And the word is....

...arthritis. Yep, I said the A word.

So on the advice of many friends and loved ones, I found another doctor...an orthopedic doctor...and I saw him. Rather young, not unattractive fellow. Seemed to know his way around a bedpan. Asked me more than a few questions, wiggled my feet around and proked and prodded a bit.

After all the medical manipulations, he says to me, "Well, it's probably just arthritis but I can't be sure until we get some x-rays to rule some things out..."

Just arthritis. He said some other stuff after that but my brain got stuck on 'just arthritis'. Might as well have said, just dementia or elephantitis... But the gist of it is, it's likely that whatever the problem with my ankles is, it's not going away any time soon if at all. Basically, he says it's a quality of life thing. It all depends on what I want to put up with and how much pain I'm willing to accept.

Great. Just flippin' lovely. Excuse me while I go cry my ass off to sleep.

Ok, my secret is out. I might as well admit it. Probably best for us all if I do.

So here it is.

Hi, my name is Lori and I have Obsessive Compulsive Tribal Style Belly Dance Syndrome.

The truth of my situation was revealed to me by a long time acquaintance in Washington State. Bless her heart she appeared to me in an email and rather bluntly pointed out that I am obsessed after reading a rather lengthy email from me comparing and contrasting American cabaret, Tribal as I know it, and Tribal fusion.

Moi???? Me, who makes new costumes for no reason. Me, who has so many different kinds of make-up in my case yet I don't wear make-up on a daily basis. Me, who has saved and worn her favorite bindi to countless performances and shows. Me, who spends hour upon hour on Tribe and Google learning the latest and scouring the internet for the next greatest costuming idea.

Ya think????

Man, I'm sick of snow. All it ever does is snow. And cold. I'm sick of cold. It's official that I'm sick of winter and the cold and the snow. Last weekend, I was overjoyed to see no fewer than one dozen robins in my backyard. This weekend they are undoubtedly off somewhere freezing whatever passes for their butts off. They say that there never was a winter that wasn't followed by a spring but this may be the year folks.

At least I have dancing and costuming to keep me busy. And my house of course. My little house on the stinkin' cold, snowy prairie. GAH!

Fortunately, I have a huge Mastiff to keep me warm. She's a moose and I love every little bit of her. Recently we had to take her in to have a growth removed from her tail. I asked the vet to remove some of the goofy as she seems to be excessively goofy, but he said that the goofy was inoperable and possibly terminal. *sigh* But her tail is healing nicely and she is back to wagging full speed thank goodness.

So now I'm off to daydream about workshops and shopping in Colorado with my sista's. Dreaming of spring in Evergreen...

So here I am in my new (ancient) home sitting at my own computer, uncomfortable though that may be, and I've a few thoughts to share on this Thanksgiving day.

1. I have a lot to be thankful for and while I'm not going to go into detail or bore you with a list, suffice it to say I'm thankful.

2. I've learned a lot in the last few months about myself and the world. The most important thing I've learned is that if you have a map, you're going to be ok. Oh, and also that Anubis is not a joke.

3. Colorado is amazing, but not as amazing as the ladies I spent time with last weekend. We rocked the house!

4. JT is especially amazing and she has wonderful taste in clothes, sandwiches, bottled water and hats. Rock on Soul Sister.

In the last 2 weekends, I have met more dancers and drummers than I knew existed.

Tribal Dreams was a hoot and John Compton just about killed me in his folkloric class. Samantha Riggs tried to finish me off in her Bollywood class. But I had so much fun that I didn't care about the aches and pains. I was fortunate enough to be able to share an evening meal with both John and Sam on friday night. They are very interesting people even if they like their steaks raw or nearly so. Who would have guessed they'd never heard of Omaha Beef?

The workshop in Evergreen CO was also a hoot. We spent 2 days in CO performing and wandering around. My travelling companions and I spent about an hour driving up and down Evergreen Parkway looking for the hotel. But we got to see some really cool things along the way and we were just blown away by the mountains and scenery. The workshops were fun too. Dancing with Paulette and Michele was fun. But Evergreen was not just about the workshop for me. It was also about SHOPPING. I spent way too much cash....especially at Marrakech. Oy.

But in the end, I'm thankful to be back in my own little house with my hubby and my dog. Traveling is great but there's noplace like home.
