"Revolution's No Rat Race"

<div>
"Revolution is a mindset, a way of approaching the world. It's much more than the products of our work.. we have to do the work of destroying and creating within a context that helps us feel fulfilled and happy now instead of exhausted and burnt. The war we're waging on the outside also has a front within our own hearts and minds.. rooting out oppressive programming, deciphering and responding to our own needs. We can't "get it all done," because revolution won't ever be finished. Nature, and therefore humanity, and therefore the system of states and hierarchy, has been changing since the beginning of time.. We are here now, and we have to actualize revolution now. We have to manage the change, exploiting the cracks in the state apparatus as it settles, ages, and falls apart, while strengthening our own lives and relationships against the unfriendly decay of burnout and self-destruction. Ultimately, our relationships with other people are the framework of a new world built of hope, trust, and love. This is our strongest revolutionary tool."

~excerpt from slingshot 2005

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Revolution also begins with R!

(*some really simple suggestions from circleoflifefoundation.org*)

REDUCE - Curb Your Consumption

~Differentiate between needs and desires!

~buy/use less disposable/harmful to environment products.
if we don't buy it, they won't make it
~if we buy earthfriendly, folks may make more, thus reducing cost.

~don't buy bottled water.. use a filter, or order from a service that reuses their jugs.

~don't always buy cheap.. go for quality, it will ultimately last longer so you don't buy more right away

Put your money where yo mouth is!

shop locally.

REUSE-

~Carry your own mug EVERYWHERE (coffee shop, movies, etc.).. no more take out cups!

~Save jars, yogurt containers, etc. for leftovers, tupperware, even bring to restaurants for take-out foods.

~use cloth for cleaning (old t-shirts?) No paper towels. Carry a cloth napkin with you to restaurants. Classy!

~reuse paper notes, write on both sides, cut big ones up for small ones, use it for packing.. or best yet, use a chalkboard instead.

FACT: Americans throw away enough office paper each year to create a wall 12 feet high reaching from LA to NYC!!!

~Donate your old doodads. yep, one guy's trash is another gal's treasure!

~Get your furnishings &amp; clothes second hand.. swap with friends, shop thrift, make new things from old parts..

~use rechargable batteries..

~recycle dead auto batteries at local auto shop

~bring your own shopping bags, even veggie bags.. and buy bulk (no packaging)

~use cloth diapers **Americans throw away enough disposable diapers each year to stretch from the moon and back at least 7 times.. (where does it all go???)

~Compost - you can do this in here in the city too.. they'll give you a green bucket for your kitchen, and you dump it in the big green yard waste bin if you don't have a garden..

RECYCLE-

~Paper : recycled paper can cut our waste by 1/3 and uses less energy to produce.

*every ton of recycled paper saves almost 400 gallons of oil!

~Aluminum and Steel cans- when you recycle them, it makes 95% less air pollution than making cans from scratch

~Glass Jars and Bottles

~Plastics - these take hundreds or thousands of years to decompose.. made from gas and petroleum mostly. Production creates pollution and toxic chemicals..

*there are some plastics made from plant matter

                WALK THE WALK

          (restless? Take a litter walk.)

<div>When the storm remains distant
We are heroes of complacency
Puffed chest and swollen pride
We hate ourselves in ways
Only the deepest love could recognize

When the storm remains distant
There is no such thing as us
There is only dollar and dynamite
Gunpowder and fiery God
The churches are filled with women and children
The men pray only in case of emergency
We worship a foreign truth
And only death will stamp our passport

When the storm remains distant
There is no afterlife
Most die unborn
Most live unloved
Disappointment takes on new names and costumes
The future is stillborn and disfigured
The womb becomes an airtight safe
Darkness swallows darkness

When the storm remains distant
Nothing is as is
Songs are opiates
Sleep is the burial ground of dreams
Happiness is a lie
Sex is where love is not

When the storm remains distant
We are unreminded and dare to forget
School is a fashion show
Violence is comfort food
Family is nothing
And nothing is real

When the storm remains distant
Niggas are free to be Niggas
Niggers, Black, you name it

Anything but one thing
Everything but nothing
Even with a shitload of platinum
Wrapped around his neck
Like a southern tree gone petrified
Screw face pearly gate-mouth
Tangled nectar of the stars

When the storm remains distant
Stars are retired drug dealers nicknamed God
Rapists with pretty voices
And anyone but anyone who shines

When the storm remains distant
The sun is flawless in its magnitude
The heavens reflect breath of angels
The people bask in themselves
The storm is forgotten

When the storm is forgotten
The waters, &amp;lsquo;though they rise,
Fail to threaten
The people march backwards
from ashes to ashen,
Whiplash, car crash, Cash Money,
Some Niggas eat diamonds for breakfast
Pursue cheap labor, Enslave God

When the storm is forgotten
Poets are meteorologists
Behold, the farmers almanac
The sheep wake up and congregate
The litany begins

When the storm is forgotten
The struggle ends

May the storm never be forgotten.

<div>for anyone else who seems to be entering a period of solitude, surrender and growth... this was just sent to me by a wise sister and it (((resonates))) so here i am, telling it on the mountain...

"...love your solitude and bear with sweet-sounding lamentation the suffering it causes you. For those who are near you are far, you say, and that shows it is beginning to grow wide about you. And when what is near you is far, then your distance is already among the stars and very large; rejoice in your growth, in which you naturally can take no one with you, and be kind to those who remain behind, and be sure and calm before them and do not torment them with your doubts and do not frighten them with Your confidence or joy, which they could not understand. Seek yourself some sort of simple and loyal community with them, which need not necessarily change as you yourself become different and again different..."
