Luna has changed how I think about Texas. That's somethin'. My creative partner in crime and my fuel for new obstacles (the computer). My dear friend in life and dance. She's a little bit of sushi and a lot of home cookin'. Buttermilk biscuits to be exact. I hope I know her when she's old and tired and has time to sit and chat.

i'm the luckiest guy for having known luna since she was... hmmm.... 18? Since before she went on her High School trip to Europe. Since she had a crush on Hemmingway and always wrote poems about wine and gardens.
Through every change, through every move, through every reincarnation, this beautiful lady .... man... she's something... she always shows you beauty in the funny things that fall between the cracks: the fossils that you walk over every day thinking they're just another rock. I could better describe Luna with words more poetic, like her own...! However, here are mine...
Everytime I have the pleasure of seeing this rosey cheeked talent, she is smiling... smiling BIG, smiling from deep inside! I wish I could maintain the steady flow of happiness, radiance as she seems to. Whether on stage while executing amazing technique or wandering about... I can count on that smile!!! Luna and I have known each other for ages. At least that's what it seems like. She is an inspirational and passionate dancer, writer, singer and poet... a force of nature. Come and watch her dance, you will see and feel what I cannot put into words. Read her stories, listen to her voice, she is a true artist. And oh yes.... she loooves Sushi, can't get enough of it, in fact, I have never seen anyone put away more Sushi in one sitting than this girl. Bright orange blossom blessings, Carissima.

I know you may not have drawn something since 6th grade art class. I know it is a bit frightening to draw something from your heart. But I promise, it will be fun. Take a sheet of paper out of your printer tray and find a pen (or a pencil or a crayon or a calligraphy brush or a can of spray paint or whatever you want) and create a little pterodactyl. Then send it to my email address (pterobones@gmail.com) and I will publish it in the January Ptero Heart gallery.

It starts with my foundation in totem animals. Animals whose natural characteristics and mythologies I draw symbolically into myself to build my own strength of character. If you know me or have ever read any of my writing you’ve recognized the part in my heart played by the seahorse and the llama and the raccoon and the owl and the coyote and the shark and the otter and the bat and the snake and the longhorn cow...and of course, the pterodactyl. My ptero totem is about my emotional body. It is about the dramatic rise and fall of the bare bones of feelings. Darkness against lightness. It is about suicide or art. It is about using creations that capture the image of the heart, and using them as the membranes for wings, for feathers, to soar—rather than plummeting to a tragic death too fast and unfulfilled. I've decided to publish a journal about that which inspires me to soar. It will be about adventure, fascination, and the art that results from living life on this planet as vibrantly as can be mustered. Each month I will feature an artist whose work has inspired the pterodactyl in my heart. I hope you will follow me on this adventure.
