I am an open, warm, sociable Irishman, born in Dublin. I have been here in the US for 12 years, after spending 20 years in the UK. I am a musician/singer and non-profit slave living in the Bay Area. In years past I traveled and lived in Europe but now hoping to travel to Asia. Every week I perform somewhere, play in a number of bands and tour occasionally. It plays havoc with my day job. Music is a vital part of my life, but my professional background is in public health and the job that pays the rent is working in a family support agency, which I love. I live in an artist garret near UCB, but am happily solvent and healthy.

I like to think I am adventuresome, fun, loving, sane, low maintenance, social and outgoing with a shy streak. I prefer one-on-one connections to socializing in larger groups, which brings out my intrinsic shy side, but I am no nerd. In social settings, I am much more comfortable with women than with men, know nothing about football/baseball, but can talk religion, relationships, music and politics well into the wee hours. I have a lot of energy, live three lives at once and will keep you on your toes.

I have a light heart, like to laugh and love a good time. Irreverent and outspoken at times, I regard myself as honest, creative, warm, compassionate, green and politically progressive. I can dress up and dress down and love costuming. Although I don't own a TV, I love the BBC and am pretty much addicted to public radio. I like to think I am an emotional risk taker, am deeply affectionate, ethical and loyal, whilst acknowledging that I am a work in progress, but I know what I have to do. I am dad to two lovely daughters, one of whom sometimes lives with me.

I like dive bars, those odd places where the crowd is diverse and the music is eclectic. Berkeley's Starry Plough is my local pub for Irish music and I dance at The Ashkenaz and love Oakland's Serenader. A hopeless optimist recovering slowly from deep despair about what has happened in this country, I believe in the human race and in trying to save the planet in my own quiet way.

I am not specifically athletic (no snowboarding, diving, paragliding, weeks backpacking in the wilderness, etc) but love to ride my bike, walk in the hills and I feel pretty fit and working on losing those unwanted pounds. Being an ovo-lacto-pescetarian-vegi-sexual helps.

I am confident in myself, present with my friends, close to my family, and I deeply value my work. I have a sensual and erotic edge, and continue to push my own boundaries. I have a great capacity and desire for romance and intimacy, and I value integrity, friendship, good communication, and personal growth. I offer trust and permissions and compersion in life and love and passion, support and courage in adversity, fun and joy in living, and boundless creativity.

Cliché though it is, happily, life remains an adventure for me...
