Stevie Re, James Anders, Pam Fomalont, Danny Vickers, Susan Hartman, Bill Buerge, Gary Cobb, Andre Dayani, Doug Farren and Eric Rasmussen, who is born right on the Leo cusp. Cheers and good wishes to all the other tender Cancer folks, who are probably hiding out at home: May it be your best year ever!

Calendar:

Jul 1
Mars enters Virgo
Get ready for the next couple of months to focus on less play and more hard work. This aspect facilitates meaningful service to others, and benefits the healing arts. Good for bodywork and for making dietary changes toward lean and green.

Jul 2
New Moon in Cancer, Venus opposes Jupiter
A highly emotional time, easily carried away. Good for going inward and to honor the matriarchs in your life. Comes with irrational, moody energy. Avoid overindulgence, which is a common tendency during Venus Jupiter aspects.

July 9
Sun opposes Jupiter
This aspect is good for negotiations and power talks. However, you may also feel overly optimistic, inclined to over react or overdo things. The Earth signs (Capricorn, Virgo, Taurus) should definitely try to cool their jets and go easy on themselves and others. Watch out for collective tension build up.

Jul 10
Mars conjunct Saturn, Mercury enters Cancer
Watch out for collective tension release. Today comes with extra yang energy, strong work ethics and willingness to do the right thing. Avoid fundamental arguments, confrontations and righteousness. Mercury’s sign change brings a couple of weeks of uncommon delicacy to conversations and emotional matters.

Jul 12
Venus enters Leo
The beginning of a 3 week opportunity for high drama and radical self expression. So feel encouraged to bring out your flashiest summer dresses ladies, or your brightest duds guys. It’s time be seen.

Jul 18
Full Moon 26* Capricorn
Sets the tone for a lively party weekend, that is good for mixing business and pleasure. Consider being inclusive of, and honoring the patriarchs in your life. Maybe it’s time to take Grandpa on a little adventure. Dealing with family matters may bring a growing desire to be free from the restraints of tradition or orthodoxy. Time for stretching the envelope or a good peak outside the box.

Jul 22
Sun enters Leo
Here is a reminder that life is ultimately all about self realization. You are here to discover and grow into your innate potential, so don’t compromise now. Good for non-verbal art forms like music, dance, painting and sculpting.
More about Leo, the kings and queens of the zodiac in the next issue.

Jul 26
Mercury enters Leo
Now is the time to say it as it is. There is no need to whitewash the facts or beat around the bush. Also Mars trines Jupiter brings the courage to tackle big projects, to work hard and get the job done.

Jul 29
Sun conjunct Mercury
Use caution in negotiations and power talks today. People are more edgy, impatient and prone to over dramatize the situation. Slow down, be methodical and take some time out for exercise, just to get out of your head and back into the body.

Jul 31
Venus opposes Neptune
This aspect can make you feel a bit dreamy or out of it. Good for romance, taking pictures and visual arts, less great for business. Counter balance this effect by keeping your feet on the ground. So, take off the pink glasses, refrain from judgment, look at the bright side and flash a big smile. Cheers!

A Slice of Heaven - June 08

<div>The planetary cycles don’t cause things to happen, they just amplify certain probabilities. Astrology is the art of translating these planetary probabilities into common sense. Astrological symbolism is as old as mankind and best learned in small doses.
A Slice of Heaven provides a glimpse into the current influences. It examines what happens in the heavens above and how it effects the everyday experience here on earth.

The month starts with a stellium in Gemini, as the Sun, Moon, Venus and Mercury retrograde are all cavorting in the ambidextrous, multi faceted sign. Gemini and Pisces are the two dual signs in the zodiac. As Gemini is an air sign this duality manifests as an intellectual orientation, while the duality of Pisces are in the emotional realm, more feeling, less thinking. During this current mega Gemini influence people will really want to get their words out, communicate freely and look at the many options on the table. This is good for connecting the dots, reconnecting with people, places and things.
8 of 10 planets are in earth and air element, that’s heavy on logic and reason, only Mars in Leo and Uranus in Pisces to hold up the emotional polarity.

Mercury
The classical Mercury was a messenger between the gods and mortals, often depicted as a hermaphrodite - with the physical characteristics of both genders, being androgynous, somewhere in-between. This in-between-ness of Mercury is an important aspect for understanding the sign of Gemini. All apparent opposites are embodied, which can be confusing to those with more straight-laced, goal oriented mindsets. The Gemini individual can hop, skip and jump from one aspect of their colorful personality, from one minute to the next. This also applies to people who where born with Mercury close to the Sun.
Since Mercury is the planet that orbits closest to the Sun, it is a bit more erratic in its motion. Hot air anyone? The planetary paths are somewhat elliptical, when observed from the earth and against the background of the zodiac they appear to go backward at times. Mercury, because of its tighter orb goes into retrograde motion more frequently than any other planet, about three times per year for the duration of about three weeks each.
When Mercury is retrograde its influence is felt more strongly, as the sign it retrogrades through becomes charged with mercurial mischief. Communication can be difficult, mechanical things tend to break down, letters and messages may be lost or misplaced. Weird synchronicities and repetitions. Good for reconnecting with the known, not great for starting new projects or signing contracts.
Whatever you do during Mercury retrograde you’ll likely get to do again, which is good for some things like fun and games, and not good for others like major dental work.

This current retrograde ends on June 19 Mercury turns direct, when the wheels of progress will be chugging along again.

Famous Topanga Gemini:
Happy birthday, much love and blessings to Claire Davis, Jean Francis, Mollie Hogan, Chryssa Lightheart, Adam Scott, Lisa Villasenor, Henry Smith, Randy Just, Elaine Alghani, Jane McAllister, Andrea Walker, Delphine Scoffield, Roland Van Loon and all others not mentioned here. Cheers!

A few highlights:

Jun 3
New Moon 14* Gemini
A fine day for exploring all your options and opportunities. Good for connecting with peers, siblings and people from your past, also for initiating correspondence. Don’t limit your choices now, everything is possible!

Jun 7
Sun conjunct Mercury ret, Moon in Leo eclipses Mars
There is much nervous, restless energy today. Comes with a tendency to skim the surface of things, while unable to go deep or concentrate.

Jun 8
Sun conjunct Venus
Always a fine time to enjoy the magic of life in all it’s forms and expressions. Comes with an increased sense of fairness, appreciations and being open to each other. Auspicious for beginning new relationships. Love rules!

Jun 12
Venus and Sun square Uranus
This line-up is all about individuation, the need for personal space and freedom. It can trigger impulsive reactions, bursts of sudden eccentricities. Good for radical self expression, not great for boring tasks. Expect a few monkey wrenches.

Jun 18
Full Moon 28* Sagittarius
This Moon is conjunct Pluto in the last degree of the sign. It makes for much pressure to complete things or to make them happen. People are inclined to speak their mind without restraint or self censoring. Look out for some juicy revelations or “Oops!” moments in the news. Mercury has no aspects at all, a singleton, doing it’s own thing.

Jun 19
Mercury SD
Here the gears are shifting into neutral and get ready to accelerate towards action. No more re-doing the past, go for what’s new and exciting. It is also okay to sign those papers, leases or contracts at this time.

Jun 20
Sun opposes Pluto, enters Cancer, Summer Solstice
A powerful shift into the next season. As the days are longest, and solar energy is at it’s peak, the Sun also aspects the lord of the underworld. Pluto takes down all that has outlived it‘s usefulness, and opens the door for new times to come.
Oppositions create a strong magnetic pull, comes with an urge to “must do something”, especially for the cardinal signs (Capricorn, Aries, Cancer, Libra)

Jun 21
Mars opposes Neptune
This aspect has a potential for deception or trickery. Cause and effect may be confused, peoples goals and motivations misunderstood. Keep your eye on the ball, and pay attention in crowds or in traffic.

Jun 26
Uranus SR
Are you feeling a bit radical, antsy, or feisty these days? It’s a transit, it will pass, but do enjoy the excitement that comes with the territory.

<div>The merry month of May finds Topanga in a rush of wildflowers and botanical abandon everywhere. Seems it has not been so green in years. Green is a topic for Taurus, the sign whose birthday is celebrated this month, the most earthy of earth signs.

The sign of the bull belongs to the earth element, and is of a fixed nature. The four elements fire, earth, air and water each relate to the three modalities of cardinal, fixed and mutable. Cardinal signs are considered decisive, and active, go-getters, in approaching any given set of circumstances. Mutable signs are inclined to go with the flow and able to adapt to any given circumstance. Fixed signs achieve things rather by persistence and determination. They rely on effort and can be rather opinionated, read stubbornness.

Taurus as the sign of fixed earth has a reputation for this. But Taurus is also the most sensuous, charming, and peace loving sign, as the planet Venus rules it. Taurus people are value oriented. Their values are down to earth, and involve physical comfort. They have expensive tastes and desires, and need a certain amount of financial and emotional stability to thrive. Money and it’s management are important issues, and not always easy ones.

Because Venus rules Taurus, people born under its influence are creative and artistic. Many great musicians and singers are born under the sign. All kinds of art and beauty are appreciated, and frequently collected. Taurus is also the sign of the builder, gardener and engineer. There is a special love of nature and connection to the botanical realm. The sign can be quite emotional, as the Moon is exalted here. The two horns of the bull are symbols of the waxing and waning moon.

Happy Birthday to the famous Topanga Taurus folks:
Katie Dalsemer, Tonia Young, Douglas Roy, Gerrick Faust, Randy Johnson, Zofie Glick, Gail McTune, Nicki Ostrak, Kristina Rocco Levy, Julie Shore, Scott Grusin, Virginia Conesa, Tim O’Gara, Tinker Williams, Karen Horn, Linda Hinrichs, Ember Knight and all those not mentioned here.

All the best to one and all. May it be your best year, ever.

Here’s a preview to what’s in store for this month:

Calendar:

May 1
Venus trine Pluto, trine Saturn
Grand trine in the earth element makes it a magic day for setting intentions or embarking on major new projects.

May 2
Mercury enters Gemini, Saturn SD
When the swift footed messenger of the gods is in it’s own sign, things shift towards more diversity. You get to try out all the options, and tell everyone about it. Saturn moving out of retrograde and into forward gear adds a bit more push, to the shove of yesterdays alignment.

May 3
Mercury square Saturn
Feeling impatient and tension in personal interactions. Avoid arguments or blockheadedness. Take a break and relax if possible, the last word is not spoken yet.

May 5
New Moon 15* Taurus
No Fire and 6 planets in earth. An opportunity for grounding, springtime celebration and for laying down foundations. The Moon is exalted in the sign, and 15* is the most powerful spot for the fixed signs, it has a direct link to angelic influences.

May 9
Jupiter SR, Mars enters Leo
Today everything appears in large size proportions, and Mars in Leo adds more yang to the mix. Look out for pride, courage, high ideals and bold forms of self expression.

May 11
Sun sextile Uranus
This encourages lively exchanges and creative ideas. Sudden urges to be outdoors, barefoot or in the water. Good for meetings and fun exchanges between friends.

May 12
Sun trine Jupiter
Generosity and kindness pay off today. It adds a nice spark of optimism and reminder about the fact that life is good.

May 14
Sun square Neptune
Absentmindedness can lead to lapses in judgment. Pay attention on the road. If you have a blind spot it will attract things you didn’t see coming.

May 18
Venus sextile Uranus, trine Jupiter
A great weekend for social activities and get together of all kinds. People are generous, open minded and cooperative. Something good should come from it.

May 19
Full Moon 29* Scorpio
The second one in the steamy sign of Scorpio, is it intense enough yet? Here it’s about bringing things to a close, or taking them to another level. Moon and Mercury are in out of bounds declination, likely to behave in radical and unpredictable ways. High drama, low reason.

May 20
Sun enters Gemini
For the next 4 weeks things are lightening up as the collective mood shifts into a playful and more adaptable mode. During Taurus time everything is just so, during Gemini there are always multiple options.
More on this many faceted Trickster in the next issue.

May 21
Jupiter sextile Uranus
A fine day for meetings and conferences of all kinds. Good for financial , negotiations and fundraising for novel projects.

May 22
Sun square Saturn
Inclines to serious talks with others, and no-nonsense, practical solutions. Wear your business suit. High on reason, low on drama.

May 24
Venus enters Gemini
When Venus, Mercury and the Sun are all in one signs, it’s energy is amplified and quite apparent. Expect a variety of opportunities and a restless vibe. Long on words and short on patience.

May 26
Mercury SR, Neptune SR, Venus square Saturn
Mercury’s station on Memorial Day increases your chances or running into folks you have not met in years. While this is great for happy reunions, the Venus/Saturn aspect puts on a sobering reality check.

No exact aspects for the rest of the month.

<div>by Lola Babalon

Welcome to another peak at the ongoing planetary cycles.
The first part of the month provides a gradual shift from the intellectual into the more emotional realm, less deliberation, more flow. We celebrate the birthday of Pisces the Visionaries of the Zodiac.
Pisceans are tender, super sensitive, and have a certain other-worldly quality. The sign relates to the primal waters, the matrix of life. The planetary influence is Neptune, also known as the big diffuser. It rules the movie industry, visual arts, wishes, dreams and visionary experiences.
As the last sign Pisces is also a melting pot, that harbors the essence of the other Zodiac signs, in a kind of conglomerate, magical mix. Those born under the sign love to go with the flow and feel connected to the whole. The ‘urge to merge’ is strong, and the desire bond deeply in relationships. Often there a keen interest in metaphysics and the healing arts.

Happy Birthday to the fabulous, famous Topanga Pisceans:
Alan Ostrak, John Benedict, Melanie Kareem, Ken Widen, Kamakshi Hart, Julie Levine, Penny Chavez, Patricia Harkins-Judge, Gregory Humphries, Jerry Johnson, Jamie Sher, Michael Dean, Ross Sugarman, Yedvart Tchakerian, , Cosimo Rico, Tanya Starcevitch and of course to all others not mentioned here.

March is the greenest month, and thanks to the abundance of rain, the local hills are dipped in the emerald hue of mustard and oat straw. In Chinese medicine spring is the season of wood. It represent the drive of life force energy, is extra yang, hot and assertive. These are just the qualities of the sign of Aries, into which the Sun enters at the Spring Equinox. Towards the last third of the month the will be lots of that, read on for the details.

Calendar:

Mar 4
Mars enters Cancer, again, until May 9
Because of the recent retrograde motion, action oriented Mars has been haunting the tender sign of Cancer since October, now coming in for it’s last and final stretch. Re-do the kitchen, finish your home improvement projects, or heal any inter-generational family issues.

Mar 5
Moon eclipses Mercury, Venus and Neptune
That’s 4 out of 10 planets all in it together, in the quirky sign of Aquarius. This is bound to be an usual, think outside the box kind of influence, peaking today. The air signs (Aquarius, Gemini, Libra ) are going to feel this most, and everybody better fasten their seatbelts and keep their feet on the ground.

Mar 6
Sun sextile Jupiter, Venus conjunct Neptune
A fine day for studies, writing and romance. The first aspect improves communication on all levels. When Venus meets dreamy Neptune your judgment may be impaired, so be on the lookout for some folks floating by on cloud nine.

Mar 7
New Moon 18* Pisces, , Mars opposes Pluto
While Mars and Pluto have been dancing with this aspect for a while, in the cardinal mode this will flare tempers, incline to short fuses and urge to action. Everybody calm down and take a breather.

Mar 8
Sun conjunct Uranus
Brings on restlessness and unconventional ideas. Consider doing something totally new and different this weekend.

Mar 9
Mercury conjunct Neptune
This aspect may lead to gross misunderstanding or lack in reason or foresight. On the positive side it sparks much creativity, vivid dreams and deep insights.

Mar 12
Venus enters Pisces
Here the planet of love brings soft, mellow and romantic moods. Enjoy, it’ll be here until Apr 6.

Mar 13
Venus sextiles Pluto
A fine day for counseling, getting clear about relationships and “lets talk about sex, baby.”

Mar 14
Mars sextile Saturn, Mercury enters Pisces
The week winds down with opportunities for breakthroughs in negotiation and power talks. The psychic radar is on and running in high gear.

Mar 15
Venus opposes Saturn
A straight laced, no nonsense kind of attitude. Take charge or responsibility, good for budgeting and planning ahead.

Mar 16
Venus trines Mars
A fine day for deep bonding in love relationships. Since both planets are in water signs you may want to fire up the hot-tub, go for a walk by the beach, or…

Mar 17
Mercury opposes Saturn
Oppositions create a push and pull energy, here the dynamic is between rhyme and reason. Pisces has more rhyme and rhythm, while Virgo excels with reason.

Mar 18
Mercury trines Mars
Brings grand ideas, much creativity. Also a fine day for meetings and conferences, especially for wrapping things up.

Mar 19
Sun enters Aries, Spring Equinox 10:49 pm
Always a step into the next chapter. Comes with drive, initiative, boldness and courage. More info about the feisty sign of Aries in the next issue.

Mar 21
Sun square Pluto, Full Moon 2* Libra
This Moon is extra yang, with a majority of planets in angular houses and cardinal signs. Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorns will feel the urge to make it happen. Whatever is on the agenda, some things got to give.

Mar 24
Mercury conjunct Venus
Strong instincts with little fore or hindsight, look out for impulsiveness or over-reactions.

Mar 27
Mercury sextile Jupiter, conjunct Uranus
This influence brings finesse and charm to the negotiation table. It sparks creative ideas and inventiveness, so go ahead, be bold.

Mar 28
Venus sextile Jupiter, conjunct Uranus, Jupiter sextile Uranus
Like yesterday there are bright ideas and a busy social calendar. Good for intense dates and making new friends.

Mar 30
Sun square Mars
The month ends on an action oriented note. Like you must do something, anything. So don’t hesitate, just get the job done.

<div>Welcome to another glimpse to this months planetary alignments. Change is in the air, literally and figuratively, as the air signs are in for big awakenings. Air signs are easy to get along with. They are the intellectuals, creative minds and thinkers of the zodiac.
They bring in friendship and high ideals, (Aquarius), fun, games and diversions (Gemini), and a desire for peace, justice and consensus (Libra). So this month is an excellent time to think ahead, plan and exchange ideas with others. The Aquarians will feel this most strongly right now, as the Mercury retrograde throws in a few monkey wrenches. It stays in the sign for no less 9 weeks in total, that’s triple the usual transit time.
Mercury’s three yearly retrograde periods backtrack trough the elements. Last year the trickster planets backed from water into air signs, this year all retrogrades occur in air signs.
Take it as an intellectual challenge, a time for soul searching, soul retrieval, going back to the source of things. I’ll certainly be doing my own by returning to Europe for 2 months, starting Feb 20.
A majority of planets are in air signs this month, as Mars creeps it’s way out of Gemini. It has just turned from retrograde to forward motion, which means not quite up to it’s usual speed, yet. All this makes for inquisitive minds and long, windy conversations. Keep your phone charged and calendar nearby.

Aquarius
The second to last sign of the Zodiac is known for being unconventional, putting it mildly. Aquarians often sport humanitarian, nonconformist and bohemian attitudes. These are strong-willed, independent spirits with high ideals.
They make friends easily and are rarely ever lonely. Their friendships develop over long periods of time, building on mutual loyalty and trust. Often there is a wide circle of friends and acquaintances to support the Aquarians worldviews, ideas, and social needs.
Their best work is done in teams, and when focused on something new, exciting or unconventional. None of the rules and regulations that limit ordinary folks applies to this sign, who firmly resides outside the boxes that limit the more traditional types.

Famous Topanga Aquarians:
Muppe Glick, Sara Vaughan, Felix Sinnapan, Marsha Maus, Seth Lerner, Annemarie Solo, Barbara Allen, RD Denend, Milton ‘Falcon’ Peirrera, Ruth Lundi, Elaine Hanson, Rebecca Catterall, the late, great Vera Wood and all those not mentioned here. We celebrate you!

Calendar

Feb 1
Venus conjunct Jupiter
Love rules! Even in the practical sign of Capricorn this activates passion, one gets easily carried away. On the bright side there is optimism, charm and love connections. On the other hand you may be tempted to over indulge, over spend, over eat and play the lottery. Check the news for big wins or losses.

Feb 2
Mercury retrograde conjunct Neptune
This weekend brings keen intuitions, and a suspension of reason and rational thought. Good for inter species communication and psychic phenomena. Not great for linear thinking or math. The whole week is influenced strongly by Neptune, so stay grounded and if needed help those on cloud nine.

Feb 6
Solar Eclipse 18* Aquarius, New Moon
Eclipses tend to bring tense, and intense emotional experiences. Here in close proximity to Neptune it indicates major changes in collective thinking processes. Unity rules: “I am one, and you are one, and we are all together one…”

Feb 10
Sun conjunct Neptune
More of the above and then some. These are unusual, visionary times. Reality is not what it used to be. Good for visual arts, not great for business.

Feb 14
Sun trine Mars
This aspect on Valentine’s day will snap you out of the Neptunian day dream realm. It brings more vitality, assertiveness and vigor. Watch out for heroic efforts and deeds. Excellent for getting physical in any way you like it.

Feb 17
Venus enters Aquarius
The next 3 weeks are favorable for connecting with friends and kindred spirits. Reach for your ideals, communicate and set new goals. It’s all about intentions.

Feb 18
Mercury SD, Sun enters Pisces
A planetary station makes it’s energy become acutely apparent, Today Mercury turns direct, so don’t be surprised by odd synchronicities, absentmindedness and general mischief. The Sun in Pisces takes a dive into the emotional realm. Less detached, more compassionate. Rhyme, rather than reason. More about Pisces, the visionaries of the zodiac in the next issue.

Feb 19
Sun sextile Pluto
A time for goal setting, especially for cardinal signs. (Capricorn, Aries, Cancer, Libra) Opens new channels of communication, good for meeting and conferences.

Feb 20
Lunar Eclipse, Full Moon 2* Virgo
This one is very close to Saturn. It brings up healing issues, responsibilities and commitments. Good for a quiet, introspective, meditative time. Go deep!

Feb 24
Sun opposes Saturn
You may feel more serious and less playful today. Focus on career and money matters, plan ahead, especially if you’re a mutable sign. (Pisces, Gemini, Virgo &amp; Sagittarius)

Feb 26
Mercury conjunct Venus
This may feel like your head is suddenly hotwired to the heart. Since this aspect appears in the unconventional sign of Aquarius you can expect impulsive ideas, odd fashion sense that comes with little fore or hindsight…

To be continued.

Since I’ll be traveling expect the March and April issues coming from some Internet Café in Europe, fueled by what the Danish girlfriend used to call the “Euro-Okay-Diet“: coffee, carbs, meat, dairy, alcohol &amp; tobacco. Cheers!!

A Slice of Heaven - January 2008

<div>The beginning of a new year is always a time for good intentions. People take stock of how life has changed over the last year, and look forward and onward to where things are heading. The new year brings new cycles, wheels within wheels, as everything that goes around comes around.

Some people make wish lists, others resolve to quit this or that, be good. Try not to judge yourself too harshly if you fall off the wagon, life is tough enough already. There is no need to be your own worst critic or enemy on top of it. If anything, resolve to love yourself more, to support all of your parts and take it easy for a change. Love is the big healer, and love always starts on the inside.
As Saturn has moved into Virgo and with the recent major influx of Capricorn energy, this is a fine time for rational, practical matters. Less drama, more discipline. Less religious dogma, more earth connection. Less consumerism, more timeliness.

Pluto in Capricorn will be there for more than a decade. It will gradually change the political landscape and the way business is done. The more flexible and open to change you can be in these shifting times, the better.
The wheels of inflation and financial instability will likely keep turning, there is no going back to square one. It’s not how hard, but rather how smart you work. These times are more about helping each other out, doing what needs to be done. So take responsibility for your own well being, simplify your life, think ahead, organize and connect with others. You are only as strong as your community is, the network of friends and family.

“We trust, we fall, we rise to trust again. And we grow.” Chris &amp; Cosey

Capricorn
It is said that: “Capricorns are born old and grow younger."
As kids they are unusually mature and serious, often ahead of their age. The sign has a reputation for longevity, largely because of their conservative lifestyles. With age Cap’s do become more playful, creative and easy going. The sign tends to support the idea of law and order, and that there is a system somewhere, in the midst of the chaos. They are down to earth, with a no-nonsense, resilient and realistic attitude. Their practical nature tends to adopt a wide variety of skill sets.

Famous Topanga Capricorns:
Happy birthday one and all, much love and sweet blessings to Edwin Lemus, Julie McInally, Cynthia Scott, Joan Johnson, Conrad Ten Have, Michael Shore, Max Portman, Claire Cohn, Miles Tackett, Miles Teng Levy, Woody Hastings, Hanna Chusid, Stanley Lathers on the big island of Hawaii and yours truly Lola B.

Calendar

Jan 2
Mars ret. opposes Pluto
This is the second of three oppositions, one more to go next month. The influence is extra emotional, extra macho. Look out for border disputes, boundary issues, interspecies discord as domestic animals may turn on their humans and vice versa.

Jan 6
Sun sextile Uranus, Venus square Saturn
This makes for lively conversations as the young and hip generations can meet and greet the conservative set. Also facilitates connecting with friends.

Jan 8
New Moon in Capricorn
Good for reinventing your career or business. Make a plan, start long term projects or embark in new strategies. Today the earth signs rule: Capricorn, Virgo and Taurus.

Jan 12
Venus square Uranus
This makes people restless and feisty. Look out for unconventional types, with unusual tastes and outrageous fashion sense. Not your average date night.

Jan 16
Venus sextile Neptune
This supports the creative and visual arts. Enjoy photography, painting, drawing or just indulge your imagination.

Venus trine Saturn
A practical aspect, good for paperwork, preparing your taxes or dealing with money matters.

A Slice of Heaven - November 2007

<div>by Lola Babalon
Sorry for the delay in posting this. I have been exceedingly busy on all fronts, and it's a good thing. Here is a peek into the planets:

Halloween with it’s ghouls and goblins, and All Saints Day right after mark another transition in the yearly cycle. Here we embark in the darkest part of the year, as the Sun takes a symbolic trip into the underworld. From now until the winter solstice the nights are getting ever longer, even with the temporary benefit of ‘falling back’ into standard time.
Because the nights are long there is a tendency to add more light. Holiday decorations appear everywhere, as people gather and get ready to celebrate ‘the season‘. The big family gathering of Thanksgiving Day is on the horizon, just as the Sun moves into happy-go-lucky Sagittarius. November is a fine time to go inward, gather, reflect and renew. All these are good topics for the sign of Scorpio, who’s birthdays we celebrate during the first 3 weeks of this month.
Scorpio is ruled by the planet Pluto, also known as the lord of the underworld. It has a special affinity for the major heavies in life: sex, death and transformation. There is resiliency, combined with intense desires and a need for dramatic experiences.
Pluto governs the dark waters of the unconscious mind. Which makes Plutonian transits pretty intense and emotional. Pluto has a way about him that rips off the masks of smug pretensions, previously hidden truths can emerge and become manifest.
Before Pluto’s discovery Mars was considered the ruler of Scorpio. In the sign with the stinger Mars shares the “All-Destroyer/All-Begetter” qualities of the god Shiva in Indian mythology.
All that is torn down under Pluto needs rebuilding after. People go through transformational experiences in order to grow, not to be destroyed by them. All endings also mark new beginnings. Therefore it is a good idea to look at ones revelations, revolutions and personal power dynamics as a work in progress. One is always kicking something out in order to make room for something new.

Famous Topanga Scorpio’s:
Aaron Hendry, Antonia Bath, Lacey Brooks, Jackie Kane, Kevin Kerber, Olaf Hartmann, Randy Harrison, Daryl Vance, Barry Newton, Ami Kirby, Jean Colonomos and all others not mentioned here. Happy birthday one and all, may it be the most gratifying year ever!

Calendar

Nov 1
All Saints Day
Mercury SD (stations, going direct)
That helps! Finally it’s possible to get ahead, get things done and have more clarity and decisiveness. Good for taking care of paperwork, contracts and legal matters.

Nov 4
Sun trine Mars
The water signs (Pisces, Cancer, Scorpio) will feel this most: physical strength and courage, inclined to boldness. So don’t be shy now, it’s okay to let your assertive side show and take charge.

Nov 5
Venus square Pluto
Tension in relationships can lead to sudden bursts of jealousy or possessiveness. Take it easy today, there is no need to prove anything.

Nov 7
Sun trine Uranus
New ideas, openness to change, inventive, aha experiences, big light bulbs blinking overhead.

Nov 8
Venus enters Libra,
Coming back into her home turf Venus makes for refined tastes, diplomacy and tactful sensibilities. Consensus becomes easier. Mercury also sextiles Pluto, so whatever the topic, let’s talk about it.

Nov 9
New Moon in Scorpio
A fine time for going inward and reflecting on the year and make plans for the next one. If you cannot retreat you may find it’s an emotional roller-coaster. It’s easy to get carried away because half of the planets are in a ‘grand water trine’ configuration. On the other hand you may be confronted with things you don’t see coming. Watch the news for long held secrets coming to the surface.

Nov 11
Mercury enters Scorpio
Deep conversations, getting to the bottom of things. Also the Sun squares Neptune: loose your illusions. Illusions are a luxury, just like expectations. Disappointment is the price to pay for the indulgence, you may as well drop them right away.

Nov 15
Mars SR (station, going retrograde)
Assertiveness going inward. Good for taking care of family matters and home improvements. The cardinal signs (Capricorn, Aries, Cancer &amp; Libra) are going to feel this most. Give them a wide berth and a quiet space to retreat into.

Nov 16
Mercury sextile Saturn
Good for business meetings, conferences and negotiations of all kinds.

Nov 19
Venus square Mars,
Time to take action between lovers, enjoy the dance. Also Mercury trine Mars enables deep sharing of feelings, especially for the more reserved types

Nov 21
Mercury trine Uranus
Quirky, restless, inventive energy. Don’t be too creative with your cooking tomorrow, tried an true may be better than avantgarde.

Nov 22
Thanksgiving Day. The Sun enters Sagittarius at 8:50 in the morning and sets the mood for gregarious party times. Invite some strangers or people from faraway places. More about the Centaurs of the Zodiac next month.

Nov 24
Full Moon in Gemini, Uranus SD, Mercury square Neptune
A wild weekend ahead, especially for those born early in the mutable signs. (Pisces, Gemini, Virgo and especially Sag) With Uranus stationary you want to do your own thing, change your mind, direction or viewpoint. Jupiter is closing in on Pluto, which makes for deep insights and major philosophical exchanges. Be as clear as possible when communicating, since misunderstandings are likely when Neptune muddles the mind (Mercury).

Nov 26
Venus trine Neptune
The week starts on a friendly and cooperative note, good for romance, working together smoothly, harmonious vibes.

Nov 30
Sun trine Saturn
The month ends with a good, straight look at what is needed. So plan ahead, take responsible action. Good for business negotiations, promotions and mentoring.

To be continued.

VENUS
Welcome to another peek at the planetary picture, and a brief homage to Venus, the Goddess of art and beauty. It’s an interesting feature of the solar system that the Earth orbits right in between Venus and Mars. Venus is on the inside, Mars on the outside track. And much of peoples walk on earth involves sorting out the yin and yang of things, male and female polarities and the resulting gender dances.
As a planet Venus is the brightest one of all. Until the end of the year she is visible before sunrise in the east, the Morningstar.
The placement of Venus describes what and how you love and what you feel attracted to in others. It is connected to the romantic and idealistic side of things.
Those born under the influence of Venus are pleasant, easy to get along with and often sport a green thumb, which means they are good at growing things. Whether it’s gardens, houses, or fortunes, Venus likes money and enjoys the comfort it affords.
Venus rules Libra and imparts a keen sense of aesthetic and fair play. It also rules the earthy sign of Taurus. Both signs display a certain love of pleasure and luxury, combined with a peaceful nature that avoids conflicts and confrontations. While a Taurus may resist a conflict with patient perseverance, a Libra will be more inclined to negotiate.
Libra possesses a keen sense of justice and team spirit. Remember the Hermit like qualities of Virgo, where the mind is turned inward to analyze the self. In Libra the Hermit comes down from the mountain, in order to get involved with others. When the individuation and soul-searching process of the Hermit phase is completed, the balancing act of relationships begins. They don’t call it ‘domestic compromise’ for nothing!
The human condition implies social connections. People are bio-engineered for relationships and not really meant to live in isolation.
Love rules!

Famous Topanga Libra’s:
Julie Sugarman, Kristin Tennant, Livia Salamon, Julian Scott, Debra Silbar, Suzanne Teng, Darby Warren, Patrice Winter, Johnathan Yaney and plenty more not mentioned here. Cheers to all and happy birthday, may it be your best or most romantic year ever.

Calendar

Oct 3
Venus trines Pluto
Here is a midweek opportunity for passionate adventures. Last call for dramatic Venus in Leo, indulge!

Oct 7
Venus enters Virgo
Here the tastes and fashion sense is likely to shift toward prim and proper outfits. At last reason wins over excitement.

Oct 8
Mars sextiles Saturn, Sun trines Jupiter
The week starts with an excellent day for negotiations of any kind. Think big, be bold and focus ahead. Power talks!

Oct 9
Jupiter squares Uranus
Surprise! It’s anything can happen day. Whilst this is true for all days, this aspect ups the synchronicity-meets-opportunity factor a lot.

Oct 10
New Moon in Libra, Draconids meteor shower
Mars is in OOB (out of bounds) declination: that means moody as well as erratic behavior. If Libra is concerned with balance, during the new moon phase it’s extra delicate. Trine to Neptune: sensitive and open to inner guidance, spiritual break through experiences. Venus meets Saturn in Virgo: necessities rather than choices, reality check. A powerful time for those that have planets in the middle degrees of Air signs: Aquarius, Gemini, Libra.

Oct 11
Mercury SR (stations retrograde)
Backing from Scorpio into Libra this will have to reveal any secrets in relationships. Check the news for scandals

Oct 12
Sun trines Neptune
Good for meditation, healing, connecting with the spirit realm. Intuition is at an all time high, so trust your instincts, big time.

Oct 13
Venus conjuncts Saturn
This influence may provide a serious wakeup call, feelings of stuck-ness or sudden emotional blocks. Good for introspection, souls searching.

Oct 16
Venus sextiles Mars, Mercury sextiles Venus
The beginning of a major string of sextiles. Likely to open new doors, the aspects support easy going interactions, deep exchanges and personal breakthroughs.

Oct 17
Mercury trines Mars
Get the message out, be courageous and bold about it. There is no need for mincing words.

Oct 19
Mercury sextiles Saturn
An excellent day for negotiations and meetings. Also good for planning ahead, budgeting and analytical projects.

Oct 20
Sun sextiles Pluto
A fine weekend for testing your limits and boundaries. Whether they are physical, emotional or imaginary: power rules!

Oct 23
Sun conjunct Mercury, Mercury Rx enters Libra, Sun enters Scorpio
A meeting on the fence, also called a collision course aspect. Both planets change signs going in opposite directions. Not a great day for shopping, especially for clothes or communications equipment. You’ll be indecisive at first, and change your mind on things later.

Oct 25
Full Moon in Scorpio, Venus opposes Uranus
This promises a reckless party weekend. Costume trends will lean toward the futuristic, new and unusual - rather than the tried and true.

Oct 26
Mercury sextiles Pluto
This inclines to revelatory truth talking, also good for reading, writing and making inquiries.

Oct 29
Venus squares Jupiter
Can’t get away with over indulgences, so some folks will need to recover from weekend hangovers. Sun sextiles Saturn, Jupiter sextiles Neptune: this stirs the imagination and creative urges. Good for visual arts, pictures and images.

Oct 31
Neptune SD
It’s Halloween night, and Neptune’s station can either make foggy weather, or cloud foggy minds. So pay attention to the road, trust your instincts and expect to see a few ghosts and aliens.

<div>Greetings from the sun-baked hills of Topanga Canyon, here’s another take on what’s happening in the sky these days, take a look.

MERCURY
The planet Mercury, orbits in close proximity to the Sun. It has an affinity for the signs of Virgo and Gemini. The position of Mercury reflects the workings of the mind and intellect. It enable communication, exchange of ideas, so people can understand each other. In classic mythology Mercury, was seen as the messenger between gods and people, the connecting link between spirit and matter. He would travel between heaven and earth, never staying long in either place. Mercury also has an affinity to healing. His symbol is the Caduceus, a staff with winged serpents, still used by doctors and in medicine. On a more unconventional note, Mercury is also the god of tricksters, thieves, and magicians of all stripes.
The sign of Virgo is in for a bit of reality check, because Saturn enters Virgo on the 2rd. With it come responsibilities, focus, determination and discipline, something Virgo folks are good at anyway. Generally there is less drama and more willingness to work together and get the job done.

Famous Topanga Virgo’s:
Francesca Forese, Sandra Bacall, Elizabeth Golden, Tanja Hunger, Lala McClave, Willow Ross, Joachim Wiesel, Eric Lynn, Lee Michaelson (born on Leo’s cusp, but leaning towards the Virgo side) Happy birthday one and all, may it be your most focused and productive year ever.

Calendar

Sep 2
Saturn enters Virgo: as above, trust your instincts and do good deeds. Mercury squares Pluto today: any secrets will be met with inquisition. So be curious, it’s a fine day for getting to the bottom of things.

Sep 3
Today Mars squares Uranus: volatile tempers and recklessness, that’s accidents waiting to happen. Lookout and leave wide margins in traffic. Venus sextiles Mars, which sparks mutual attraction between lovers. And Sun squares Jupiter, which adds to the tension and polarization of egos and opinions.

Sep 5
Mercury enters Libra:
Here the trickster planet becomes ‘fair and balanced’ minded, and conciliatory to the point of indecisiveness . Everything is negotiable, all you have to do is pay attention and negotiate. There are no wrong decisions, it’s all part of your education.

Sep 7
Pluto stations direct
Here Pluto sits conspicuously in the most powerful spot, the galactic center. Good for connecting with the unconscious, therapy and inner healing work. Some will feel inclined visit the underworld, and come back with vast revelations.

Sep 8
Venus stations direct:
Onwards and upwards, love rules! Much personal growth in relationships, but prepare for a roller coaster ride. Mars trines Neptune: lofty ideals and boldly embracing the unknown. Good for conflict resolution, making agreements and water sports.

Sep 9
Sun opposes Uranus
A restless, antsy kind of day, things going against the grain. Calm down and get as much rest as you can, as there’s a natural inclination to sensory overload.

Sep 11
Solar Eclipse / New Moon
This eclipse in opposition aspect to Uranus and provides a wake-up call. The mutable signs (Pisces, Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius) will feel driven to try something totally new and different. The Uranus aspect provides free will and interference by surprise, the universal mischief maker.
So, think outside the box and expect the unexpected. Life is infinitely stranger than fiction. The mutual reception between Neptune in Aquarius and Uranus in Pisces has been linked to unusual weather phenomenon, especially ‘sudden waters’.

Sep 13
Mercury sextile Jupiter
Good for follow through, contracts and details. Easy learning and progress in intellectual matters.

Sep 17
Sun squares Mars
Makes for extra -edgy, yang energy. Push your limits, and step up to the plate. Mercury also sextiles Venus: about as far apart as these two will get from each other. Mercury is idealistic and fair-minded in Libra, tipping his hat to Venus in Leo’s self- absorbed charm and eccentricities.

Sep 18
Mercury trine Neptune
This amplifies the dreamy-ness factor, good for thinking in pictures, visual and visionary art. Also inclined to deep conversations with friends.

Sep 19
Sun square Pluto
Today you may be asked to take a stance. Be assertive with your values, integrity is called for.

Sep 21
A big-deal day for relationships.
Mars opposes Pluto: hell bend on adventure and willing to jump right into the deep end. And Venus opposes Neptune: floating by on cloud nine. Look out for illusions and the price to pay: disillusionment.

Sep 23
Sun enters Libra, Fall Equinox,
The day of equilibrium, about to gradually enter the dark season. As the nights grow longer the yin element comes forward, more quiet, sacred, introspective times. More about the charming sign of Libra in the next issue.

Sep 24
Mercury sextile Pluto, here it’s about the hairy underbelly of truth seeking and truth talking. Not an easy topic, make sure you get your words out.

Sep 26
Full Moon in Aries / Harvest Moon
A feisty and emotional time, made more so by a grand cross aspect between Sun/Moon and Mars/Pluto. Mercury also trines Mars, which add to the dynamic tension. All planets involved here are in Fire and Air signs, the masculine element, so it’s likely that sparks will fly in all directions.

Sep 27
Mercury enters Scorpio
Changes in attitude towards a more inquisitive mode. Digging for deep insights into life, the universe and everything, especially human nature and what makes it tick.

Sep 28
Mars enters Cancer, another planetary shift into the more emotional, watery element. Mars is in it’s fall here, feeling defensive, introverted and homebound. Good for home improvements, soul searching and family gatherings.

Sep 30
Mercury sextiles Saturn
A fine day to take care of facts and figures. Good for linear thinking and math projects.

To be continued

<div>Remember that song: “Summertime, and the living is easy…” Well, maybe it’s not that easy these days, especially during the middle of the month. The New Moon brings a big, fiery line-up in the proud sign of Leo, and the fixed (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio &amp; Aquarius), and Fire signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) are going to feel it most.
August is often the hottest, most unabashed and blatant part of summer, where the kids get into all kinds of mischief, and the grown-ups are ready for a well deserved break. Get your time-out while you can this summer, keep your feet on the ground or in a cool tub of water, and read on for an update on the current planetary picture.
Leo’s are the most charismatic people, often regarded as the kings and queens of the Zodiac are born at this time, so let’s celebrate them.

The month starts on an optimistic, open minded note. It’s easy to tap peoples generosity and high spirits, good for business.

Aug 3
Mercury sextile Mars
Productivity and strategy, constructive problem solving. The Moon is in Aries and makes a grand Fire trine: much incentive to action, so have at it, get carried away.

Aug 4
Mercury enters Leo
A shift towards clear priorities, no more beating around the bush. The next two weeks will encourage you to make really bold statements. Say it as it is.

Aug 6

Jupiter SD (stations, going direct) inclined to make the best of things, so be adventuresome. And Mars enters Gemini, two months of diversification and experiments, so try something totally different.

Aug 7
Venus Rx square Mars
This may throw a kink into the gender dances, and bring up any hidden conflicts in relations between the self and others. Both planets are at 1* of mutable signs, so adapt, compromise and start over if needed. You may feel edgy and impatient, inclined to rash decisions and throwing the towel type actions. When in doubt remember: it’s a transit, it will pass.

Aug 19
Mercury enters Virgo, Sun trine Pluto
A gentle shift towards mutability, more cooperation, less gridlock. Perspective changes towards a look at the big picture, the quest for meaningful service.

Aug 21
Sun conjunct Saturn
Today everything feels heavy and serious. Put your best foot forward with discipline, perseverance and take whatever happens with a grain of salt.

Aug 23
Mars opposes Jupiter, an extra macho aspect that can make you more competitive and blustery. The Sun enters Virgo, which brings a sense of reconciliation, it’s a time of harvesting the fruits of your labors or deeds. The Moon is OOB (out of bounds) again, see Aug 9.

Aug 24
Mercury square Jupiter
There may be tension but it’s a fine day to focus on what’s needed: communicate clearly and get your message across.

Aug 25
Mercury square Mars makes for volatile tempers and wild card inventions. Also Venus opposes Neptune today: your physical, emotional and financial needs may make themselves known.

Aug 28
Lunar Eclipse, Full Moon in Pisces, Mercury opposes Uranus
A highly charged, emotional Moon, if you happen to wake up in the early morning hours, it peaks at 3:35 am, so during the early morning hours the Moon will be barely visible as it travels in the shadow of the earth.

A Slice of Heaven - July 2007

<div>CANCER &amp; THE MOON
The Moon is not actually a planet, but rather a satellite of the Earth. It’s orbit takes about 29 days, which means it spends about 2 and a half days in each sign. Optically the Moon appears about the same size as the Sun, although it’s much closer and smaller. Moonlight is a reflection of the Sun's light, a mirror of it. The continuous cyclical changes of Sun and Moon you can be easily observed in nature. The Fullmoon rises around sunset as a shining bright disk that illuminates the night. For the next 2 weeks it becomes gradually smaller, as the Moon rises later and later. At the time of the Newmoon the sliver seems to have disappeared completely. This is just an optical illusion, as it’s traveling close to the Sun, barely visible against the daylight sky.
The Moon rules all the feminine aspects of nature, whereas the Sun in connected to the masculine. The ebb and flow of the lunar tides can have a powerful effect on your moods and everyday interactions. During the Fullmoon phase energy culminates, feelings and passions run high. It is a time to celebrate, gather and connect with others. As the Fullmoon brightens the nights you are tempted to stay up, go out into nature, or drum all night with friends. Avoid scheduling any surgery because there is more tendency for swelling or bleeding.
The Newmoon phase is a time of making new beginnings. The energy is low and introverted. You are inclined to go inward, stay home and ponder things. During the waxing phase of the Moon, that’s from Newmoon to Fullmoon it is best to focus on achieving, growing or creating things. During the waning phase from Fullmoon to Newmoon is best used to eliminate or let go of things, undo your burdens and regenerate.

“I am the star that rises from the sea-
The twilight sea.
I bring men dreams that rule their destiny.
I bring the dream-tides to the souls of men;
The tides that ebb and flow and ebb again-
These are my secret, these belong to me.” Dion Fortune, The Sea Priestess

Famous Topanga Cancer:

Calendar

Jul 31

Time to take responsibility, or pay the price for your impulsiveness. What you give is what you get. Avoid confrontations with block headedness (Mars in Taurus), or imperial conservatives (Saturn in Leo).

CARROTS, NOT JUST FOR BUNNIES

<div>“I never worry about diets. The only carrots that interest me are the number you get in a diamond.” Mae West

The carrot would be sitting right next to the potatoes, if there was a popularity contest for root veggies. This crunchy contender is available year round, and it’s natural sweetness is best when fresh in summer and fall. Since the 50ties or so carrot sticks and dips are a staple finger food at parties. Carrots are a versatile addition to salads and stews. They can be mashed, roasted, steamed and best of all juiced. The juice is sweet and packed with vitamins and minerals, a great support for the immune system and liver function.

HISTORY
Carrots have a long history of use as an aphrodisiac. In medieval times women ate carrot seeds to boost their fertility. And dished up carrots as a cure for lagging lust or impotence. Of course that was then and this is now, yet it could not hurt to try some… The seeds and leaves were also used for medicinal purposes, here’s a quote from Nicholas Culpepper’s Herbal, first published in 1649:
“The seed helps the colic, the stone in the kidneys and the rising of the mother. Taken in wine, or boiled in wine the seeds help conception. Applied with honey the leaves cleanse running sores or ulcers.”
The Chinese consider carrots a diuretic, digestive and spleen tonic food. Regular consumption prevents night blindness. It’s good for the stomach and liver, strengthens the heart and is used in the treatment of energy deficiency, high blood pressure and inflammation.

WHERE TO FIND THEN, WHAT TO LOOK FOR
The best carrots are organic, and freshest from the Farmer’s Market. Look for bright orange, firm roots with greens attached. The greens can be added to vegetable stocks or fed to your neighborhood bunnies or compost pile. The roots can be used as is, cut into sticks for dipping, shredded for salads, cut into slices or diagonals for side dishes and stews. Carrot juice is best fresh pressed, it will loose it’s powerful enzymes rapidly through storage or pasteurization. Look for the freshest brands possible or DIY.
Especially when there are kids around you may consider “some veggies are better than no veggies at all!” So ready-packed carrot sticks are a healthy option for snacks and finger foods.

MEDICINAL USE
Carrots contain powerful antioxidants and carotenoids, a pigment found orange colored produce like apricots, melons, citrus, sweet potatoes and squash. It’s helps the body absorb Vitamin A, which is good for the eyesight and healthy skin functions. Fresh carrot juice has been used to support the liver during cancer treatments, it is anti-inflammatory and diuretic in nature,
Herbalist Hanna Kroeger places grated carrots between two layers of cotton cloth and applies it to cold sores. She also recommends fasting on nothing but cooked carrots for seven days as a special diet for gastric ulcer. (Heal your Life with Home Remedies and Herbs)
Beta carotene has been the focus of more than 30 studies done by the pharmaceutical company Hoffman-La Roche and Harvard University. They determined that is helps to prevents some serious trouble such as cancer, heart disease, cataracts and strokes.
Carrot sticks can also provide oral gratification for those that are weaning off cigarettes.

CULINARY USE
The versatile carrot appears year round in many favorite foods. They can baked into cakes, mashed or roasted in winter, juiced and mixed with greens in summer and there are many other options in between. Try some of these tasty recipes:

APPLE, CARROT, RAISIN SALAD
1 or 2 carrots, peeled and shredded
1 apple, peeled and shredded
Juice from half a lemon
1 handful of walnuts, chopped
1 handful of raisins
1 teaspoon of honey
Combine all ingredients, let them sit to marinate in the fridge for about an hour and enjoy!

GLAZED CARROTS (side dish)
1 bunch of carrots, peeled and cut unto uniform shapes, about 1” long
2 tbls. Of Butter
Half a cup of water
A pinch of salt
1 tsp. of sugar or honey
Combine carrots and butter in a saucepan over medium heat, stir for a few minutes until fragrant. Add the other ingredients stir, cover and bring to a boil. Turn the heat down and simmer on low for about 20 minutes, or until carrots are tender. Stir occasionally and serve as a side dish with pasta, meat dishes or BBQ.

CARROT APHRODISIAC
1 bunch of carrots, peeled &amp; sliced into coin shaped pieces
1 tsp of honey
1 tsp of rosewater (optional)
Half a cup of walnuts or almonds, chopped
Cover the carrots with water and boil for 10 to 15 minutes in water, until soft, but not mushy. Drain, save the broth for another use. Dress with a bit of honey and/or rosewater. Sprinkle chopped walnuts or almonds on top. Cheers!

CARROTS &amp; HUMMUS DIP
1 bunch of carrots, cut into 3” sticks
1 can of garbanzo beans,
2 tbsp of tahini (sesame butter)
Juice of half a lemon
1 clove of garlic, chopped
Salt &amp; cayenne to taste
Olive oil for dripping on top
Drain the beans, reserving the liquid. Place all ingredients besides the carrots in a blender, with about half a cup of the reserved liquid, blend until smooth. Taste to see if more lemon juice or salt is needed. Transfer into a serving dish, sprinkle cayenne and a bit of olive oil on top. Serve with the carrot sticks for a healthy, yummy snack.

To be continued.

A Slice of Heaven - June 2007

<div>MERCURY - THE MESSENGER OF THE GODS
By Lola Babalon
In Greek mythology Mercury was known as the winged Messenger of the Gods, the intermediary between heaven and earth, the physical and metaphysical realms. In Astrology the planet Mercury represents the mind as a connecting link between spirit and matter.
Everybody has Mercury somewhere in their chart, but some people are definitely more mercurial than others. The position of Mercury reflects the state of ones mind and intellect, the ability to communicate clearly. Under the influence of Mercury people are inclined to talk a lot, especially while wildly gesticulating. They may change their mind, focus or direction frequently, sometimes out of the blue or in mid sentence. They’re curious, easily distracted, ambidextrous, light footed and make great writers, runners, educators or tennis players.
Mercury has a special affinity to the signs of Gemini and Virgo. It is also the planet of healers, as symbolized by the Caduceus, the staff of entwined serpents. Doctors widely use this symbol, which reflects on the mercurial nature of medicine. The healing nature of Mercury is manifest in the sign of Virgo, whereas the happy-go-lucky Jack ’n’ Jill of all trades are likely among the Gemini.
Because of it’s multi-faceted nature Mercury has a reputation as the god of tricksters, thieves, and magicians of all stripes. Historic paintings often show Mercury as a hermaphrodite, or as androgynous, somewhere in-between genders.

A few words about retrogrades: The planets move in somewhat elliptical cycles, when observed from the earth against the background of the zodiac. Planetary retrogrades are an optical illusion, yet they tend to manifests as a backwards influence. Because of Mercury’s close proximity to the Sun it goes into retrograde motion more frequently than other planets, about three times per year, for about three weeks each.
This month you can experience the influence of Mercury’s station and retrograde period. After the 16th of June this will be felt by the cardinal (Capricorn, Aries, Libra ) and Water signs (Pisces, Cancer &amp; Scorpio). More on this in the calendar section.

<div>Sundaymorning finds me hooking up my second, used computer to the web, because my first, really used computer is giving me lots of trouble, maybe has a virus. So, now I'm online checking mail, news and all the craziness, crazy mess that is life these days. Outside it's sunny and clear, the early morning sun catchers throw rainbow sparks into the room.
A young, happy looking coyote just raided my compostpile, while my two cats Mimi and Victor are in full alert mode, keeping their little patooties out of the way.
Much love to all you guys and gals here, this tribal thing has been a big inspiration for me, and widened my horizons big-time. Like someone once said: why would I want to learn anything, if it doesn't change me?
many blessings
