i am a woman of the drum. been playing hte drum for a while (more than 20 years) so i am one of the ones who helped to open the door to women playing the drums.
i have been called by the spirits from a very early age and have always been "different". in the last decade i have learned to love my weird and wild side and turn my challenges into my assets.
looked for teachers to help me define and deepen these dreamscapes of ritual and alternate reality, but found few. seems like the spirits wanted to be the ones who educated me. now that i am closer to 50 that to 40, i am finding that i am being pushed to offer what i have learned.
i live in Maryland, sponsor a drum and dance called SoulFire Inside in DC one a month from Sept to June. During the summer months, i sponsor all night fire circles, and travel to support my friends who are also sponsoring all night events. i instigated the CoSM Full Moon Drum and Dance, and supported it monthly for 3.5 years. Now i go four times a year and support the local NYC crew to carry it on.
choose to step back from CoSM because i am preparing to move to Baltimore and hope to find a building that can accommodate large studio space, a home and a community arts and music space and the grandma's are telling me to step up and teach and to work more with the subtler sounds and rhythms.
i am happiest when i am in a crew of folks who co-create and support each others dreams.
i am recording some new music and perform with a crew called the Rhythm Shamans. we do ritual performances, that rock the house and open portals of possibility, harmony, healing and gratitude.
