<div>I'm having knee replacement surgery next month, and I'd love to have a laptop for a few weeks - while I'm in the hospital and laid up at home - just to net surf, email and watch DVD's. is there anyone who has an old one lying around that would work for that, or do you know of any places that I can rent a laptop on a short term basis? Unfortunately I can't claim it along with the wheelchair and walker to be covered by insurance. :~D</div>

On joy, sorrow and pain

<div>A friend posted these quotes from Kahlil Gibran on her blog:

From a poem on "Joy and Sorrow".
"Your joy is your sorrow unmasked.
And the selfsame well from which your laughter rises was oftentimes filled with your tears.
And how else can it be?
The deeper that sorrow carves into your being, the more joy you can contain.
Is not the cup that holds your wine the very cup that was burned in the potter's oven?
And is not the lute that soothes your spirit, the very wood that was hollowed with knives?..."

Regarding pain:

"Your pain is the breaking of the shell that encloses your understanding.
Even as the stone of the fruit must break, that its heart may stand in the sun, so must you know pain.
And could you keep your heart in wonder at the daily miracles of your life, your pain would not seem less wondrous than your joy;
And you would accept the seasons of your heart, even as you have always accepted the seasons that pass over your fields.
And you would watch with serenity through the winters of your grief.

Much of your pain is self-chosen.
It is the bitter potion by which the physician within you heals your sick self.
Therefore trust the physician, and drink his remedy in silence and tranquillity:
For his hand, though heavy and hard, is guided by the tender hand of the Unseen,
And the cup he brings, though it burn your lips, has been fashioned of the clay which the Potter has moistened with His own sacred tears."

Yup, I'm gonna do it again on Monday, March 31st! At least I hope I'll get my turn this time....last time a certain friend of mine broke it before I got a chance! :~D

Well no, that's not really true; the inventors apparently didn't account for having to put a condom on it, so it overheated as the condom dampened the vibration.

They're still looking for volunteers, (in Seattle) so if you're interested let me know and I'll put you in touch with them!</div>

My Valentine surprise

<div>My husband surprised me on Valentine's Day with not only the usual - card, flowers and SEX! - but also with a new shower head in my bathroom! What a sweet mate I have, so good with his hands. :~D

It isn't just any shower head though. It's a hand held type. With numerous spray settings. Versatile, with many promising and attractive possibilities to explore!

Since then, I've been gradually getting acquainted with it, taking it slow, learning what it's capable of, savoring each new discovery.

It's been a warm relationship: I turn it on, it gets me wet. So far, so good. It's been nice, knowing that there's more to explore together, but no hurry. No expectations, no pressure. Well yeah, there *was* water pressure.....

But yesterday morning I decided I was ready to progress to the next level of intimacy and - taking matters into my own hands - finally let it off the hook. It felt very firm in my hands as I got VERY up close and personal with it.

Hot. Wet. Pulsing, sending delicious sensations streaming up and down my body.

It took a few adjustments for both of us to get the right rhythm going, but when we did - well I believe I heard someone holler, Oh Gawd, let us spray! After a nice long buildup and amazingly steamy climax, we both cooled off quite quickly. I had a little trouble walking steadily for awhile, feeling a bit jealous because while I had to regain my composure and get dressed for work, it could just remain limp and hang around all day.

The nice thing about this relationship? I'm totally in control. I always know it'll be there, waiting for me, ready to respond to whatever I need, even when all we do is shower together. But there's always the possibility of another hot quickie, and that puts a smile on my face every morning. Ah, NRE......

Thanks for listening to my story - I just had to finally come clean! :~D</div>

Going to Tukwila

<a href="http://people.tribe.net/lunasmiles/blog/c97a92fd-ef68-4929-b843-2b854d997e71"> <img class=" picThumb" src="http://images.tribe.net/tribe/upload/photo/6ed/20f/6ed20f82-52c5-4fbf-a0f4-f559035ebf0f.thumb" width="65" height="48" alt="" />
    </a>
<div>Does anyone remember that phrase? It's from an old Seattle Times article about a couple's sexploits in a Tukwila, WA hotel, thus coining the local humorous euphemism for sex.

We had decided to get away from the house for the weekend, away from all distractions of everyday life: the chores demanding of our time, emails, TV, neighbor's dog barking - and to have some privacy from the 2 adult children occupying our house.

It didn't need to be anything fancy, in fact we were looking for cheap. And what more appropriate place thanTukwila? So, there we were at the Days Inn, wondering in trepidation about what we might encounter. Moldy bathroom? Stained sheets? Loud screaming sex from next door? No wait - that would be us....... :~D

Well, what a surprise to find out that not only was the room pretty decent, but apparently we'd been assigned the DELUXE KING room, complete with a Safari theme! I kid you not! Mostly a zebra motif! I mean, the whole nine yards - zebra switch plates, zebra striped blanket, zebra wall hangings, zebra sconces and knickknacks, but best of all, there was.........a LIFE SIZE zebra head hanging on the wall!

OK, well you didn't think I'd pass up a chance to play around with THAT, did you? (See my photos......) Although I did have to cover him up when we were in bed, because it was too creepy having him watching us from his perch on the wall above our heads.

Overall, the ambience did add a bit of humor to the wild monkey sex....I couldn't help but laugh at the thought of what creative fun some of my friends would have if they'd been there!

So, if you're looking for a quick, cheap, amusing getaway, check out Room 215 at the Tukwila, WA Days Inn - overlooking the (seasonal) pool, right next to the freeway, handy to casinos, bars, Boeing field, shopping mall wasteland, and a friendly trucker's cafe (formerly a Denny's) next door!

Update: I just found out that they also have a LION room! And one more they're still working on - theme tbd! Yay!

Update again: A friend just forwarded the original article:

A few years ago? It started almost 18 years ago to the date with an Eric Lacitis column where Lacitis coined the phrase as a euphemism for sexual intercourse....and no, it wasn't about a Motel...they were visiting (mostly) at home....

The article led to many more throughout the years and even a national TV appearance for the subjects that spawned the phrase: Rex &amp; Debbie.

Heres the original article:

Living: Tuesday, January 30, 1990
Lovely Place -- This Happy Couple Really Enjoys Visiting Tukwila
Erik Lacitis

Debby woke up to find this note from her husband. It said, ``Good morning my sweet love!! I will be thinking about you all day!! I love you!!!!!!! All my love, Rex.''

Maybe not great literary stuff. Still, I'd guess many of you wives and girlfriends out there wouldn't mind such a note with your coffee.

So today's column is really about romance, and keeping the flame alive, although for weeks I had qualms about writing it.

That's because . . . well, let's begin at the beginning. In all my years of writing a column, I had never received such a phone call.

Debby Allen, 29, a technician at Seattle Center, phoned in December about another column I wrote, which quoted a national marketing expert as saying that the average American woman gained six pounds last year. In these less casual, more stressful times, food was substituting for sex.

A week later Debby, a newlywed of nearly a year, called. ``I'd like to disagree with that. I haven't gained any weight,'' she said. ``But then I'm getting plenty of sex with my husband. We started keeping track in the middle of April. On New Year's Eve we're hoping to go for 500 times.''

I'll save you the time. I've got a calculator right here. It averages out to 1.83 times a day. Debby said that in practice, they - if you don't mind, from now on we'll use the term ``visiting Tukwila'' - the couple sometimes visited Tukwila six times in one day.

Neither Debby nor Rex, 37, a city engineering inspector, minded having their name in the paper. As Debby said, ``There are worse things we could do.''

The weeks went by. On a regular basis, Debby cheerfully called with updates. I know that visiting Tukwila can be talked about in offensive terms.

That wasn't the case with Debby and Rex. They simply were innocently happy about all these visits to Tukwila. On New Year's Eve, the couple reached their 500 goal. This year, their goal is 750.

I asked to meet them. I just wanted to see what they looked like. Debby and Rex are your everyday, average couple in appearance.

They brought along a calendar. On each day, they had notched how many times they had visited Tukwila along with codes they said they'd rather keep private. On only a couple days were there no notches.

It wasn't visiting Tukwila that we spent much time talking about, however. I also asked them to give tips to all you couples with lackluster night lives.

You know what I'm talking about, Mr. and Ms. Frenzied Professional.

Work, work, work. Come home. Order takeout. Watch TV. Lot of fun, uh? You'd be ecstatic if you visited Tukwila one-tenth as much as Debby and Rex.

Here is what the couple told me about their Tukwila secrets, which even by newlywed standards are astounding. However corny it might sound, they show each other they still care.

They left with me a bundle of daily notes they leave each other:

``I love everything about you. I love your eyes. I love the way you listen to me. I love it when you pretend not to notice when I do something dumb.''

Or: ``I'm glad you're home, my gorgeous husband.'' ``Welcome - come in - take your clothes off and warm up on me. . . . Thank you for dinner. Thank you for marrying me. Thank you for loving me.''

They show their care in other ways, too. When Rex has worked late, Debby has brought down a homemade dinner and flowers for him. When Debby has been having a tough day at work, Rex has shown up with Belgian waffles to cheer her up.

They set each Thursday night aside to go out to dinner or someplace special. They hardly watch TV, preferring instead to be with each other.

I'll bet you didn't think a column about doing it 500 times would mention sex so little.

But since you wondered: When they visit Tukwila six times - usually on weekends - how do they feel the next morning?

``You're tired,'' Debby said, ``but not like after a long day at work. It's a pleasant tired. The whole world has a soft, fuzzy focus. Know what I'm talking about?''

Visiting Tukwila six times? I think lots of us wish we knew what you're talking about, Debby.

In which a friend of mine muses about relationship..........

<div>I copied this verbatim from a Live Journal friend:

Something I started thinking about based on some ideas raised by a few of my favorite Sci-fi authors, again while in one of my education philosophy courses and only just recently fleshed out more completely. The thought started out something like this.

"Individuals can never truly 'know' one another because we cannot get into one another's heads. It would take true and full telepathy, a hive-mind if you will for one entity to ever truly 'know' another, but then in the hive-mind two or twenty join to become an entirely new entity, thus creating a sort of paradox. We still end up not ever truly 'knowing' the 'other'. So in the end we are and have always been alone, in the most pure sense of that word.

The expansion on this thought came during graduate school:

We, each of us, are the sum of nature plus nurture. Everything we taste, hear, see, feel, learn, think and know is filtered through our cultural collateral, or in other words we only ever percieve and perception is always colored by our experiences, culture, and emotions.
Take the word Cunt as an example. I hear that word and feel empowered, someone else hears it and feels revulsion. Both of us are right. Yet both of us have just experienced completely different words.

And now after reading a profile on OK Cupid, I distilled it to this:

"The me I know, is not the same me you know. Nor is the you I know really you either. The you I know is a construct in my head. I make and remake it based on information I get from what you say, do, wear, read, etc and how I perceive those pieces of information through the filter of my own experiences and thoughts.

Sometimes the you in my head is very close to the you that exists independently of either of us. At other times the you in my head couldn't be less you if you were someone else.

Our relationship only works because both of us like the constructed versions of each other as well as the person we reflect back to each other.

Or in other words, that you enjoy the construct you have of me in your head pleases me. And you also like how I respond to the construct of you I have in my head. And this is how each of us makes a better person of the other. The obverse is true of those we hate, hence bigotry in its many hideous forms.</div>

<div>I'm finally sick of looking at all the ugly stains on my beige carpet, and with company coming later this month, I'm motived to get it done ASAP!

Anyone have any experience with carpet cleaning, either professional services or the kind you rent for a day? I really only need it for one room, so I'd like to find the most cost-effective and yet least physically strenuous way to do it.

thanks!</div>
