The Blog I Never Use.

Yome no mo'

I have not written,... well, at all ...about my project/home/paradise/challenge in the forest, that we have called "Elsewhere," on this blog.

But without going into to much detail, the project had a major set back on Thanksgiving, when a large tree crashed through the Yurt-like structure we were building (called a "Yome") completely destroying it beyond reasonable repair.

What's worse, the Yome was on loan from Mountaine, who was gracious enough to offer it for use, temporarily, last summer when the land was initially purchased.

Mountaine was at Short Mountain on Thanksgiving, so I let him know what happened, and he was gracious enough, again, to agree to allow me to work off the cost of replacing the yome on some possible future projects he has planned for his home in North Carolina.

I was hoping to include some pictures of the damage, but I have not yet received those photos from a friend. I will upload them as soon as I can.

Let there be no doubt... homesteading is not easy. It is difficult and very challenging, and often dangerous.

For me, the most discouraging thing about this set-back is all of the time and work hours that we spent over the past two to three months working on this part of the project. Those are work hours that we can never get back. And now we are that much further behind than we were before.

I am re-examining the project from all angles now to come up with a new plan going into winter.

More soon.

Peace,
