about me
Studying Oriental Medicine. I am interested in the relevance of traditional healing arts and wisdom of many cultures to address modern and timeless problems.
Also enjoy adventuring and exploring in its many forms, as well as the joy of comfort and stability: good friends--both enduring and momentary, good work--virtuous and practical, teaching, learning and applying.

Its funny that we--or should I, if not for honesty at least for precision, say I--continually invest value and reality in objects, experiences and situations. I mean, really where did that tendency come from? Things, people, states of mind and circumstances are like the wind running through my fingers. I would close my hands to grasp it but I only find myself with empty fists clenched against space.

It's been a long time since I wrote anything here. Since my last post, I've moved into and out of Bremerton, gotten engaged, moved into Seattle proper (Magnolia), taken and left employment at Super Supplements of three locations, started going to regular sweats and NAC meetings, found a Dharma center that I love, and enrolled in the Seattle Institute of Oriental Medicine. Finances are tight and time irregular, but it is really quite astonishing to reflect on it all.

Well, I've been out here in the fine state of Washington for a little over a week now. Mountains, waters, rainforests, and a very progressively-minded metropolis that seems to coexist relatively well (for a post-industrial cityscape) with its natural surroundings.

I'm about ten or fifteen miles out of Seattle, at the foot of the mountains and surrounded by what I can only describe as "evergreen jungle." It is really beautiful out here, but the commute into Seattle isn't great, with or ... read more

I'll be moving to Seattle earlier than expected; I'm leaving on October 27th, which is a week from this Friday. If any of you Milwaukeans are interested in hanging out before then, drop me an email or call.
Amazing how even a relatively short trip can produce culture shock in the susceptible. Really makes you notice the arbitrariness of customs and habits.

Overall the trip was quite worthwhile. We spent time in Beijing, Shaolin Temple in Henan, the Wudang Mountains in Hubei, and Emei Mountain in Sichuan. Honestly, the Shaolin Temple (the first leg of our trip) was quite disappointing--there's not much left beyond the government-owned commercial complex. I certainly couldn't complain about... read more
