about me
I fled LA (the Valley, can you blame me?) at 19 years old and moved to Amsterdam with my Dutch ex-girlfriend. Learned Dutch, worked, traveled, partied, went to college (ultimately, a master's in Latin America Studies). Mostly worked as a bartender, waiter, Dutch and Spanish language translator. Moved back to LA in 2001 to go to USC Annenberg School for journalism. Worked as a newspaper reporter (LA Business Journal, some freelancing) and now I work as a communications director (ie propagandist) for a (good) politician.

The Obama election was amazing and historic in so many ways. One way in particular was the way in which community organizing was married with new-technology networking, such as online contributions, email, twitter, facebook, myspace, youtube, cellphone texting, blackberries, etc. etc. etc.
These virtual networks of course existed already, but they were always used for very fragmented purposes - making friends, discussing issues, finding jobs, etc. They lacked unifying, large scale purpose...
